Bearings and power transmission is the group of mechanical parts that support rotating shafts and transmit torque, from a pillow block on a conveyor to a helical gearbox on a crusher and the mechanical seal on a pump. On ListGCC it is one family within industrial equipment and MRO for the UAE. Buyers are maintenance and reliability teams at utilities, district cooling plants, refineries, cement, steel and aluminium plants, ports and food factories, and most of what they buy is replacement parts with a known part number.

These parts are rarely bought alone. Bearings and seals usually go into centrifugal pumps and motors, couplings join motors to compressors and blowers, and every one of them depends on the oil and grease supplied by lubrication and maintenance suppliers.
Most early bearing and gearbox failures on UAE sites come from contamination, lubrication and heat rather than from overload. Fine sand gets past poor seals, summer heat thins oil and ages grease and rubber, and humid coastal air brings water into housings that breathe as they cool.
ISO 281 defines the basic rating life of a rolling bearing at 90% reliability and a modified rating life that adjusts for reliability, lubrication and contamination. It also states that it does not cover wear, corrosion or electrical erosion. In other words, a catalogue life calculation assumes clean, well-lubricated running; on a dusty UAE conveyor or a cooling tower fan near the coast, the sealing arrangement decides whether that life is reached. Ask for sealed or shielded bearings, labyrinth or taconite seals on housings, and relubrication intervals adjusted for dust.
A gearbox in direct sun on a UAE summer afternoon can run hotter than its thermal rating allows. Give the gearbox supplier the maximum site ambient and whether the unit is shaded, and ask for the thermal rating, the oil grade and any cooling fan or oil cooler. Rubber V-belts, timing belts and elastomer seals all have temperature limits; check them against conditions inside fan housings and plant rooms, not just outdoors.
Pumps on seawater intakes, desalination and district cooling plants need mechanical seal faces, springs and elastomers chosen for chlorides, and bearings protected from water ingress. Ask the seal maker to confirm materials for the actual fluid and temperature, and specify corrosion-resistant coatings on couplings and housings near the sea.
In the UAE there is no single approval for bearings, belts or gearboxes. Buyers work to international standards named in their specifications, and federal rules apply to the electric motors on geared motors and to any electrical part in a hazardous area. For ADNOC and other energy projects, pump seal systems are commonly specified to API 682 and special-purpose gear units to API 613. API 613 excludes gears built into integrally geared compressors, which are covered by API 617 or API 672. The 4th edition is the one we found described in current technical literature; check whether API has issued a later edition and use the one the owner specification cites.

The UAE motor efficiency regulation took effect on 30 December 2023. When you buy a geared motor, ask the supplier whether the motor carries the required conformity and how it treats motors imported as part of a gear unit; the ECAS and EQM guide explains how MoIAT certificates are checked.
In the UAE, bearings, gearboxes and seals reach buyers through manufacturers' regional offices, authorised distributors with stock in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, and general traders. Buy critical bearings and seals from the authorised channel: counterfeit bearings are marketed as genuine branded parts and often need a trained expert to identify, according to the World Bearing Association.
Bearing brands carried on ListGCC include SKF (Sweden); FAG and INA from Germany's Schaeffler group; Timken (United States), known for tapered roller bearings; and NSK, NTN and Koyo from Japan. Gearbox makers include SEW-EURODRIVE and NORD Drivesystems for geared motors, Flender for heavy industrial gear units and couplings, Bonfiglioli (Italy) and Sumitomo Drive Technologies, known for Cyclo reducers. For mechanical seals there are John Crane, EagleBurgmann, AESSEAL, Flowserve and Chesterton.
The World Bearing Association, formed by the American, European and Japanese bearing manufacturers' associations, advises buyers who suspect a fake to contact the brand manufacturer and the authorities. In practice, ask for a dated authorisation letter, confirm it with the brand's regional office, and keep the packaging and batch marks of any bearing that fails early. Many seal and gearbox suppliers also repair. Seal refurbishment, gearbox overhaul and bearing failure analysis are worth asking about, especially for large or old units where a new one is a long import.
For standard bearings, belts and seals, the price and delivery depend mainly on brand, channel and whether the exact designation is stocked in the UAE. For gearboxes, large bearings and engineered seals, the specification and manufacturing slot decide both.
Ask suppliers to confirm UAE stock by part number, and for imports, the factory lead time plus sea freight to Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port. Holding critical spares, such as the mechanical seal and bearings for a key pump, is often cheaper than waiting for an import during a breakdown.
