In the UAE, industrial equipment and MRO (maintenance, repair and operations) is the sector that supplies the mechanical equipment, spare parts and consumables used to run and maintain plants, as opposed to the capital projects that build them. On ListGCC it groups seven product families, from bearings, gearboxes and seals to process pumps and industrial valves.
The people buying are maintenance planners, reliability engineers, storekeepers and procurement teams at refineries, gas plants, power and desalination stations, metals plants, food factories, district cooling operators and facilities management firms across the Emirates. Most of what they order is repeat demand: a bearing with a known part number, a seal kit for a specific pump, a drum of hydraulic oil, a box of stud bolts. A smaller share is engineered equipment, such as an API process pump or a compressor package, which arrives with datasheets, inspection and factory testing. The two kinds of purchase call for different suppliers, and the sections below show how to tell them apart.
Each family below has its own hub page listing the product types, the standards that apply and the UAE companies that supply them.
The bearings and power transmission family covers the parts that carry load or pass torque from a motor to the machine it drives: ball, roller, thrust and slewing bearings, belts and chains, couplings, helical, worm, bevel and planetary gearboxes, and seals and gaskets. In most plants this is the largest line in the MRO budget by order count, because bearings, belts and seals are the parts that wear out. On coastal sites, sand and salt-laden air get into housings, so the sealing arrangement and the grease matter as much as the bearing brand. For flange gaskets, the face type and pressure class must match the flange; the flange and fittings standards guide explains how those are specified.
Compressors and blowers provide plant air, instrument air, process air and the low-pressure air used for aeration and pneumatic conveying. The range runs from screw, reciprocating, centrifugal and oil-free air compressors to air dryers, filters and receivers. Air quality is written to ISO 8573-1, which grades compressed air separately for particles, water and oil as a three-number code such as 2.4.1; food, pharmaceutical and electronics users ask for the cleaner classes. Summer heat in the Emirates eats into cooling margin, so ask for the maximum rated ambient temperature of the package, not only its free air delivery.
Hand and power tools covers hand tools, air tools, electric grinders, drills, rotary hammers and saws, and torque wrenches, multipliers and hydraulic torque wrenches for bolted joints. Shutdown and maintenance contractors buy much of the torque equipment. Hand torque tools are tested and marked to ISO 6789-1:2017, which covers both indicating and setting types, while calibration certificates fall under ISO 6789-2, so ask for both documents when the tools arrive.
The hydraulics and pneumatics family supplies fluid power for mobile plant, presses, marine and port equipment, and process automation. It splits into hydraulic pumps, cylinders, power units, hoses and filters and pneumatic cylinders, directional valves, air preparation units and tubing. Dirty oil wears pumps and valves, so filtration ratings and the quality of hose assemblies deserve the same attention as the pump.
Industrial fasteners and hardware includes bolts and nuts, stud bolts and threaded rods, washers and pins, rivets and anchors, clamps and clips, and industrial springs. For pressure and structural joints, the material grade, the coating and the mill certificate decide whether a batch is accepted, not the price per kilo. Ask which coating and thickness the piping class calls for before you compare quotes on coated studs.
Lubrication and maintenance supplies covers industrial oils and greases, automatic lubrication systems, rust preventives and penetrants, cleaning chemicals, tapes and ready-made MRO kits. In MoIAT's 2022 requirements sheet for regulated products, the lubricant entry covers oils for internal combustion engines (Board Chairman Decision No. 3 of 2011); hydraulic, gear and compressor oils are not named in that entry, so check the current list for the exact product you are buying.
Pumps and valves is the family with the most engineered content. It covers centrifugal pumps, including API 610 process pumps, positive displacement pumps, industrial valves and valve actuators. API 610, which is also published as ISO 13709, covers overhung, between-bearings and vertically suspended centrifugal pumps for petroleum, petrochemical and gas service. For valve type, pressure class and materials for sour gas or seawater, read the valve selection guide for Gulf projects.
