Desalting equipment in the UAE is the vessel, electrical and mixing hardware that strips salt and water from crude oil before it reaches the heaters and columns of a refinery. This page explains the desalter types, how Gulf crudes and heat shape the design, which codes and ICV rules apply as of 2026, and what moves price and delivery.
Fujairah matters to oil, gas and petrochemicals because of where it is, not because it produces much crude. It sits on the Gulf of Oman, outside the Strait of Hormuz. The Port of Fujairah calls itself one of the world's three largest bunkering hubs, with bunker fuel stored mainly at liquid bulk terminals in the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, loaded at the Fujairah Oil Tanker Terminals and delivered by barge to the anchorage. The port page also describes a 360 km pipeline carrying Murban crude from Habshan to Fujairah, operating since 2012 with 1.8 million barrels per day of capacity. A 2019 Gulf News report put refined product storage in the zone at about 10 million cubic metres.
The market is storage, transfer and trading, not drilling. Typical purchases are storage tanks and terminals, tank farm equipment, pipeline valves, loading and unloading arms and metering and custody transfer systems. Petroleum products themselves, including marine fuels, are traded by suppliers here. For upstream drilling and well services, look first to Abu Dhabi and the Eastern Province in Saudi Arabia.
The port reports that the Fujairah Oil Tanker Terminals can operate 9 main berths and 14 wing berths, with a VLCC jetty handling up to 330,000 DWT, and that matrix manifolds let terminals transfer product directly. For equipment buyers, that means interchangeable hose, arm and valve standards matter. Ask suppliers for the design code, pressure rating, material certificates and fire-safe test evidence for valves. Terminal operators set their own approved vendor lists, so ask which suppliers each terminal accepts before quoting.
Tank farms must follow the zone's and operators' safety rules, and fire protection is checked with civil defence. Confirm the current requirements with the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, the Port of Fujairah and Fujairah Civil Defence. Use post a requirement to collect quotes against one tank, valve or metering specification.
Fujairah is the only emirate that lies entirely on the eastern coast, on the Gulf of Oman, and the UAE government describes it as the country's only access point to the Indian Ocean. Its industry follows that coastline. The Port of Fujairah and the Fujairah Free Zone sit next to each other just north of Fujairah City, and the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone behind the port holds a large share of the region's refined and crude oil storage. Wikipedia puts that storage at about 10 million cubic metres and counts 18 companies in the zone. Inland, the Hajar foothills carry the quarries, crushers and cement plants that supply building projects in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Al Hayl is the working industrial area for warehouses, workshops and heavy engineering yards, and the Fujairah Free Zone Authority has long held land there for heavy engineering.
The port runs oil, dry bulk, marine services, container, general cargo, RoRo, cruise and livestock berths, and it also serves the aggregate and limestone trades. Fujairah Terminals is upgrading the container and general cargo side, and the port says capacity is expected to reach 1.3 million TEU by 2030. Fujairah International Airport lies south of the city and mainly handles cargo. By road, the Sheikh Khalifa Highway links the city to Dubai. By rail, Etihad Rail and AD Ports launched a container service on 21 September 2026 between Fujairah Terminals and the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi, about 200 km away, with three trips a week at launch. Because Fujairah is outside the Strait of Hormuz, shipowners and traders use it for bunkering, spares and crew supplies without the transit.
Most approvals sit with Fujairah Municipality for building and trade premises, Civil Defence for fire and life safety, and the Fujairah Free Zone Authority for anything inside the zone. Port-side activity answers to the Port of Fujairah. Water and power connections are handled by Etihad Water and Electricity, and environmental clearance for quarries, storage and plants involves the emirate's environment authority. Confirm the exact sequence for your premises with Fujairah Municipality before signing a lease or ordering plant.
Four groups drive demand. Oil terminals and marine service firms buy pumps, valves, hoses, lubricants, safety gear and fire equipment. Quarry and cement operators buy crushers, earthmoving machines, conveyors and spares. Power and water plants at Qidfa, south of Khor Fakkan, buy rotating equipment, chemicals and controls; the 60 MIGD seawater desalination plant signed by Etihad Water and Electricity in 2026 for the Port of Fujairah area will add to that. Farms in Masafi, Dibba and the wadis, plus fishing fleets, buy irrigation, cold storage and boat gear. Hospitals including the new Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, opened in 2025, buy medical equipment.
