Spray Foam Insulation Suppliers, UAE
Spray foam insulation in the UAE is two-component polyurethane foam sprayed on site to form a seamless rigid layer, mostly on flat concrete roofs, tanks and cold rooms. This page lists UAE spray foam suppliers and applicators and explains how roof foam is specified and protected from sun, which EN and ASTM standards apply, what checks to run on site, where Civil Defence fire rules limit it, and what drives cost.

What is spray foam insulation and where is it used in the UAE?
Spray foam insulation is a polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foam made on site: two liquid components are mixed at the spray gun, expand on the surface and cure within minutes into a rigid closed-cell layer bonded to the substrate. It is one of five product groups under thermal insulation suppliers in the UAE, and unlike the others it is bought as an applied service, not as a product off the shelf.
Its selling point in the UAE is the absence of joints. A villa or warehouse roof with many upstands, drains and AC plinths can be insulated in one continuous layer that follows every shape, which is hard to do with boards. The trade-off is that quality depends on the applicator, the weather on the day and the coating that protects the foam afterwards.
| Application | Typical UAE use | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| Coated roof foam | Flat concrete roofs on villas, schools, warehouses and labour accommodation, exposed to sun | Applied density, minimum thickness and tolerance, elastomeric coating type and dry film thickness, drainage falls |
| Foam under a protection layer | Roofs finished with screed and tiles or pavers for foot traffic | Compressive strength, separation layer, compatibility with the waterproofing, thickness at drains |
| Tank and vessel exteriors | Water tanks, chilled water buffer tanks, process vessels | Service temperature, adhesion to the primer, outer protection against UV and impact |
| Wall and soffit linings | Cold rooms, metal sheds, retrofit of existing buildings | Fire class and covering needed by the fire strategy, closed-cell content, thickness |
Spray foam is not always the right answer. Where boards are acceptable, factory-made PIR and PUR boards give a thickness and density that are controlled at the plant rather than by the operator. For inverted roofs under pavers, XPS insulation boards are a common alternative, and where non-combustible insulation is required, rock wool slabs are the usual choice. Roof foam is often specified with roof waterproofing systems, and complete build-ups are covered under roof insulation.
How do UAE sun, humidity and dust affect spray foam?
Sprayed polyurethane must be kept dry while it is applied and shielded from sunlight once it has cured. Most UAE roof foam failures trace back to one of three causes: moisture in the substrate or air during spraying, a coating that was too thin or has worn through, and ponding water on poorly sloped foam.
Moisture in the substrate and the air
Foam needs a clean, dry surface. Concrete roofs that have been washed, or that collect dew on humid coastal mornings in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, can trap moisture and spoil adhesion. One public specification, the US Veterans Affairs section on sprayed polyurethane foam roofing, requires a plastic sheet moisture test on concrete at the start of each day's work and each roof area, and says work must not proceed if moisture condenses under the sheet. Ask your applicator what substrate and weather limits their system allows and how they check them on site.
Sunlight and the protective coating
Bare polyurethane breaks down in UV, so roof foam needs a coating or a covering layer the same day. The same specification forbids leaving foam overnight without a base coat, calls for a two-coat silicone system with a dark base and a light top coat, and sets a total dry film thickness of at least 0.5 mm. A light top coat also reflects heat, which matters on UAE roofs. Plan for the coating to be inspected and renewed over the life of the roof.
Dust, wind and overspray
Wind carries overspray onto cars, facades and neighbouring plots, and dust settling between lifts weakens the bond. Spraying is normally done in thin lifts; the Veterans Affairs specification uses 13 mm lifts with no more than four hours between them, and requires a surface free of voids and blisters, with no ponding.
Which standards and approvals apply to spray foam insulation in the UAE?
As of 2026, spray foam in the UAE is governed by Civil Defence fire rules for the building, while the foam system's properties are declared to EN 14315-1 or ASTM C1029, depending on whether the specification follows European or American practice. The table lists the references buyers meet most often; confirm current editions and any circulars with the relevant emirate's authority.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority or body |
|---|---|---|
| EN 14315-1 | In situ sprayed rigid PUR and PIR foam for walls, ceilings, roofs and floors; a specification for the spray system before installation | CEN |
| ASTM C1029 | Spray-applied rigid cellular polyurethane insulation; Type III is called up for roofing in the specification cited below | ASTM International |
| ASTM D1622 and ASTM D6694 | In-place foam density, and liquid-applied silicone coatings over spray foam roofs | ASTM International |
| UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice | Combustible insulation in facades and other systems, which need third-party certification and listing | UAE Civil Defence, through each emirate's authority |
| Consultant and owner specifications | Density, thickness, coating, warranty and testing on the project | Project consultant |
A board certificate does not cover sprayed foam: BS EN 13165, the standard for factory-made polyurethane boards, excludes in situ products, and EN 14315-1 in turn excludes factory-made boards. Ask for documents that name the spray system itself. On fire, a 2018 Gulf News report quoted an insulation manager saying UAE authorities are very specific that facade insulation must be non-combustible, which keeps spray foam mostly on roofs, tanks and cold rooms. Our guide to Civil Defence product approval in the UAE explains how to check a listing.
Site quality checks worth copying
The Veterans Affairs specification sets a sampling plan that UAE consultants can adapt: two foam core samples for roofs up to 929 m2 and one more for each further 929 m2, tested for thickness, compressive strength, density and cell structure, plus six slit samples per 929 m2 to check the number of coats and coating thickness. It also gives an in-place density of 44.9 to 48.1 kg/m3 for Type III roofing foam.
How do you choose a spray foam supplier or applicator in the UAE?
Choose the applicator and the foam system together, because the chemicals come from a system house and the result depends on the crew. A good UAE applicator can show the system's test data, a coating that the foam maker accepts, and completed roofs you can visit.
- Which foam system is used, and does it have EN 14315-1 or ASTM C1029 data for the density proposed?
- What applied density, minimum thickness and thickness at drains will be guaranteed?
- Which coating, how many coats and what dry film thickness, and who warrants the foam and coating together?
- How is the rig calibrated, and what core and coating tests will be offered at handover?
- Does the fire documentation match the use, and is a protective layer needed indoors?

What affects the price of spray foam insulation in the UAE?
Spray foam is priced per square metre for a stated thickness, so area, thickness and the coating system drive most of the cost. Preparation and access can change the price as much as the foam itself.
- Thickness and density: each extra lift adds chemical and time; higher-density roofing foam costs more.
- Coating system: silicone, acrylic or polyurethane coatings differ in price, number of coats and service life.
- Preparation: removing old roofing, repairing concrete and priming add labour.
- Details: many upstands, drains, plinths and parapets slow the work.
- Access and protection: masking against overspray on occupied sites adds cost.
- Testing and warranty: core samples, coating checks and longer warranties are priced in.
Ask every bidder to state thickness, density, coating and dry film thickness so the quotes cover the same roof.
