Thickeners and clarifiers in the UAE are settling tanks that separate solids from water by gravity: thickeners concentrate the settled solids, while clarifiers produce clear overflow. This page explains the types, how they differ, what to specify for UAE water recovery, heat and corrosion, which approvals apply, and how to compare suppliers.
The Hajar mountains come down close to the Fujairah coast, and that rock is why mining, quarrying and minerals is one of Fujairah's strongest sectors. Trade press has long described the emirate as a main source of aggregate for the northern Emirates and the wider Gulf, with crushed gabbro and limestone sent to construction sites. The Port of Fujairah lists Al Kaser Bay as a berth for aggregate barges, with two berths of 115 metre and 120 metre maximum length and depths of 7 and 10 metres. There is little metal mining here; the business is stone, crushing and screening.
The core purchases are stone crushers and screening plants, mobile crushing plants and aggregate processing equipment such as washing and sand plants. Face work needs rock breakers and hammers and mining drill rigs. Dust is a regulatory issue, so mining PPE and dust suppression come up in almost every purchase.
A Gulf News report on a stone-crushing unit at Masafi describes the Ministry of Environment and Water ordering it to stop for high particulate emissions after repeated pollution fines, and the Fujairah Natural Resources Authority ordering the owners to halt operations until maintenance was done. The lesson for buyers: choose crushers with enclosed transfer points, dust collection and water spray, and keep maintenance records. Confirm current quarry and crusher licence conditions with the Fujairah Natural Resources Authority, Fujairah Municipality and the federal environment ministry.
Ask for the rock type and abrasiveness your supplier sized the crusher for, because gabbro wears liners faster than limestone. Ask for the wear parts list, local stock of liners and screen media, and the service response time to Masafi, Dibba or Al Hayl. Used plants are common; inspect the frame and bearings and ask for a run test. Post one specification through post a requirement to compare new and used offers on the same basis.
Fujairah is the only emirate that lies entirely on the eastern coast, on the Gulf of Oman, and the UAE government describes it as the country's only access point to the Indian Ocean. Its industry follows that coastline. The Port of Fujairah and the Fujairah Free Zone sit next to each other just north of Fujairah City, and the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone behind the port holds a large share of the region's refined and crude oil storage. Wikipedia puts that storage at about 10 million cubic metres and counts 18 companies in the zone. Inland, the Hajar foothills carry the quarries, crushers and cement plants that supply building projects in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Al Hayl is the working industrial area for warehouses, workshops and heavy engineering yards, and the Fujairah Free Zone Authority has long held land there for heavy engineering.
The port runs oil, dry bulk, marine services, container, general cargo, RoRo, cruise and livestock berths, and it also serves the aggregate and limestone trades. Fujairah Terminals is upgrading the container and general cargo side, and the port says capacity is expected to reach 1.3 million TEU by 2030. Fujairah International Airport lies south of the city and mainly handles cargo. By road, the Sheikh Khalifa Highway links the city to Dubai. By rail, Etihad Rail and AD Ports launched a container service on 21 September 2026 between Fujairah Terminals and the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi, about 200 km away, with three trips a week at launch. Because Fujairah is outside the Strait of Hormuz, shipowners and traders use it for bunkering, spares and crew supplies without the transit.
Most approvals sit with Fujairah Municipality for building and trade premises, Civil Defence for fire and life safety, and the Fujairah Free Zone Authority for anything inside the zone. Port-side activity answers to the Port of Fujairah. Water and power connections are handled by Etihad Water and Electricity, and environmental clearance for quarries, storage and plants involves the emirate's environment authority. Confirm the exact sequence for your premises with Fujairah Municipality before signing a lease or ordering plant.
Four groups drive demand. Oil terminals and marine service firms buy pumps, valves, hoses, lubricants, safety gear and fire equipment. Quarry and cement operators buy crushers, earthmoving machines, conveyors and spares. Power and water plants at Qidfa, south of Khor Fakkan, buy rotating equipment, chemicals and controls; the 60 MIGD seawater desalination plant signed by Etihad Water and Electricity in 2026 for the Port of Fujairah area will add to that. Farms in Masafi, Dibba and the wadis, plus fishing fleets, buy irrigation, cold storage and boat gear. Hospitals including the new Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, opened in 2025, buy medical equipment.
