Turbidity meters in the UAE measure the cloudiness of water from suspended particles, and are used in desalination pre-treatment, potable water, sewage treatment and cooling loops. This page explains portable, benchtop, online and immersion types, NTU versus FNU, ISO 7027 and EPA 180.1, effects of heat and fouling, standards as of 2026 and what drives price and lead time.
The emirate buys for heavy plant. Quarries, cement, glass and ceramics lines, a seawater desalination plant and a growing industrial park all need power distribution, motor control and process measurement. RAKEZ names a low voltage switchgear and busway maker among its Al Ghail tenants, a 16,000 square meter unit that has been in RAKEZ since 2008 and serves the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. So local supply is real for mechanical, electrical and instrumentation work, even though the market is smaller than Dubai's.
Industrial buyers sit in Al Ghail, Al Hamra and Al Hulaila, the three RAKEZ industrial zones, and near the quarries at Khor Khuwair. Distributors and panel shops cluster in and around these zones. The utility serving the emirate is Etihad Water and Electricity, which is also a partner in the planned wastewater plant, so power connection and metering questions go to it. Check the current rules for connection approvals directly with the utility and with RAKEZ before ordering transformers or large panels.
For low voltage switchgear and switchgear and panels, ask for type test reports, short circuit ratings and the enclosure rating for dust and coastal humidity. Quarry and cement sites ask for dust sealed motors and motors and drives that tolerate heat. Variable frequency drives need ventilation allowance in the panel room. For cables and wiring, confirm the sheath and fire performance suit the site and that cable trays are sized for derating in summer. Process plants should specify flow measurement and pressure instruments with calibration certificates.
Send one spec sheet with voltage, fault level, ingress protection and delivery site to several suppliers through post a requirement. Ask each to name the local service team that will commission and test the equipment.
Most of the emirate's factories sit inside the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone, known as RAKEZ, which was formed in 2017 by merging the former RAK Free Trade Zone and the RAK Investment Authority. RAKEZ runs three industrial zones. Al Ghail is the heavy-manufacturing zone with the largest plots and a connection to the Etihad Rail freight facility. Al Hamra suits light and high-tech manufacturing and processing, and RAKEZ lists tenants there from tea blending to glass bottles and wiring harnesses. Al Hulaila is positioned for heavy industry beside Saqr Port, with land plots and warehouses on offer. RAKEZ lets investors choose a free zone or a non-free-zone licence in these zones, which matters if you plan to sell to the UAE mainland.
Saqr Port is the heart of the freight system. RAK Ports describes it as one of the largest bulk ports in the region, and trade reports put its handling at around 70 to 85 million tonnes a year, mostly limestone, aggregates, cement and clinker from local quarries, with a container terminal alongside. Ras Al Khaimah International Airport takes air freight. By road, the airport operator's published figures give roughly 60 km from Sharjah, about 110 km from Dubai city and about 250 km from Abu Dhabi city, so same-day delivery to Dubai is realistic while Abu Dhabi is a longer run. Etihad Rail's Al Ghail freight facility was announced in 2021 to move quarry material by train towards Abu Dhabi, and RAKEZ now describes Al Ghail as connected to the rail terminal.
The RAK Department of Economic Development licenses commercial and industrial activity on the mainland, while RAKEZ licenses companies inside its zones. RAKEZ tells manufacturers to obtain external clearances after licensing, naming environmental, Civil Defence and health authorities. RAK Municipality handles building permits outside the free zones, and a completion certificate from Civil Defence is needed for industrial and multi-storey buildings. For RAKEZ sites, RAKEZ itself pre-approves open yards with Civil Defence. Confirm which regime applies to your plot before ordering.
Quarrying, cement and construction materials are the emirate's historic base, and manufacturing is reported at more than a third of local GDP in a RAKEZ article. Food processing, pharmaceuticals, packaging, building products and automotive components follow. Large hospitality projects on Al Marjan Island, including the Wynn resort scheduled for spring 2027, add steady demand for fit-out and facilities supplies. Heavy oil and gas is not a local strength; for that, look to Abu Dhabi.
