Perimeter fencing and barriers in the UAE are the security fences, gates, boom barriers, bollards and road blockers that keep people and vehicles out of industrial plots, utilities, schools, compounds and critical sites. This page explains the main types, the LPS 1175 forced-entry and ISO 22343 vehicle impact ratings that UAE specifications cite as of 2026, how salt air and blowing sand affect fences and gate automation, who supplies them and what drives cost.

Perimeter fencing and barriers are the physical outer layer of site security: fences and walls that delay people, gates and turnstiles that control where they enter, and bollards, boom barriers and road blockers that stop vehicles. They are the physical part of the security systems and services family for UAE sites, bought for factory plots in KIZAD, Mussafah, JAFZA and Dubai Industrial City, utility substations and pumping stations, schools, villa compounds, embassies, data centres and logistics yards near Jebel Ali and Khalifa Port.
| Type | Typical UAE use | Key specification |
|---|---|---|
| Welded mesh panel fencing (including tight anti-climb mesh) | Industrial plots, warehouses, utilities, schools | Height, mesh aperture and wire gauge, post and fixing design, finish, forced-entry rating where required |
| Palisade fencing | Substations, yards, pumping stations | Pale profile and spacing, rail fixings, head shape, galvanising |
| Chain link fencing | Large low-risk boundaries, temporary site lines | Wire gauge, coating, tension wires, topping |
| Electric pulse fencing and fence-mounted detection | Critical infrastructure, high-value storage | Zoning, alarm interface, warning signs, monitoring |
| Sliding, swing and cantilever gates with operators | Vehicle entrances to plots and compounds | Leaf size, motor duty cycle, safety edges and photocells, manual release |
| Boom barriers | Car parks, gatehouses, staff entrances | Boom length, opening time, cycles per day, link to access control and number plate readers |
| Fixed and automatic bollards, road blockers, wedge barriers | Building frontages, embassies, hotels, critical entrances where vehicle attack is credible | Impact rating to ISO 22343-1 (or legacy PAS 68 or IWA 14-1), foundation depth, operating speed |
Barriers work with the electronic layer. Fence lines are usually watched by cameras from CCTV installation services, fence-mounted sensors report through intruder alarm systems, and pedestrian gates use turnstiles with biometric access readers. For traffic safety rather than security, see road guardrails and crash barriers; for short-term site hoarding, temporary fencing rental.
UAE specifications rate fences and gates for resistance to people with tools under LPS 1175, and vehicle barriers for resistance to a vehicle impact under ISO 22343-1, which replaced PAS 68 and IWA 14-1 in 2023. Material standards cover the fence itself and its corrosion protection. Checked as of 2026; your consultant or the site owner's security specification sets the level.
| Standard or requirement | What it covers | Issued by |
|---|---|---|
| LPS 1175 | Forced-entry resistance of fences, gates and other products, rated by tool category (A to H) and delay time (1 to 20 minutes), for example C5 | Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) |
| ISO 22343-1:2023 | Impact test and rating of vehicle security barriers; supersedes IWA 14-1 and PAS 68, whose existing test certificates remain acceptable | ISO |
| ISO 22343-2:2023 | Selection, installation and use of vehicle security barriers; supersedes IWA 14-2 and PAS 69 | ISO |
| PAS 170-1:2017 | Low-speed impact test for single bollards in car parks and retail frontages | BSI |
| BS 1722-14 | Open mesh steel panel fences | BSI |
| BS EN ISO 1461 and BS 1722-16 | Hot-dip galvanising of steel, and polyester powder coating of fence components | ISO and BSI |
| Preventive System Manual | Technical standards for planning and implementing security systems at vital sectors, major compounds and events in Dubai | SIRA |
Two checks avoid most disappointments. First, a rating belongs to a tested product with a tested foundation and installation method; ISO 22343-1, PAS 68 and IWA 14 barriers must be installed in line with the associated standard, so ask for the test certificate and the foundation drawing that match what will be built. Second, LPS 1175 ratings changed format: older SR1 to SR8 labels map to the newer letter and minutes ratings (SR1 is A1), so make sure bids are comparing the same thing.
Boundary walls and fences on a plot also need the landlord's or municipality's approval for height and position, and vital sites in Dubai follow SIRA's Preventive System Manual. Gate operators and barriers are electrical products, so check MoIAT conformity where a model falls under a regulated category; the guide to ECAS and EQM product conformity explains how.
In the UAE the perimeter is the most exposed part of a site's security, so finish, foundations and automation must be chosen for corrosion, drifting sand and heat. A fence that rusts at the base or a gate motor that trips on a summer afternoon is a gap in the line.
UAE perimeter projects are supplied by fence fabricators and installers who make or import panels and posts, distributors of gate and barrier automation brands, and specialist suppliers of crash-rated bollards and road blockers, most of which are imported against a project order. The installer matters because rated performance depends on the foundation and installation.
For gate and barrier automation, FAAC makes gate operators, road barriers and automatic bollards; CAME makes gate operators, road barriers, bollards and turnstiles; BFT makes sliding and swing gate operators, boom barriers and automatic bollards; and Nice makes gate operators and road barriers. For high-security fences, Gallagher makes monitored pulse fencing and perimeter intrusion detection.

The guide to sourcing suppliers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia covers broader checks. To get prices from several installers on one boundary drawing, post your perimeter fencing requirement.
Price follows the length and height of the line, the security rating, the foundations and the number of automated entrances, with civil works often the biggest share.
Standard mesh fencing and gate automation are usually available from UAE stock or short fabrication runs. Rated bollards and road blockers are commonly made to order and shipped through Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port, and their foundations need design approval and curing time, so they often set the programme.
