Resins & Polymers Suppliers, UAE
Resins and polymers in the UAE are the liquid thermoset resins, curing agents and polymer emulsions that GRP fabricators, coating and adhesive makers, flooring contractors and construction product plants turn into finished goods. This page lists UAE resin suppliers and explains the main resin families, how summer heat cuts shelf life, the standards that apply to the products made from them as of 2026, and what moves price and delivery.

What are resins and polymers and which types do UAE buyers order?
In industrial chemical buying, "resins and polymers" means the reactive liquid resins and polymer dispersions that a factory cures or dries into a solid part, coating or bond. They sit in industrial chemicals for UAE manufacturers, while the pellets of polyethylene, polypropylene and PVC that moulders and extruders melt are a separate purchase covered under plastic raw materials in the UAE. The main UAE users are GRP pipe, tank and panel makers, paint and adhesive formulators, resin flooring applicators and precast and construction chemical plants in Dubai Industrial City, Sharjah, Ajman and the Abu Dhabi industrial areas.
| Resin family | Typical UAE use | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| Unsaturated polyester, orthophthalic | General purpose GRP: panels, water tank sections, boat and cooling tower parts | Viscosity, gel time with your catalyst, styrene content, preaccelerated or not, thixotropy |
| Unsaturated polyester, isophthalic | GRP pipes, water tanks and gelcoats needing better water and chemical resistance | As above, plus any potable water approval of the finished product |
| Vinyl ester | Chemical process tanks, scrubbers, ducts and corrosion resistant linings | Resin grade by chemical resistance guide, temperature limit, cure system |
| Epoxy resins and hardeners | Flooring, protective coatings, adhesives, composites and grouts | Epoxy equivalent weight, hardener type (amine, polyamide, anhydride), pot life at site temperature |
| Acrylic, styrene acrylic and vinyl emulsions | Water based paints, primers, tile adhesives and waterproofing coatings | Solids content, glass transition temperature, minimum film forming temperature, in-can preservative |
| Alkyd, phenolic and polyurethane systems | Industrial paints, foundry binders, insulation foams and sealants | Oil length or type, free monomer content, isocyanate handling for PU |
Resin users buy alongside it: solvents for thinning and equipment cleaning, and, for water based emulsions, in-can biocides and preservatives that stop spoilage in hot warehouses. Finished goods made from these resins are listed under composites and FRP products, epoxy coatings and epoxy flooring systems.
How does UAE summer heat affect resin storage and use?
Heat is the main reason resin goes off before it is used in the UAE. Polyester and vinyl ester resins slowly gel in the drum, emulsions can spoil or skin, and every reactive system cures faster on a hot shop floor, which shortens working time.
Shelf life is quoted at mild temperatures
Resin data sheets assume cool, dark storage. A Polynt technical data sheet for a general purpose orthophthalic polyester (Norsodyne H 13212 TAE) says to store it in the shade, out of direct sunlight, below 25°C, opening the container only just before use, and gives a shelf life of six months at 23°C in the dark, adding that higher temperatures reduce it. An unshaded yard in Jebel Ali or Mussafah in August is far above that, so a drum can lose months of life in weeks. Put a maximum age at delivery on the order, keep stock in an air conditioned or at least shaded and ventilated store, and buy in smaller lots through summer.
Gel time and pot life on site
Gel times on data sheets are measured at about 23°C with a set catalyst level. In a hot UAE workshop the same resin gels sooner, so fabricators adjust catalyst and accelerator, change to a summer grade, or work in the cooler hours. Ask the supplier for gel time curves at higher temperatures, and for epoxy flooring ask for pot life and recoat windows at 35°C and above, not only at 20°C.
Flammable vapour and catalysts
Styrene in polyester and vinyl ester resins is flammable, and the methyl ethyl ketone peroxide used to cure them is an organic peroxide with its own storage rules. Store them apart, keep peroxides cool and away from accelerators, and check the civil defence approval of your store before holding large stocks.
Humidity and amine blush
Coastal humidity can cause amine blush on epoxy floors and coatings and affects the cure of some polyurethanes. Follow the dew point limits on the data sheet and measure substrate temperature before application.
Which standards and approvals apply to resins and polymers in the UAE?
Liquid resins have no UAE product certificate of their own as of 2026; the rules that bite are the chemical hazard and storage rules for the resin, and the product standards that the finished GRP part, coating or adhesive must meet.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority or source |
|---|---|---|
| Safety data sheet, labels and dangerous goods transport | Styrene based resins, solvent borne resins, organic peroxide catalysts | See the industrial chemicals and sector pages |
| Hazardous material storage approval | Stores of flammable resins and peroxides | Civil defence authority of the emirate, free zone EHS teams |
| ASTM D3299 | Filament wound GRP tanks made from polyester or vinyl ester resin for chemicals at atmospheric pressure | ASTM, called up in project specifications |
| Owner and consultant approvals | Resins in GRP pipe, tanks, linings and flooring for ADNOC, utilities and government projects | Project owner and engineer |
| Drinking water approval of the finished product | GRP tanks and linings in contact with drinking water | The water authority or utility that approves the installation |
ASTM D3299 shows how a resin choice flows into a product standard: it covers filament wound tanks made with commercial grade polyester or vinyl ester resin for aggressive chemicals, and excludes pressure vessels and liquids heated above their flash point. If you make GRP products to such a standard, buy resin grades whose data sheets and chemical resistance guides the engineer will accept, and keep the batch certificates for the quality file.
Who supplies resins and polymers in the UAE?
UAE resin supply comes from international producers through authorised distributors with local stock, regional resin plants, and traders. For anything going into a specified product, such as a pipe, tank or approved flooring system, buy from the producer or its authorised distributor so batch traceability holds.
- Authorised distributor: holds drums and IBCs in Jebel Ali, Sharjah or Abu Dhabi, can supply small lots, and passes on technical support and certificates of analysis.
- Producer direct: suits large GRP plants buying full containers or bulk tankers on contract.
- Trader: useful for one-off needs, but ask for the producer's name, the batch number and the manufacture date before accepting stock.
Thermoplastic polymers are made in the UAE at scale: Borouge, the ADNOC and Borealis polyolefins producer runs an integrated polyolefin complex in Ruwais, and its grades feed pipe and packaging converters. For liquid thermoset resins, ask suppliers whether a grade is made in the region or imported. Our guide to sourcing industrial suppliers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia explains company checks, and you can post your resin requirement to collect offers on the same grade.
What affects the price and lead time of resins and polymers in the UAE?
Resin prices follow their petrochemical feedstocks, such as styrene, phthalic anhydride, bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin, then grade, pack size and freight. Quotes are usually valid for a short period, so compare on the same day and the same delivery terms.
- Feedstock markets: styrene and epoxy feedstock prices move often and pass through quickly.
- Grade: vinyl ester, fire retardant, low styrene emission and food or water contact grades cost more than general purpose resin.
- Pack and storage: drums suit small shops; IBCs and tankers cut cost but only if you can use the resin within its shelf life.
- Dangerous goods freight: flammable resins and peroxides cost more to ship and some vessels limit how much they carry.
Common polyester and epoxy grades are stocked by UAE distributors and delivered within days. Specialty vinyl esters, fire retardant grades and large orders are often imported, taking several weeks through Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port, and summer heat limits how far ahead you can stock.
