Industrial refrigeration systems in the UAE are the central ammonia, CO2 or HFC plants that cool large cold stores, food factories and logistics hubs from Jebel Ali to KIZAD. This page lists UAE suppliers and contractors and explains how to choose a refrigerant and condenser for summer heat, which safety standards and approvals apply, and what sets price and delivery time for a new or extended plant.
The anchor is Hamriyah Free Zone, where Al Islami Foods opened a 10,000 square metre factory, reported in November 2017, expected to raise its halal processed meat output to 18,000 tonnes a year. Other makers operate in the Sharjah Industrial Area and Al Sajaa. Gulf News has reported a packaging complex planned at Al Sajaa Industrial City, and Sharjah Update has described a Sharjah food industries hub launched in 2017. Dates in these reports are old, so confirm what is operating today. This is the base for food and beverage processing equipment demand.
Meat and ready-meal plants need food processing equipment, slicers, mixers and industrial refrigeration. Packaged-food makers add filling and sealing machines, vacuum packers, date coding and metal detectors. Distributors in the industrial districts buy cold rooms and refrigerated trucks to hold chilled and frozen stock. Our packaging machinery buying guide helps with line selection.
Sharjah Municipality lists food control among its services, so food premises and many products are inspected there. All food equipment must be cleanable and suit the product, and halal production has its own requirements: ask whether a line is dedicated to halal and whether the maker follows the UAE halal scheme. Do not buy second-hand equipment from a plant that handled non-halal products without checking with your halal certifier. Free zone factories may have additional requirements from the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority.
Ask for stainless steel grade, hygienic design drawings, spare parts stocked in the UAE and a named service technician. Hot summers stress cooling, so state the ambient design temperature. Imports arrive through the Sharjah or Khorfakkan terminals or Jebel Ali, and refrigerated lines need to be commissioned before trial production. Post a requirement with product, hourly output and the available floor area.
Sharjah's industry sits in three places. The first is the Sharjah Industrial Area inside the city, a run of numbered districts mostly along the Dubai border. Wikipedia lists 18 of them plus Al Sajaa, and describes workshops, warehouses, scrap yards, auto parts dealers, building materials firms, engineering contractors and the head office of a paint maker.
The second is Al Sajaa, further out near the airport and Al Hamriyah Port. A 2018 Gulf News report described the Al Sajaa Industrial Oasis, about 14 million square feet backed by Sharjah Asset Management Holding, as land for firms leaving the inner-city areas. It is not a free zone. Sajaa is also where the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) runs a gas and condensate processing complex with a hub for pipelines to the Northern Emirates.
The third is the free zones. Hamriyah Free Zone was set up in 1995, covers about 24 square kilometres according to Wikipedia, has its own deep-water port, and holds an LPG storage terminal with a marine berth. SAIF Zone, beside Sharjah International Airport, lists offices, purpose-built warehouses, plots from 2,500 square metres for custom factories or warehouses, and a jewellery manufacturing park. The Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park, a free zone, sits in University City.
Sharjah has ports on two coasts. Gulftainer lists the Sharjah Container Terminal, the Khorfakkan Commercial Terminal on the east coast, the Sharjah Dry Port and the Sajaa Dry Port among the facilities it manages. Hamriyah's port is described as 14 metres deep. By road, the E311 and E611 connect to Dubai, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah, and the E88 Al Dhaid Road runs across to Fujairah. Many buyers also clear cargo at Jebel Ali in Dubai, so ask your forwarder which gate suits your load.
The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) licenses businesses and has an industrial-area branch; its page says factories also need approval from Sharjah Municipality and the environmental authorities. Sharjah Municipality handles building permits, product approvals and food control. Sharjah Civil Defence approves plans, issues hazardous materials permits and compliance certificates, and ran a large inspection campaign in the industrial zones in the first half of 2025. The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) supplies power, water and piped natural gas. Companies inside a free zone deal with that zone's own authority first.
Building materials, paints, engineering workshops, auto parts and general trading dominate the inner industrial districts. Food processing has a foothold in Hamriyah, where a halal processed meat factory was reported in 2017. Gas, condensate and LPG handling drive oilfield and process-equipment demand at Sajaa and Hamriyah. Farming is small, centred on Al Dhaid. Sharjah is not a mining or heavy-steel city, so those buyers look to Abu Dhabi or the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
