Thickeners and clarifiers in the UAE are settling tanks that separate solids from water by gravity: thickeners concentrate the settled solids, while clarifiers produce clear overflow. This page explains the types, how they differ, what to specify for UAE water recovery, heat and corrosion, which approvals apply, and how to compare suppliers.
Not in the usual sense. Sharjah has no large metal mining operation, and the mining, quarrying and minerals sector is thin here compared with the mountain areas of the north and east of the UAE and the mining regions of Saudi Arabia. What exists is support work: aggregate handling, crushing and recycling for construction, mineral supply for industry, and safety gear. Sharjah Municipality is reported to have opened a construction waste recycling plant at Al Sajaa, which uses crushing and screening equipment to turn demolition debris into reusable material.
Contractors, concrete and block makers and recycling firms buy stone crushers and screening plants, mobile crushing plants, silica sand for glass and foundry work, gypsum for building products and mining PPE that doubles as heavy industry safety wear. Steel fabricators in Hamriyah Free Zone also use blasting media and abrasives, and ceramic and glass makers need minerals as raw material.
Recycling and crushing activity sits at Al Sajaa, which has land for yards and open storage. Minerals traders and industrial suppliers sit in Sharjah Industrial Area and SAIF Zone, where small warehouses suit bagged goods. Bulk minerals arrive at Hamriyah or Khalid Port, which handle general and industrial cargo, and then move by truck.
For crushers, ask for a throughput test on your material, because feed size and hardness change output. Ask whether the plant is mobile or fixed, and what noise and dust control it includes, since Sharjah's municipality and environmental authorities may review the site. For minerals, ask for a lab analysis and a sample before an order. If you need a metal mining solution, look at Saudi regions through the Saudi hub and then post your need at post a requirement.
Sharjah's industry sits in three places. The first is the Sharjah Industrial Area inside the city, a run of numbered districts mostly along the Dubai border. Wikipedia lists 18 of them plus Al Sajaa, and describes workshops, warehouses, scrap yards, auto parts dealers, building materials firms, engineering contractors and the head office of a paint maker.
The second is Al Sajaa, further out near the airport and Al Hamriyah Port. A 2018 Gulf News report described the Al Sajaa Industrial Oasis, about 14 million square feet backed by Sharjah Asset Management Holding, as land for firms leaving the inner-city areas. It is not a free zone. Sajaa is also where the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) runs a gas and condensate processing complex with a hub for pipelines to the Northern Emirates.
The third is the free zones. Hamriyah Free Zone was set up in 1995, covers about 24 square kilometres according to Wikipedia, has its own deep-water port, and holds an LPG storage terminal with a marine berth. SAIF Zone, beside Sharjah International Airport, lists offices, purpose-built warehouses, plots from 2,500 square metres for custom factories or warehouses, and a jewellery manufacturing park. The Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park, a free zone, sits in University City.
Sharjah has ports on two coasts. Gulftainer lists the Sharjah Container Terminal, the Khorfakkan Commercial Terminal on the east coast, the Sharjah Dry Port and the Sajaa Dry Port among the facilities it manages. Hamriyah's port is described as 14 metres deep. By road, the E311 and E611 connect to Dubai, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah, and the E88 Al Dhaid Road runs across to Fujairah. Many buyers also clear cargo at Jebel Ali in Dubai, so ask your forwarder which gate suits your load.
The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) licenses businesses and has an industrial-area branch; its page says factories also need approval from Sharjah Municipality and the environmental authorities. Sharjah Municipality handles building permits, product approvals and food control. Sharjah Civil Defence approves plans, issues hazardous materials permits and compliance certificates, and ran a large inspection campaign in the industrial zones in the first half of 2025. The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) supplies power, water and piped natural gas. Companies inside a free zone deal with that zone's own authority first.
Building materials, paints, engineering workshops, auto parts and general trading dominate the inner industrial districts. Food processing has a foothold in Hamriyah, where a halal processed meat factory was reported in 2017. Gas, condensate and LPG handling drive oilfield and process-equipment demand at Sajaa and Hamriyah. Farming is small, centred on Al Dhaid. Sharjah is not a mining or heavy-steel city, so those buyers look to Abu Dhabi or the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
