Food safety and quality suppliers in the UAE provide the HACCP consultants, accredited testing, metal detectors, X-ray systems and checkweighers that food plants and kitchens use to meet Dubai Municipality and ADAFSA rules and customer audits. This page explains the main types, which approvals apply as of 2026, how heat and humidity affect inspection equipment, and what drives price and lead time, above the list of UAE suppliers.

Food safety and quality in the UAE is the mix of services and equipment a food business uses to prove its product is safe and correct before it leaves the site: a HACCP-based food safety programme, certification audits, laboratory testing, and in-line inspection machines that catch metal, glass or a short-weight pack. It sits within the wider food and beverage processing sector in the UAE, which covers regulators and halal at overview level. This page goes one layer deeper, into what a plant or central kitchen in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah actually buys.
The buyers are quality managers at food factories in Jebel Ali, Dubai Industrial City, KIZAD and the Sharjah industrial areas, central kitchens and caterers supplying airlines, hotels and schools, importers and cold stores that must trace and recall stock, and retailers running own-label ranges.
| Type | What it does | Key specification points |
|---|---|---|
| HACCP consultants and food safety system support | Writes or reviews the HACCP plan and prerequisite programmes, trains staff, prepares the site for municipality and certification audits | Experience in your product category, auditor or lead implementer qualifications, familiarity with the Dubai Food Code or ADAFSA codes of practice |
| Metal detectors for food lines | Finds ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless steel fragments in packs, bulk flows and pumped products | Aperture size, stated sensitivity per metal type on your product, reject mechanism, fail-safe features, washdown rating |
| X-ray inspection systems | Finds dense foreign bodies such as glass, stone, calcified bone and dense plastics; can also check fill level and missing items | Detection performance on your product, beam power, throughput, cabinet cooling, radiation safety documentation |
| Checkweighers | Weighs every pack at line speed, rejects under and over weight, can feed back to the filler | Weighing range and accuracy at speed, belt length, reject types, data output for production records |
| Food testing and hygiene monitoring equipment | In-house checks on product and surfaces: microbiology, ATP swabs, moisture, pH, temperature and allergen screening | Method validation, consumables supply in the UAE, data recording, link to an accredited external laboratory for confirmation |
Many lines combine the last three: a checkweigher with a metal detector or X-ray head on one frame saves floor space. The machines that sit either side of inspection are covered on the food packaging equipment page for fillers, sealers and wrappers and the food processing equipment page for cooking, mixing and forming lines.
As of 2026, UAE food businesses work under emirate-level food codes: Dubai Municipality enforces the Dubai Food Code, and the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) enforces Abu Dhabi food regulations through its codes of practice. Both expect a documented, HACCP-based food safety system. The versions we could open are dated (the Dubai Food Code on the municipality's site is the 2013 edition), so confirm current rules with the authority before you specify.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority or source |
|---|---|---|
| Documented food safety programme based on HACCP, audited by a third-party food safety auditor approved by Dubai Municipality unless waived; audit reports kept for four years | Food establishments in Dubai | Dubai Municipality, Dubai Food Code |
| At least one full-time, on-site Person in Charge (PIC) certified in food safety | Food establishments in Dubai | Dubai Municipality, Dubai Food Code |
| Food safety management system based on HACCP principles (Regulation No. 6 of 2010, Article 100) | Food businesses in Abu Dhabi | ADAFSA |
| Traceability and recall (Regulation No. 3 of 2008 and Code of Practice No. 1 of 2010, as listed by ADAFSA) | Food and feed businesses in Abu Dhabi | ADAFSA |
| ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories; accreditation of certification and inspection bodies | Labs testing food, certification bodies issuing ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000 certificates | Emirates International Accreditation Centre (EIAC) |
| ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 certification | Factories supplying retailers, airlines, export customers | Accredited certification bodies; FSSC 22000 is recognised by GFSI |
HACCP is the method: the seven principles in the Codex Alimentarius general principles of food hygiene, from hazard analysis and critical control points through monitoring, corrective action, verification and records. It is what the Dubai and Abu Dhabi codes ask for as a minimum. ISO 22000 wraps HACCP in a full management system with documented objectives, internal audit and management review. FSSC 22000 adds sector prerequisite programmes from the ISO 22002 series and its own scheme requirements to ISO 22000, and because it is GFSI recognised it is the certificate large retailers and international brand owners usually ask for. Pick the level your customers demand, not the highest one on offer.
Results that go to a regulator or a customer should come from a laboratory accredited for that test. EIAC accredits testing and calibration laboratories, inspection and certification bodies, and halal conformity assessment bodies, lists ILAC and IAF among its international recognitions, and keeps a public directory of accredited bodies. Check that the exact method and matrix (for example Salmonella in dairy, or aflatoxin in nuts) is on the lab's scope, not just the lab's name.
The Dubai Food Code asks that instruments used to measure or monitor anything affecting product safety or legality be calibrated to a standard recognised by the Food Control Department at a set frequency. In practice that means probe thermometers, cold room loggers, checkweighers and lab balances on a calibration schedule with certificates from an accredited lab. See calibration equipment and EIAC-traceable calibration in the UAE.
The Dubai Food Code sets out proofing measures (sealed gaps, door thresholds of no more than 6 mm with kick plates, mesh screens on openings), and ADAFSA's 2019 retail code of practice required an approved pest control company visiting twice a month with a log book on site. Treat those as minimums and confirm the current rule with your emirate. Contractors are listed under licensed pest control services in the UAE, part of wider facilities management services.
Under the Dubai Food Code, manufacturers, importers and distributors must promptly withdraw or recall unsafe or non-conforming food, recall on a municipality order, and notify the Food Control Department. That only works if your lot coding, dispatch records and supplier records let you trace a batch in hours. Run a mock recall at least once a year and time it.
Inspection machines are electronic instruments living in wet, cold or hot production rooms, and UAE summers make the gap between those rooms larger. Most problems come from temperature swings, condensation and washdown, not from the contaminant itself.
Cold stores and chilled transport have their own temperature control rules, covered under cold chain equipment for UAE food logistics.
Inspection machines reach the UAE through manufacturer subsidiaries and authorised distributors, usually with a service engineer based in Dubai. Brands to compare include Mettler Toledo checkweighers and metal detection, Ishida X-ray and checkweighers, Fortress Technology metal detectors and combination systems, Bizerba checkweighers and weigh-labelling and Marel weighing and grading for meat, poultry and fish. For the lab bench, Sartorius laboratory balances and moisture analysers are common, and Ecolab food safety, sanitation and pest control programmes cover the hygiene side.
The general sourcing checks are in our guide on how to source industrial suppliers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and where inspection fits on a packing line is covered in the packaging machinery buying guide for GCC food plants. If you want quotes from several UAE suppliers, post your requirement.
Price follows detection performance and integration more than brand. Lead time follows whether the machine is a standard model held regionally or built to your aperture and conveyor.
