Pipes and fittings in the UAE are the PP-R, uPVC, CPVC, HDPE, ductile iron and copper pipe systems used for water supply, drainage and sewage in buildings and networks. This page sets out each pipe family and its standard, how UAE heat, sun and soil affect ratings, the Abu Dhabi QCC and civil defence approval routes, who supplies what, and what drives price and delivery time.

Pipes and fittings in the UAE are the plastic, ductile iron and copper pipe systems that carry cold and hot water, drainage and sewage through buildings and out to the utility networks. They are the core of the plumbing and sanitary supplies market, and they connect the sanitary ware and bathroom fixtures on one side to the water tanks and reservoirs on the other. Fire water pipework is a separate package under fire protection systems. This page covers the five pipe families UAE contractors buy, the standards each is made to, how heat, sun and soil affect them, the Abu Dhabi and civil defence approval routes, and what to ask suppliers. Regulatory points were checked in October 2026.
Most UAE buildings use PP-R or CPVC for water supply inside the building, uPVC for soil, waste and drainage, HDPE for buried water and irrigation lines, ductile iron for larger mains, and copper where the specification asks for metal. Write the product standard and pressure class on the order, not just the material.
| Pipe family | Where UAE projects use it | Key standard and spec |
|---|---|---|
| PP-R pipes and fittings for hot and cold water | Water supply risers and branches in towers, villas, hotels and labour accommodation | ISO 15874-2, which sets service conditions by application class, design pressure and dimension class; heat fusion joints |
| uPVC and CPVC pipes and fittings | Soil, waste and vent stacks, buried drainage, cold water pressure lines; CPVC for hot water | ISO 1452 for PVC-U pressure piping, written for cold water up to 25 °C; drainage standards for non-pressure lines |
| HDPE pipes for water, irrigation and pressure drainage | Buried water services, landscape irrigation, pressure sewers, infrastructure in new communities | ISO 4427-2: PE pipes for water and pressure drainage, operating pressure up to 25 bar at a 20 °C reference temperature |
| Ductile iron pipes and fittings | Larger water transmission and distribution mains, sewers, pumping station pipework | ISO 2531 for water (adopted in the Gulf as GSO ISO 2531), zinc coating, cement mortar lining, polyethylene sleeving in aggressive soil |
| Copper pipes and fittings | Hot and cold water in premium buildings, medical gas, HVAC refrigerant lines | GSO EN 1057 (EN 1057) for water and gas tubes from 6 to 267 mm outside diameter; ASTM B88 on US specifications |
For steel process piping in plants and utilities, the rules are different: industrial pipe fittings and flanges follow ASME dimensional standards, explained in our pipe fittings and flanges standards guide. The rest of this page is about building services and water networks.
Temperature is the first check for plastic pipe in the UAE: pressure ratings are set at a reference temperature, and roof tanks, exposed risers and pipes in hot ceiling voids run well above it in summer. After that come UV on anything above ground, thermal movement on long runs and corrosive ground for metal pipe.
ISO 1452 frames PVC-U pressure pipe for cold water up to and including 25 °C, with components for water and waste water up to 45 °C. ISO 4427-2 rates PE pipe at a 20 °C reference temperature and points to Part 1 for other temperatures. ISO 15874 handles PP-R through application classes for different service temperatures. In practice, ask the designer for the real operating temperature of each line, including cold water that has sat in a rooftop tank, and select the pipe series or SDR for that temperature, not the catalogue headline pressure.
Plastic pipe left in the sun degrades. aquatherm, for example, says regular UV exposure discolours its PP-R pipe and weakens it, that the pipe can be stored outdoors unprotected for up to six months, and that longer exposure needs a permanent wrap, insulation or UV-protective paint. Keep pipe bagged and shaded in the yard, and specify cladding or insulation for any run on a roof or facade. aquatherm PP-R and fibre composite pipe, wefatherm PP-R systems and Vesbo PP-R pipe, made in the UAE all publish installation guidance on this.
Plastics move far more with temperature than steel or copper. aquatherm states that standard PP can expand five to ten times as much as metal pipe, and that its fibre composite (faser) pipe cuts linear expansion by at least 75 percent. Concealed pipe usually needs little allowance, but exposed risers and long horizontal runs need fixed points, sliding supports and expansion loops, sized from the maker's charts.
Ductile iron mains laid in salty coastal ground or contaminated fill need extra protection. ISO 8180 covers polyethylene sleeving fitted on site over ductile iron pipe and fittings, mainly where the soil is aggressive. For buried plastic lines the worry is different: ISO 4427-2 notes that its pipes are not intended for drinking water in contaminated soils without special consideration, so share the soil report with the supplier.
There is no single federal approval for building pipes; the requirement depends on the emirate, the network owner and what the pipe carries. The main routes are below.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority |
|---|---|---|
| Technical Approval of Construction and Infrastructure Materials (QCC-PCS-ASP045.02, issued February 2022) | Materials named in the Abu Dhabi Emirate Guideline for Infrastructure Services or an infrastructure provider's project requirements, where no other QCC scheme covers them | Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), applied for through TAMM by a UAE manufacturer or licensed supplier |
| Civil defence certificate for fire and life safety products | Sprinkler, hydrant and fire water components | UAE Civil Defence and each emirate's civil defence authority |
| Product conformity certificate where a MoIAT technical regulation applies | Products inside a regulation's scope | Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) |
| ISO 15874, ISO 1452, ISO 4427, ISO 2531, GSO EN 1057 | PP-R, PVC-U, PE, ductile iron and copper pipe | International and Gulf standards named in the specification |
The QCC scheme lets a product show it meets the infrastructure guidelines, project specifications or international standards, and asks for a UAE commercial or industrial licence and the manufacturer's authorisation letter. The QCC copy we read says it is uncontrolled and points to qcc.gov.ae for the latest version, so check before you rely on it. For fire water lines, our guide to civil defence approval for fire safety equipment covers the certificate route used by fire sprinkler systems. Whether any MoIAT regulation covers a given pipe depends on that regulation's scope; our ECAS and EQM guide shows how to ask.
The UAE has its own plastic pipe extruders as well as importers of European, Turkish and Asian systems, so buyers can choose between local stock with short delivery and imported systems that a specification names. Fittings, valves and jointing tools usually come from the same system maker, which matters because heat fusion and solvent joints are only warranted within one system.
Ask each supplier for the product certificate or third-party test report for the exact standard and size range, the drinking water suitability evidence where the line is potable, the QCC approval where the project is in Abu Dhabi infrastructure, mill or batch certificates for copper and ductile iron, and jointing training for the installer. Our guide on how to source industrial suppliers covers broader vetting, and you can post your pipes and fittings requirement with the bill of quantities to get comparable prices.
Resin and metal prices, the pressure series and the share of fittings in the order move price more than the brand name. The drivers to watch:
