Industrial tapes are backing materials coated with adhesive or made of a sealing film, sold in rolls to seal threads, join ducts, wrap pipes, insulate wires, mask surfaces and bond parts. They form part of lubrication and maintenance supplies in the UAE because maintenance stores reorder them every month.

PTFE thread seal tape fills the gap between male and female pipe threads and lets the joint be tightened and, usually, undone later. It suits water, air and many chemicals, while gas and hot water joints call for tape made to a gas standard. Wrap it in the direction of tightening so it does not unravel, and keep it off the first thread so loose pieces do not enter the line.
EN 751-3 covers unsintered PTFE tapes and strings for metallic threaded joints in contact with first, second and third family gases and hot water. Colour is a market convention, with yellow often sold as gas tape and white as water tape, so rely on the marking and certificate on the roll, not the colour. For oil, fuel and solvent lines check that the tape is rated for the medium.
UAE sun and heat soften adhesives and age backings, while humidity and salt air attack edges and surfaces. A tape that holds in a store may creep, lift or leave residue on a roof or cladding in August.
Rubber-based adhesives soften in heat; acrylic adhesives generally hold better at high temperature and UV, but the data sheet is the check. Ask for the service temperature range and the temperature at which the tape was applied, since most adhesives need a minimum application temperature and clean, dry, dust-free surfaces.
Outdoor tapes need UV-stable backings. Masking tape left on a painted surface in the sun often leaves residue that is hard to remove, so set a removal limit with the maker. On duct work outside, use foil tape with a suitable adhesive and consider weather protection over the joint.
On buried pipe and coastal steel, wrapping tape protects against moisture and chlorides when applied over a clean, primed surface with proper overlap. Dust and sand under a tape cause adhesion failure, so wipe surfaces first. Spares and tooling exposed to salt may also need a film from rust preventives and penetrants.
As of 2026 there is no UAE product certificate specific to industrial tapes; buyers specify standards in the purchase order, and fire and electrical projects add their own requirements. These are the common references, to be confirmed with your consultant or authority.
