Knitting machines in Saudi Arabia include circular, flat, seamless and sock machines for hosiery, sportswear, uniforms and technical textiles. This page covers machine types, the SASO machinery route under HS 8447, dust and humidity control and how to choose a supplier in the Kingdom.
Yanbu is a process city rather than a machine shop town. A June 2026 TradeArabia report counts 158 operational factories in Yanbu Industrial City, among them plants making flat glass, reinforcing steel, titanium dioxide, lubricants and motor oils, and synthetic fibers. For the manufacturing machinery sector, that means demand for welding equipment, heat treatment furnaces, injection molding machines and extrusion lines from converters and maintenance shops, not complete production lines for consumer goods.
The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu has planned a PlasChem Park in Yanbu Industrial City II, described in a 2012 report as a site for plastics converters and downstream chemical makers using local feedstock. MEED in 2014 listed polypropylene, polyethylene, engineered plastics, rubber and carbon fibre among the target product areas. Treat these as plans: confirm what has been built with the commission before quoting for a line. If converters do arrive, blow molding and plastic recycling machines would follow the resin supply.
Most maintenance machinery here is bought for plant workshops: lathes, milling machines, press brakes and welding sets that keep refinery and petrochemical contractors running. Specify duty in a hot coastal climate with salt in the air, since Yanbu has a hot desert climate and the plants sit on the Red Sea shore. Ask for spare part stock in Saudi Arabia, a service engineer within a day of site, and installation supervised by the maker. Larger imports arrive through King Fahd Industrial Port, so agree who handles port clearance. A post requirement lets several vendors answer one specification.
Yanbu is three places in one. Yanbu Al-Bahr is the older seafront town where most residents live, Yanbu Al-Nakhal is a separate inland area about 47 km away, and Yanbu Al-Sina'iya in the south holds the industrial city. The industrial city is planned and run by the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, which was established on 21 September 1975 and answers to the Council of Ministers. Its mission is to plan and manage energy-intensive and petrochemical cities, and gas collected from oil operations is meant to feed their plants. In April 2026 Arab News, citing the commission's annual report, put total investment in the Jubail and Yanbu industrial cities above SR1.5 trillion by the end of 2025, and described Yanbu as a refining and downstream processing centre. Wikipedia lists three refineries, a plastics facility and several petrochemical plants in the city.
The expansion known as Yanbu-2 was launched in July 2005 on about 66 square kilometres, with a plan for 34 basic and secondary industries and 224 light industries. Those are 2005 plan figures. On 9 April 2025 Aramco and Sinopec signed a framework agreement to advance engineering studies for a petrochemical expansion at the Yasref refinery, with a 1.8 million tonne a year steam cracker and a 1.5 million tonne aromatics complex. Aramco described it as a study-phase project.
King Fahd Industrial Port is described as the largest port for loading crude oil and petrochemicals on the Red Sea, with terminals for general cargo and containers, bulk cargo and crude oil. The East-West crude pipeline from the Eastern Province ends here. In May 2026 Mawani, a shipping line and SABIC announced the Red Sea Express container service linking the port with Ain Sokhna in Egypt and Aqaba in Jordan, at up to 1,100 TEU. In December 2025 Mawani signed a SAR 29 million logistics agreement with a logistics company for a 120,500 square metre cargo and storage site at a Yanbu port. The airport has domestic flights to Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam. Medina lies roughly 160 km east by road, so inland deliveries often route through it.
Inside the industrial city, the Royal Commission handles land, utilities and investor services. Port matters go through Mawani and the port operator, customs through ZATCA, and building permits through the municipality. Fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense, and medical products need Saudi Food and Drug Authority authorisation. Confirm the current steps with each body before you commit to a delivery date.
Refining, petrochemicals and port operations buy valves, pumps, coatings, gases, instrumentation and safety gear. Contractors follow plant shutdowns, and about 332,000 residents (2022 census) support housing, clinics and food supply.
