Hand and power tools in the UAE are the hand tools, electric and cordless power tools, pneumatic tools and torque tools used on construction sites, in plant maintenance, oil and gas shutdowns and fabrication shops. This page lists UAE tool suppliers and explains the four tool groups, how UAE heat and dust affect tool choice, the ECAS, torque and calibration requirements that come up, and what drives price and availability.

Hand and power tools are the portable tools a technician carries to the job: manual hand tools, electric power tools, air-powered pneumatic tools and torque tools for controlled bolting. On ListGCC they are part of industrial equipment and MRO for the UAE, and they are bought both by contractors fitting out buildings in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and by maintenance teams in refineries, power and desalination plants and workshops.
Each group answers a different question: hand tools are bought for reach, fit and durability, power tools for speed and battery platform, pneumatic tools for heavy continuous duty where compressed air is available, and torque tools for bolted joints that must be tightened to a known value.
| Tool group | Typical use in the UAE | Key specification points |
|---|---|---|
| Hand tools for maintenance and installation | Mechanical and piping maintenance, electrical work, fit-out, vehicle and plant workshops | Drive size and fit, material and finish, insulated tools for electrical work, pipe wrenches and cutters for piping crews |
| Power tools, corded and cordless | Drilling and anchoring in concrete, grinding and cutting on fabrication, fit-out and MEP installation | Battery platform and voltage, SDS-plus or SDS-max chuck on rotary hammers for concrete drilling, disc size and guard on angle grinders, dust extraction |
| Pneumatic tools for heavy and continuous duty | Shutdown bolting, tyre and heavy vehicle workshops, shipyards, fabrication and blasting yards | Air consumption and pressure, drive size and torque on pneumatic impact wrenches, hose and coupling size, noise and vibration |
| Torque tools for controlled bolting | Flange joints, pressure equipment, structural steel, turbines and rotating equipment | Torque range, accuracy and calibration certificate; hand torque wrenches for smaller bolts, hydraulic wrenches for large flanges |
Tools are only part of the job. Pneumatic tools need dry air at the right pressure from air compressors and air treatment, and torque tools are only as good as the studs, nuts and washers they tighten, which come from industrial fasteners and hardware suppliers. Hydraulic torque wrenches run from pumps of the kind listed under hydraulics and pneumatics.
UAE heat and fine dust shorten the life of batteries, motors and switches, and they change how tools should be stored, charged and serviced. Choosing a tool for the UAE is as much about the battery, the motor enclosure and the service network as about the catalogue rating.
Lithium-ion packs and chargers carry an operating and charging temperature window in the manufacturer's manual, and a pack left in a vehicle or a site container through a UAE summer afternoon can be too hot to charge until it cools. Ask suppliers for the manual limits for the exact pack and charger, provide shaded charging points in site cabins, and standardise on one battery platform per site so spare packs can rotate while others cool.
Concrete dust from drilling and chasing, and windblown sand on open sites, get into motor vents, switches and chucks. Brushless motors avoid carbon brush wear, dust extraction attachments keep fines out of the tool and away from the operator, and SDS chucks need regular cleaning and greasing. For angle grinders and rotary hammers, ask the distributor what service kits and spare parts are stocked in the UAE.
In refineries and gas plants, electric tools are controlled by the hot work permit system, and many maintenance teams use pneumatic or hydraulic tools inside process areas. Any electrical equipment intended for explosive atmospheres falls under MoIAT's ECAS-Ex scheme, so ask for the certificate if a tool or lamp is offered for hazardous-area use. Follow the site permit rules rather than a supplier's general claim.
A leaking flange after a shutdown is often a bolting problem, not a gasket one. ASME PCC-1 gives guidelines for assembling pressure boundary bolted flange joints, including bolt tightening patterns and an appendix on training and qualifying bolted joint assemblers. Pair the right torque tool with a written procedure and a trained crew.
For electric tools, the UAE rules that matter are MoIAT's conformity schemes for regulated electrical products; for torque tools, the ISO 6789 series and accredited calibration; for pneumatic tools, the ISO 11148 safety series. Large buyers such as ADNOC add vendor registration. We checked the table below in October 2026.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority |
|---|---|---|
| ECAS certificate for low voltage electrical products, where the tool is in scope | Mains-powered tools and chargers placed on the UAE market | MoIAT, via notified bodies |
| UAE RoHS, Cabinet Decision No. 10 of 2017 | Restricted substances in electrical and electronic equipment | MoIAT |
| ECAS-Ex | Equipment for explosive atmospheres | MoIAT |
| ISO 6789-1:2017 | Design and quality conformance tests and declaration of conformance for hand torque tools (Type I indicating, Type II setting) | ISO |
| ISO 6789-2:2017 | Calibration of hand torque tools and measurement uncertainty | ISO |
| ISO 11148 series | Safety of hand-held non-electric power tools; Part 6 covers impact wrenches, nutrunners and other assembly tools for threaded fasteners | ISO |
| ASME PCC-1 | Assembly of pressure boundary bolted flange joints | ASME, via the owner procedure |
| Accredited calibration laboratory | Calibration certificates for torque tools and measuring tools | EIAC |
SGS, a MoIAT notified body, lists low voltage electrical products among the ECAS regulated categories and notes that certificates run for one year with annual renewal. We could not confirm from an official MoIAT text which power tools sit inside the low voltage scope, so ask the UAE supplier which regulation its certificate is issued under. Our ECAS and EQM guide explains the documents a notified body asks for.
ISO 6789-1 sets the conformance tests and the declaration a new torque tool should arrive with, and ISO 6789-2 sets the calibration method and how measurement uncertainty is calculated. Both 2017 parts are listed by ISO as under revision, so check the edition on the certificate. For recalibration, use a laboratory accredited for torque by EIAC, the UAE accreditation body, which accredits calibration laboratories among other conformity assessment bodies.
Tool suppliers to ADNOC group companies register on the ADNOC Supplier Hub, choose the product groups that match their trade licence and complete due diligence before prequalification, according to the registration manual.
UAE tools come through manufacturers that run their own regional offices and sales teams, authorised distributors with service workshops, and general traders and hardware stores in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. For professional tools, buy through the manufacturer or an authorised distributor so that warranty, genuine spares and calibration support apply in the UAE.
Power tool brands carried on ListGCC include Hilti (Liechtenstein), which sells direct and covers rotary hammers, diamond coring and anchoring; Bosch Professional power tools; Makita (Japan); DeWalt and Milwaukee from the United States with their cordless platforms; and Metabo (Germany). For pneumatic tools there is Chicago Pneumatic, an Atlas Copco group brand. For torque, Norbar (United Kingdom) and Stahlwille (Germany) make hand torque tools, and HYTORC and Enerpac make hydraulic torque wrenches and bolting systems.
Common hand tools, cordless kits, grinders, drills and consumables are usually in stock in the UAE, while large hydraulic bolting kits, special sockets and hazardous-area items may be imported to order or offered on rental for shutdowns. Our guide on sourcing industrial suppliers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia covers authorisation and warranty checks. To get quotes for a tool list or a shutdown kit, post your tools requirement.
Tool prices in the UAE vary with the brand tier, the battery platform, duty rating and accessories, and, for torque tools, with accuracy and calibration paperwork. Lead time is short for stocked tools and longer for specialist bolting equipment and hazardous-area items.
For shutdown work, plan hydraulic torque wrench kits, pumps and calibrated sockets weeks ahead, since many are imported or shared across shutdowns. Ask whether the supplier offers rental or a loan pool if the purchase lead time does not fit the outage.
