Bearings and power transmission in Saudi Arabia is the family of bearings, belts, chains, couplings, gearboxes, seals and gaskets that keep pumps, conveyors, kilns, cranes and process trains turning in refineries, mines, cement plants and utilities. This page lists Saudi suppliers and covers the product types, how dust and heat cut service life, the standards and SASO rules that apply as of 2026, counterfeit risk, and what sets price and delivery.

Bearings and power transmission products support rotating shafts and carry torque from a motor to the machine, and they include the seals and gaskets that keep fluids in. ListGCC lists them under industrial equipment and MRO in Saudi Arabia. The heaviest users are Eastern Province refineries and petrochemical plants in Jubail, mining and phosphate operations in the north, cement plants, desalination and water utilities, ports and food factories in Riyadh and Jeddah.
| Group | Where Saudi buyers use it | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| Bearings: ball bearings, spherical, cylindrical and tapered roller bearings, thrust bearings | Motors, pumps, fans, crushers, kiln and mill drives | Complete designation with suffixes, internal clearance, load rating and ISO 281 life |
| Pillow blocks and slewing bearings | Conveyors in mines and cement plants; cranes at Dammam, Jubail and Jeddah ports | Seal type for dust; for slewing rings, gearing, bolt pattern and crane maker approval |
| Belts and chains: V and timing belts, roller chain, conveyor chain, sprockets and pulleys | Fans, bucket elevators, drag conveyors, packaging and bottling lines | Section or pitch, matched lengths, heat and oil resistance, chain lubrication in dust |
| Couplings and clutches: flexible couplings, rigid couplings, fluid couplings for soft starts, clutches | Pump and compressor trains, long conveyors, crushers | Rated and peak torque, misalignment, bores, spacer length |
| Gears and gearboxes: helical, bevel, worm, planetary | Conveyors, mixers, mill and kiln drives, water treatment, cooling towers | Ratio, torque, service factor, thermal rating at Saudi summer ambient |
| Seals and gaskets: mechanical seals, hydraulic seals, O-rings and oil seals, spiral wound and sheet gaskets | Process pumps, hydraulic cylinders on mining and construction plant, flanged piping | Seal plan and materials for the fluid, elastomer grade, gasket type matched to the flange |
The family links closely to its neighbours. Seals and bearings go into centrifugal pumps, couplings and belts drive air compressors and blowers, hydraulic seals serve hydraulic cylinders and pumps, and grease and gear oil come from lubrication suppliers.
In Saudi Arabia, dust and heat cause more drive train failures than overload does. Abrasive dust in mines, cement plants and desert sites gets into bearings and chains, high summer temperatures shorten grease and oil life and age rubber parts, and humid coastal air in Jubail, Dammam and Jeddah adds corrosion and water in housings.
ISO 281 sets out the basic rating life of a rolling bearing at 90% reliability and a modified life that adjusts for lubrication and contamination; it excludes wear, corrosion and electrical erosion. A bearing on a dusty Saudi conveyor will not reach its catalogue life unless it is well sealed. Specify sealed bearings or multi-lip, labyrinth or taconite housing seals, grease purging intervals suited to dust, and dry-film or sealed chains on conveyors where wet lubricant traps sand.
Gear units on outdoor conveyors and water treatment drives in the interior and the Eastern Province can exceed their thermal capacity in summer. Tell the supplier the maximum ambient, the sun exposure and the duty, then ask for the thermal rating, oil viscosity grade and any fan, cooler or sunshade needed. Check the temperature limits of belts, O-rings and lip seals for the conditions inside enclosures.
Red Sea and Gulf seawater intakes, desalination plants and sour hydrocarbon services need seal faces, metal parts and elastomers chosen for the fluid. Ask the seal maker for a written material selection for the actual fluid, pressure and temperature rather than a catalogue default.
Saudi buyers specify bearings, gear units, seals and gaskets to international standards, while SASO regulations apply mainly to the electric motors on geared motors and to imports under its technical regulations through SABER. The table reflects sources we checked in October 2026.
| Standard or rule | What it covers | Body |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 281:2007 | Rolling bearing load ratings and rating life | ISO; listed as under revision |
| API 613, 6th edition (2021) | Special-purpose helical gear units in continuous service without an installed spare; general-purpose units under API 677 | API, via Aramco or EPC specifications |
| API 682, 4th edition | Pump seal systems: Arrangement 1 single seals, Arrangement 2 with leakage capture, Arrangement 3 with pressurised barrier fluid | API |
| ASME B16.20-2023 | Metallic gaskets for ASME B16.5, B16.47 and API 6A flanges | ASME |
| SASO 2893/2018 | Minimum efficiency (IE3) for single-speed three-phase cage induction motors, including those on geared motors | SASO |
| SABER certificates | Imports of products under SASO technical regulations | SASO |
On Aramco, SABIC and other process plant work, pump seal systems are normally specified to API 682 and special-purpose gear units to API 613, with the owner specification and approved manufacturer list on top. API 613 does not cover gears built into integrally geared compressors, which come under API 617 or API 672. The 4th edition is the one we found in current technical literature; confirm whether a newer edition exists and follow the one your specification names.
The motor on a geared motor unit is a three-phase induction motor in most cases, and SASO 2893/2018 sets an IE3 minimum for those according to the IEA. The Saudi importer registers regulated products on SABER and obtains the product and shipment certificates; ask your distributor which certificates it holds. The SASO and SABER certificates guide explains the process.
Spiral wound and ring-joint gaskets must match the flange standard, class and facing given in the piping class. The flanges and fittings standards guide sets out how they are specified.
Saudi buyers source bearings, gear units and seals from manufacturers' Saudi offices, authorised distributors with stock in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, and general traders. Use the authorised channel for anything critical, because counterfeit bearings imitate genuine brands closely and, according to the World Bearing Association, often need an expert to spot.
Brands carried on ListGCC include bearing makers SKF, FAG and INA (Schaeffler), Timken, NSK, NTN and Koyo; gear unit makers SEW-EURODRIVE, NORD Drivesystems, Flender, Bonfiglioli and Sumitomo Drive Technologies; and mechanical seal makers John Crane, EagleBurgmann, AESSEAL, Flowserve and Chesterton, the last known for split seals.
The World Bearing Association was set up in 2006 by the bearing manufacturers' associations of the United States, Europe and Japan, and it tells buyers who suspect a fake to contact the brand and the authorities. Ask for an authorisation letter naming the distributor, check it with the brand directly, and keep failed parts and packaging for investigation. The supplier sourcing guide covers these checks, and you can post a requirement to price a spares list across several Saudi suppliers.
Local repair is an option for big items. Gearbox rebuilds, seal refurbishment and bearing failure analysis can be faster than importing a new unit, so ask suppliers what workshop capacity they have in the Kingdom.
For shelf items such as standard bearings, belts and O-rings, price and lead time come down to brand, channel and local stock. For gear units, large bearings and engineered seals, the specification, testing and factory slot set both, followed by shipping and SABER clearance.
Ask suppliers for Saudi stock by part number and, for imports, the factory lead time and port of entry, whether King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, Jubail Commercial Port or Jeddah Islamic Port. For critical machines, hold the seal, bearings and coupling elements as site spares rather than waiting for an import.
