UAE transformer manufacturing since 1979
Importing distribution transformers from overseas can mean quoting lead times in months, which is why many UAE contractors turn to Federal Transformers Company, an Abu Dhabi manufacturer that has built transformers domestically since 1979. FTC produces oil-immersed and cast-resin distribution transformers, packaged substations, and unit substations approved by ADDC, DEWA, and SEWA for direct connection to Emirati utility networks. Sourcing locally shortens delivery timelines and keeps after-sales support close to site.

Federal Transformers Company, known in the market as FTC, has manufactured transformers in Abu Dhabi since 1979, making it one of the longest-established transformer producers in the UAE. As a domestic manufacturer rather than an importer, the company builds distribution transformers and packaged substations to the technical specifications and climate requirements of the local utilities it supplies, and has accumulated decades of installed base across Emirati infrastructure, utility, and building projects.
FTC's local manufacturing base is central to its position in the market: rather than shipping finished units from overseas, the company produces standard and custom-engineered transformers within the UAE, which typically translates into shorter delivery timelines and closer after-sales contact for contractors and utility clients working to tight project schedules.
FTC's manufacturing scope spans the following product lines commonly specified by UAE buyers:
These product lines are listed within the distribution transformers category on ListGCC alongside other UAE-approved manufacturers.
Construction and building developments across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the Northern Emirates make up a significant share of FTC's project base, with packaged substations frequently specified for residential towers, commercial developments, and mixed-use masterplans that need compact, quick-to-install power infrastructure. Utility distribution networks operated by ADDC, DEWA, and SEWA also draw on FTC's standard transformer ratings to extend and reinforce coverage as demand grows.
Industrial facilities, including manufacturing plants and logistics parks, specify FTC transformers where high summer ambient temperatures demand equipment engineered for local conditions rather than generic export ratings. Coastal sites exposed to humid, salt-laden air and inland locations with sulphate-rich groundwater both influence the enclosure and cooling specification that project engineers request when ordering from FTC.
Because FTC manufactures within the UAE, most buyers can approach the company directly or through its authorised sales channels rather than relying on a general import trader, which simplifies warranty handling and technical support. Direct or authorised sourcing also gives buyers access to FTC's utility approval documentation, useful when a project requires proof of ADDC, DEWA, or SEWA acceptance before connection.
Lead times for standard distribution ratings are typically shorter than for imported equivalents, since production happens locally, though custom-engineered special-purpose transformers still require dedicated build time. Buyers should confirm ESMA / Emirates Conformity documentation, factory test reports, and In-Country Value credentials in writing, and specify site ambient temperature and installation type clearly when requesting a quote.
ListGCC lets UAE buyers request quotes from multiple FTC-focused distributors and industrial suppliers at once, rather than following up with each contact individually. Verified supplier badges help procurement teams quickly narrow down which listed suppliers can confirm authorised status and current stock or production capacity.
Comparing several quotes side by side makes it easier to weigh price against lead time and after-sales terms, which matters most for contractors working against fixed project handover dates. That comparison also reduces the risk of committing to a single supplier before checking whether a better-timed offer exists elsewhere, and it gives project teams a documented record of pricing to reference during internal budget approvals.
