Surgical gloves and gowns in Saudi Arabia are the sterile gloves and barrier gowns used in operating theatres, alongside examination gloves and isolation gowns for wards. This page lists Saudi suppliers and sets out what SFDA expects: the recognised glove standards in guidance MDS-G004, gown classes under EN 13795 and AAMI PB70, storage across long hot distances, and NUPCO tender points.
Public buying in the capital runs through three health clusters. The official health.sa listing shows Riyadh First with 18 hospitals, 161 primary care centers, 17 specialized centers and up to 4,000 beds, Riyadh Second with 9 hospitals and 2,449 beds, and Riyadh Third with 14 hospitals and 1,945 beds. Tenders therefore arrive as cluster-level packages for healthcare and medical equipment rather than one hospital at a time. Private hospitals and clinics add their own purchasing, and laboratories and pharmaceutical plants in the industrial estates buy process equipment.
Patient care and diagnostics lead. Buyers ask for patient monitors, hospital beds, X-ray equipment and ultrasound systems, along with sterilization and laboratory equipment. Because the clusters also contract out maintenance of devices across their hospitals, service capability counts as much as the unit price. Choose a supplier that stocks spare parts in the city and can show trained engineers.
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority regulates medical devices, and its homepage reports marketing authorization for more than 163,000 devices and over 2,000 licensed establishments across its regulated sectors. A device normally needs authorization and the importer needs an establishment licence. Ask the supplier for the authorization record before you evaluate price, and check with SFDA whether your specific device class needs anything further. Hospital infrastructure items such as medical gas systems also fall under building and Civil Defense rules.
Write the specification around the clinical use, then request installation, training and warranty terms in the same quote. For tenders, confirm the cluster's supplier registration route on its own platform. Use post a requirement if you need quotes from several distributors on one specification. Expect lead times to be longer for imaging systems than for consumables, so place orders for installation-heavy items well ahead of a ward opening, and keep a small buffer stock of the consumables your wards use daily.
Riyadh is a capital before it is an industrial centre, so its factories sit in planned estates on the edge of the built-up city rather than in the middle of it. The authority behind most of them is the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, known as MODON, which also leases ready-to-use factory units. Riyadh Second Industrial City, to the south along the Al-Kharj road, is the long-standing manufacturing district; a 2013 report on the opening of ready-made small factories there shows how early MODON used it for small and mid-size manufacturers. Next to it, Al-Tatweer Private Industrial City, licensed in 2007 and renamed in 2020, targets electrical, food and building-materials plants. Sudair City for Industry and Businesses in the wider Riyadh region is one of the cities MODON named as a leading food and beverage manufacturing location in 2023.
Inside the city, older trading and workshop districts handle spare parts, tools and small fabrication, while warehouse stock has grown to about 28.9 million square meters, according to a Knight Frank review reported in October 2025.
Riyadh has no seaport, so imports arrive through Dammam, Jubail or Jeddah and then move inland. The Riyadh Dry Port, run under a concession by Saudi Global Ports, is linked by rail to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, King Fahd Industrial Port and Jubail Commercial Port, and Ras Al-Khair Port. In April 2024 Mawani reported the first container shipment by rail from Jubail Commercial Port to the dry port, 78 containers on one train. Trucks carry the remainder along the main highways, and air freight moves through the capital's airports. Ask your forwarder which leg is faster for your cargo, since customs clearance by ZATCA can happen at the port or at the dry port.
MODON and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources deal with factory land and licences. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City leads the city's large programmes, including the Riyadh Metro and the main road axes. Building permits follow the Saudi Building Code through the municipality, and fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense. Medical devices must be authorised by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority. Confirm the current steps on each authority's own platform before you sign a contract.
Construction leads, driven by the metro, King Salman Park and the New Murabba downtown, which was announced with a completion target of 2030. Healthcare follows, with three public health clusters. Food, packaging and electrical plants buy machinery for the estates, and data centres, offices and hotels buy cooling, power and facilities services. Heavy oil, gas and petrochemical demand is stronger in the Eastern Province.
