Tell us about alloy steel in Abu Dhabi, UAE and receive competitive quotes from verified suppliers — free, fast, and no obligation.
Alloy steel in the UAE is mainly chromium-molybdenum pipe, plate and forgings (P11, P22, P91) for hot refinery, power and water plant service, plus A193 B7 bolting, tool steel and spring steel. This page lists UAE alloy steel suppliers and explains grade choice for high temperature and hydrogen, heat treatment and hardness limits, the codes that apply, and what moves price and delivery.
Abu Dhabi has the UAE's largest integrated steel producer, Emirates Steel Arkan, which trade press places at Mussafah, with about 80 percent of finished products sold on the domestic market. Fabricators cluster around it and the Mussafah Channel, and KEZAD lists metals among its sectors beside Khalifa Port. For product and supplier pages see the metals and fabrication sector.
The biggest line is steel products: rebar, sections and plate for construction, plus carbon steel pipes and stainless steel pipes and tubes for plants. Oil and gas and water projects require pipe fittings and flanges; read the standards guide before you specify. Structural steel fabrication, sheet metal and tank fabrication shops operate across Mussafah and ICAD, and welding services are available for site and workshop work.
The Mussafah Channel is described in marine sources as a 53 km waterway with a maximum depth of nine metres, serving shipyards such as ADSB and Ali and Sons Marine Engineering Factory in ICAD II. Ship repair and rig upgrades create steady work for plate cutting, machining, coating and heat treatment, so shops here are often used to marine and offshore specifications.
Ask for mill test certificates, heat numbers and the grade standard, and check that imported steel carries the conformity papers required in the UAE; confirm the current rule with the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council or the Ministry of Industry. For fabricators, ask for welder qualifications and inspection records. Galvanizing and coating capacity can be a bottleneck, so book it before cutting begins. Surface treatment is the other planning point. Hot dip galvanizing, powder coating and blasting capacity is limited compared with cutting and welding capacity, and the hot Abu Dhabi summer affects coating application on open yards, so ask when a coating slot is actually available. Send your drawings and grades through post a requirement for comparable quotes.
Abu Dhabi's industry sits on the mainland, not on the island. The long-established base is Mussafah, an industrial district south-west of the city that began as a small area in the 1970s and grew with government incentives and the building boom of the 2000s. Inside it, the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi, known as ICAD, is operated by KEZAD Group. KEZAD describes itself as the UAE's largest operator of fully integrated economic zones, with a 550 sq km land bank and more than 1,750 companies.
The newer zones lie along the E11 highway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. KEZAD Al Ma'mourah offers serviced land, pre-built warehouses and small industrial units next to Khalifa Port, and its Metal Park is planned at 450,000 sqm. KEZAD also runs a zone in Al Ain, inland toward the Omani border. Further west, Ruwais is a separate story: it is the oil, gas and petrochemical complex of the Al Dhafra region, where the TA'ZIZ chemicals zone is being built, with production reported on track for 2027 in a November 2024 report. Masdar City is different again, a cleantech and research free zone close to the airport.
Khalifa Port is the main gateway for containers and vehicles. AD Ports Group calls it the region's first semi-automated port and lists more than 25 shipping lines and links to more than 70 ports. A dedicated roll-on roll-off terminal serves vehicle imports. The group counts five international airports within reach, including Zayed International, Al Maktoum International in Dubai and Al Ain International. Etihad Rail has carried bulk and industrial cargo since 2023, and AD Ports has reported a Fujairah to ICAD rail route with a customs-enabled inland gateway. Road links to Dubai on the E11 are short, but confirm transit times with your forwarder.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport sets building policy, including the Estidama Pearl rating that is required for a building permit. The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, ADAFSA, regulates food safety and runs a veterinary quarantine at Khalifa Port. The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre supervises the OSHAD safety framework, and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority requires approval and a licence for fire and safety products. Free zone tenants deal with KEZAD Group or Masdar City Free Zone, while mainland firms are licensed through the Department of Economic Development.
Oil, gas and petrochemicals drive the largest orders, followed by metals, building materials, food logistics, vehicles and utilities. Government-linked projects set much of the pace, so supplier prequalification and local approvals matter more here than a quick trade counter sale.
