Gear Pumps Suppliers, UAE

Gear pumps in the UAE are rotary positive displacement pumps that move oils, fuel oil, resins and other viscous liquids at steady flow. This page helps UAE buyers compare internal and external gear types, give the supplier the right viscosity data, protect the pump and check API 676, with links to UAE suppliers.

What are gear pumps and which types are used in the UAE?

A gear pump moves liquid by carrying it in the spaces between meshing gear teeth and squeezing it out at the discharge, so it delivers a steady flow of oils, resins and other viscous liquids. It is one of five designs on the positive displacement pumps page for the UAE. Beside diaphragm and peristaltic designs, the gear pump is the one built for clean, lubricating liquids that get thicker, not thinner, as they cool.

TypeHow it worksTypical UAE duty
External gear pumpTwo gears of equal size mesh side by sideLube oil, hydraulic and fuel transfer, higher pressures and speeds
Internal gear pumpA rotor gear turns inside a larger internal gear with a crescent between themHeavy fuel oil, bitumen, resins, paints, thick liquids at lower speed
Lobe and screw variantsRelated rotary designs with lobes or screws instead of gearsFood, sludge and heavier oil duties; ask the supplier which suits

Do not confuse these process gear pumps with gear pumps that power machinery: those are sold as hydraulic pumps. Gear pumps also appear inside oil skids and lubrication systems.

How does viscosity affect a gear pump?

Viscosity sets the speed, power and slip of a gear pump: thick liquids need slower speed and more power, and thin liquids leak back across the gear clearances, so delivered flow drops. A gear pump is not a good fit for water-thin liquids that do not lubricate.

  • Give the viscosity range. State the minimum and maximum viscosity at the lowest and highest temperatures the pump will see. UAE summer ambient raises oil temperature and lowers viscosity, while a cold start on thick oil needs a lot of torque.
  • Select speed accordingly. Slow the pump down for thick liquids so the gears can fill; running too fast starves the suction and cavitates.
  • Heat the line if needed. Bitumen and heavy fuel need jacketed casings or heat tracing to keep the liquid pumpable.

Maker ranges are very wide: one large external gear series is rated by its maker from 0.1 to 1,000,000 cSt, from minus 84 to plus 232 degrees Celsius, with flows to 45 cubic metres per hour and pressures to 170 bar. Those are catalogue envelopes for the whole series; the figures for a single model and material combination are narrower, so confirm them on the data sheet.

What protects a gear pump from damage in UAE service?

A gear pump needs a relief valve on the discharge, clean liquid and protection from running dry. The pump keeps pushing against a closed valve, and the gears and bearings depend on the pumped liquid for lubrication.

  • Relief valve. Many gear pumps offer an integral relief valve; check whether it is for protection only or for continuous bypass. Pipe the outlet back to the supply tank. See safety relief valves for the external option.
  • Strainer. Fit a suction strainer, because grit scores the gears and casing. Gear pumps are not made for abrasive slurries; use a progressive cavity pump or peristaltic pump there.
  • Seals. Choose mechanical seals, packing or magnetic drive for the liquid and the leak tolerance. Dust and heat age elastomer seals quickly outdoors.
  • Dry run. Add a low-level switch on the supply tank.

For tank-to-tank movement of thin liquids, a diaphragm pump is often simpler. Pressure injection at higher heads suits piston pumps.

Which standards and approvals apply to gear pumps in the UAE?

Oil and gas buyers in the UAE specify rotary gear pumps against API 676, while industrial buyers mostly accept the maker standard and test certificate. Certification touches the electric motor and instruments rather than the pump. This was checked as of 2026; confirm the edition named in your ADNOC or EPC specification.

Who supplies gear pumps in the UAE?

Gear pumps reach UAE buyers through pump distributors, hydraulic specialists and oil system packagers in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. ListGCC brand pages include Bosch Rexroth and Parker Hannifin, which make hydraulic gear pumps for machinery. Process transfer gear pumps for fuel oil, resins and bitumen are carried by specialist rotary pump distributors listed in the supplier directory.

  • Manufacturer or packager. For API 676 pumps and engineered skids.
  • Authorised distributor. For standard industrial gear pumps and spares.
  • Stockist. For gear sets, bushings, seals and relief valve springs.

What drives the price and lead time of gear pumps in the UAE?

Price follows size, materials, seal type, jacketing and standard compliance; we do not publish prices. Cast iron catalogue pumps are usually stocked locally; stainless, magnetic drive, jacketed and API 676 pumps are made to order. Spares such as gear sets, seals and bearings should be quoted with the pump.

Frequently Asked Questions — Gear Pumps

What liquids are gear pumps best for?
Gear pumps are best for clean, lubricating liquids such as lube oil, fuel oil, hydraulic oil, resins and paints, especially thick ones. They are a poor fit for abrasive slurries and water-thin liquids that do not lubricate the gears.
What is the difference between an internal and an external gear pump?
An external gear pump uses two gears side by side and suits higher pressure and speed. An internal gear pump runs a rotor inside a larger gear and suits thick liquids at lower speed. Choose by viscosity, pressure and temperature.
Does a gear pump need a relief valve?
Yes. A gear pump keeps pushing against a closed valve until something fails, so fit a relief valve on the discharge and pipe its outlet back to the supply tank. Some pumps have an integral valve, so check whether it is for protection only.
Can a gear pump run dry?
Not for long. Gears and bearings depend on the pumped liquid for lubrication, so dry running causes fast wear. Fit a low-level switch on the supply tank and prime the pump before starting.
How does temperature change gear pump flow in the UAE?
Higher temperature thins oil, which increases internal slip and reduces delivered flow at a given speed. Cold starts on thick oil raise power demand. Give the supplier the viscosity at your minimum and maximum temperatures.
Is API 676 required for gear pumps in the UAE?
API 676 is the standard for rotary positive displacement pumps and is called up in many ADNOC and EPC specifications. Utility and general industrial buyers often accept the maker standard instead. Check the edition named in your tender.
Where do I buy hydraulic gear pumps as opposed to process gear pumps?
Hydraulic gear pumps that drive machinery are listed under hydraulic pumps, with brands such as Bosch Rexroth and Parker Hannifin. Process gear pumps for oils, fuels and resins come from rotary pump distributors.
