In the UAE, manufacturing machinery is the capital equipment a factory or workshop installs to cut, form, join, mould, print, weave or heat-treat material into products. It is distinct from MRO supplies, which keep that equipment running. On ListGCC the manufacturing machinery sector groups seven families, from CNC and conventional machine tools to arc, MIG and TIG welding equipment.
The buyers are production managers, plant engineers and owners of fabrication shops, packaging converters, plastics plants, joinery workshops, garment units and metal processors. Their purchases fall into two groups. One is the single machine bought to add capacity or replace an old one: a press brake, a CNC lathe, a coding printer. The other is a complete line, such as an extrusion line or a flexographic press with its finishing units, which arrives with installation, commissioning and operator training. Both carry a long service life, so the quality of local support often matters more than a few per cent on the purchase price.
Demand has policy behind it. The UAE Industrial Strategy, known as Operation 300bn, aims to raise the industrial sector's contribution to GDP from AED 133 billion to AED 300 billion by 2031, and the government portal lists machinery and equipment among its advanced manufacturing priorities, alongside rubber and plastics, petrochemicals and food technology. New and expanding factories in those sectors are the main source of machinery orders.
Each family has its own hub page with the machine types, the standards that apply and the UAE companies that sell and service them.
Industrial furnaces and ovens supply controlled heat for treating metal, curing coatings and drying products. The family runs from heat treatment furnaces for annealing, hardening and stress relief to curing ovens for powder coating and composites, plus melting furnaces, drying ovens and kilns. Aluminium, steel and fabrication plants are the main users. Burner type, temperature uniformity and the fuel or power supply available on site drive the specification, and gas-fired units bring their own permitting with the local authority.
Machine tools cut and form metal. The family covers CNC lathes, machining centres and 5-axis machines, press brakes and guillotine shears for sheet metal, punch presses, EDM and wire cut machines, band saws and conventional lathes and mills. Oil and gas service workshops, aluminium and steel fabricators and mould makers all buy them. For a CNC machine, the control system, spindle power, travels and the availability of a local applications engineer decide most of the comparison.
Plastic processing machinery turns resin into parts, film and packaging. It includes injection moulding machines, extrusion lines for pipe, profile and film, blow moulding and thermoforming machines, mould and die making, and plastic recycling machines. Polymer and packaging plants in KEZAD, Dubai Industrial City and Sharjah are the largest users. Many buyers order the moulds separately from the machine, so check tool compatibility before you compare prices.
Printing and labelling machinery covers presses and the machines that apply and code labels on production lines: flexographic presses for labels and flexible packaging, inkjet, laser and thermal transfer coders, digital presses, labelling machines and screen printing machines. Food, beverage, pharmaceutical and personal care plants buy coders and labellers; packaging converters buy the presses. Arabic text, GS1 barcodes and date formats under Gulf food labelling rules shape the specification.
Textile machinery includes industrial cutting and sewing machines, knitting machines, weaving machines, dyeing machines and garment finishing equipment. In the UAE the main buyers are uniform and workwear makers, home textile producers, upholstery shops and garment units in the free zones. Many machines are bought through trading houses that also stock needles, parts and spare motors.
Welding equipment covers power sources for stick, MIG and TIG welding, orbital welding systems for tube and pipe, spot welders, welding robots and cobots, consumables and protective gear. Structural steel, pipe spools, pressure vessels, tanks and HVAC ductwork are the big applications. On UAE projects the welding procedure and welder qualifications are checked as closely as the machine itself, which the family page explains.
Woodworking machinery serves joinery, fit-out and furniture factories: panel saws, CNC routers and nesting machines, edge banders, planers and jointers, and dust collection systems. The UAE fit-out market keeps these workshops busy, and dust extraction deserves as much attention as cutting speed, both for health and for fire risk in a hot climate.