UAE buying for industrial equipment and MRO is concentrated in Abu Dhabi's industrial zones around Khalifa Port and Musaffah, and in Dubai around Jebel Ali. Demand comes from oil and gas, utilities, metals, petrochemicals, food processing, logistics and building services.
As of October 2026, no single licence covers MRO products in the UAE. Approvals attach to specific product groups under MoIAT technical regulations, to equipment for hazardous areas, and to the buyer's own procurement rules such as In-Country Value scoring.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority or reference |
|---|---|---|
| ECAS certificate of conformity | Products under a MoIAT technical regulation, including low voltage electrical products (Board Chairman Decision No. 26 of 2009), which can take in mains-powered tools and motor-driven equipment | MoIAT, through notified bodies on the ministry's digital platform |
| Energy efficiency performance report | Rotodynamic pumps, listed among the energy efficiency label products in MoIAT's 2022 requirements sheet | MoIAT |
| ECAS-Ex | Electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres, such as Ex motors and instruments on compressor and pump skids (Cabinet Decision No. 23 of 2016) | MoIAT, with IECEx test reports and certificates from IECEx recognised bodies |
| Lubricant conformity | Lubricating oils for internal combustion engines (Board Chairman Decision No. 3 of 2011) | MoIAT |
| ICV certificate | Suppliers bidding to federal entities and national companies in the National ICV Programme, including ADNOC | MoIAT, through authorised certifying bodies |
| ISO 8573-1 | Compressed air purity classes for particles, water and oil | ISO, specified by the buyer |
| API 610 (ISO 13709) | Centrifugal pumps for petroleum, petrochemical and gas service | API and ISO, specified by the client |

MoIAT's conformity service asks the applicant for a valid UAE trade or industrial licence, a test report from an accredited laboratory and an online declaration of conformity continuity. In practice the certificate sits with the UAE importer, distributor or local manufacturer, not with the overseas factory. When checked in October 2026, the ministry's service page listed AED 500 for technical review per certificate and AED 2,500 for issuance; confirm current fees with MoIAT before you budget. The requirements sheet quoted in the table dates from July 2022 and regulated lists change, so ask each supplier which regulation its certificate was issued under. The ECAS and EQM conformity guide shows how to read and check a certificate.
For ICV, MoIAT says certified suppliers gain advantages when tenders and contracts are awarded, and that 31 government entities and major national companies had joined the programme by mid-2024. A March 2026 law firm summary says bidders to ADNOC and other participating entities without a valid certificate score zero on ICV, and that a certificate runs for 14 months from the audited financial statements it is based on. Rules differ by entity, so read the ICV clause in each tender.
Match the supplier type to the purchase. Buy engineered and critical rotating equipment from the manufacturer or its authorised distributor, and use stockists for speed on commodity parts, provided their certificates trace back to the maker.
A good enquiry states the manufacturer part number or nameplate data, the quantity, the date the goods must be on site, the Incoterm and delivery point, the documents you need (material certificates, test reports, calibration certificates, and an ECAS or ECAS-Ex certificate where the product is regulated), and whether equivalents are acceptable and how they will be judged. For bearings, seals and power tools, buying through the authorised channel is the simplest way to be sure the parts are genuine.
Company checks, agency law and how to compare quotes on the same basis are covered in the guide to sourcing industrial suppliers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. If you would rather have suppliers come to you, post your requirement with the specification and ask for certificates with every quote.
For MRO items, price and lead time depend mostly on whether the part is in UAE stock. A stocked bearing or seal kit is a delivery question; the same part ordered from the factory carries production and freight time. For engineered equipment, the specification sets the price: material grades, API compliance, witnessed performance tests, third-party inspection and documentation packages all add cost and weeks. Certification can add time too, because an ECAS or ECAS-Ex certificate has to exist for the model before it can be placed on the market. Ask each bidder to quote the same scope, state the stock position, and give a delivery date rather than a range.
These brands are listed on ListGCC under categories in this sector. Each brand page shows which UAE companies list it; use that as a shortlist and confirm authorisation with the manufacturer.