Machinery buying in the UAE concentrates in a few industrial areas: Dubai Industrial City and Jebel Ali in Dubai, KEZAD and Musaffah in Abu Dhabi, and the industrial areas and free zones of Sharjah and Ajman. Machinery suppliers keep showrooms and service workshops close to these clusters.
Most new machinery is imported through Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port. Large machines travel in sea containers or as break bulk and need rigging, a foundation and a power supply ready before they arrive, so plan the site work while the machine is being built.
As of October 2026, the UAE has no single licence for industrial machinery. MoIAT's published list of regulated products, last issued as a requirements sheet in July 2022, does not include a general machinery safety regulation, so approvals attach to the electrical parts, to specific product groups and to the buyer's own procurement rules. Confirm the current position with MoIAT, because the regulated list changes.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority or reference |
|---|---|---|
| ECAS certificate under the low voltage regulation | Mains-powered electrical equipment covered by Board Chairman Decision No. 26 of 2009; whether a given industrial machine falls in scope depends on the regulation's wording, so ask the supplier | MoIAT, through notified bodies |
| RoHS conformity | Restricted substances in electrical and electronic equipment (Cabinet Decision No. 10 of 2017) | MoIAT |
| ECAS-Ex | Electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres, such as machines in solvent-based printing or coating areas (Cabinet Decision No. 23 of 2016) | MoIAT, with IECEx certificates |
| ICV certificate | Suppliers bidding to federal entities and national companies in the National ICV Programme, including ADNOC | MoIAT, through authorised certifying bodies |
| Food labelling (GSO 9:2022) | Labels on prepackaged food, which set what coders and label printers must print | GSO, applied by UAE food authorities |
| Welding quality and qualification (ISO 3834, ISO 9606-1, ASME IX, AWS D1.1) | Fabrication shops and welders on structural, piping and pressure work | Called up in client and consultant specifications |
Because the ECAS application needs a valid UAE trade or industrial licence, the certificate sits with the UAE importer or distributor, not the overseas factory. Ask which regulation each certificate was issued under and check it against the model you are buying; the guide to ECAS and EQM conformity in the UAE shows how to read one. Many European, Japanese and Korean machines arrive with a CE declaration under the EU Machinery Directive. That is useful evidence of the design basis, but it is not a UAE approval in itself.
The ICV programme is part of Operation 300bn. MoIAT says certified suppliers gain an advantage when tenders are awarded. For a factory buying machinery to supply ADNOC or a government entity, the machine supplier's own ICV score matters less than the factory's, but local assembly, service and spare parts can count toward it, so ask suppliers what they spend in the UAE.
Buy production machines from the manufacturer or its authorised UAE distributor whenever installation, training and long-term parts supply matter, which is almost always. Used machinery dealers and traders suit simple machines, short-term capacity and tight budgets, provided you inspect before you pay.
A useful enquiry gives the parts or products you will make, materials and sizes, the output you need, the electrical supply at your site (voltage, frequency and available load), the floor space and foundation, and the training and documents you expect: operating manuals, electrical drawings, a spare parts list and, where relevant, conformity certificates. Ask each bidder to price installation, commissioning, training and a recommended two-year spares kit separately, so the quotes compare like for like.
The guide to sourcing industrial suppliers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia covers licence checks and agency law. To receive quotes, post your requirement with the machine specification and your delivery date.
Machinery price follows capacity, control system and options: a CNC machine with a larger work envelope, more axes, a higher spindle speed and automation costs more, as does a press with more colour stations or a welding cell with a robot. Lead time depends on whether the model is in regional stock. A standard welding set or coder may be on a shelf in Jafza; a configured machining centre, flexo press or extrusion line is built to order and then shipped, cleared, installed and commissioned. Add time for any certificate the UAE distributor needs, for the foundation and power connection, and for operator training. Ask every bidder for a delivery date at your site and the date the machine will be producing.
These brands are listed on ListGCC under categories in this sector. Each brand page shows which UAE companies list it; confirm authorisation with the manufacturer before you buy.
