Solar Inverters Suppliers, Saudi Arabia
Solar inverters in Saudi Arabia are the string, central and hybrid units that convert PV array output into 60 Hz AC for rooftop, industrial and utility plants. This page lists Saudi solar inverter suppliers and explains which inverter suits which project, the inverter standards in SASO's PV technical regulation, nameplate and labelling rules, design for desert heat and dust, and what drives price and lead time.

What are solar inverters and which types are used in Saudi Arabia?
A solar inverter is the power converter that takes DC from the PV array, holds each string at its maximum power point, and feeds AC into the 60 Hz Saudi network, or into batteries and local loads on off-grid sites. It sits inside the wider family of solar energy equipment in Saudi Arabia, which covers the regulatory framework for small-scale and utility projects; here the focus is the inverter purchase.
Substation battery chargers and static UPS-style inverters are a different product with different standards; they are covered on the companion page for inverters and rectifiers for Saudi industrial plants.
| Type | Saudi application | Key specification points |
|---|---|---|
| Three-phase string inverter | Factory and warehouse roofs in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam industrial cities, carports, small ground-mount plants | MPPT count, 1,000 V or 1,500 V DC input class, IP65 or IP66, power available at 50 C ambient |
| Central inverter station | Utility plants under the National Renewable Energy Program | Site-temperature rating, cooling, integrated MV transformer, low voltage ride-through |
| Hybrid inverter | Homes, farms and commercial sites adding batteries | Battery compatibility, backup output, charge and discharge power |
| Off-grid inverter and charge controller | Farms, remote camps, pumping and telecom sites | Motor starting surge, generator input, battery chemistry; charge controllers to IEC 62509 |
| Microinverter or optimiser | Small residential roofs with shading | Electronics rating under hot modules, module compatibility |
String sizing starts from the voltage and current of the chosen solar panels and PV modules. On ground-mount plants the inverter choice also interacts with single-axis solar trackers, since tracked rows change the daily power curve and the DC to AC ratio. How do Saudi heat, sand and dust affect solar inverters?
Inverters lose output as they heat up, and Saudi interior sites such as Riyadh, Qassim and Al Kharj combine very high summer ambients with sun-heated walls and roofs. Sand and fine dust then clog cooling paths, which pushes temperatures higher still.
Read the derating curve
A datasheet operating range only tells you the unit keeps running. Huawei, for instance, lists an operating range of -25 C to +60 C for its SUN2000-12K to 25K-MB0 inverters, while Fronius says its Tauro commercial inverter keeps stable high performance up to 50 C ambient. The full-power temperature on each curve is what decides how much energy you lose on a July afternoon. Ask bidders to state output at the real mounting temperature, and request the curve in writing as part of the technical submittal.
Cooling, enclosure and sand
Specify IP65 or IP66 enclosures and decide whether fan-cooled or fanless units suit the site. Fanless designs such as the Delta M15A and M20A Flex rely on natural convection and remove fan replacements from the maintenance list; fan-cooled units need filters checked after sandstorms. Shade every outdoor inverter, ideally on the north side of a structure or under a canopy.
Humid coasts
Jeddah, Yanbu, Jubail and Dammam add humidity and salt. Use sealed glands, matched connector families and stainless fixings, and look for anti-PID functions where modules sit in humid air for long periods.
Which standards and approvals apply to solar inverters in Saudi Arabia?
As of 2026, PV inverters placed on the Saudi market fall under SASO's Technical Regulation for Solar Photovoltaic Systems, which needs a certificate of conformity from a notified body before sale, and its Annex 1 lists the standards an inverter must meet. Grid connection rules for small-scale systems sit with the electricity regulator and the distribution service provider.
| Standard or rule | What it covers | Who checks it |
|---|---|---|
| SASO IEC 62109-1 and 62109-2 | Safety of power converters and inverters in PV systems | Notified body for the SASO certificate |
| UL 1741 | Inverters and interconnection equipment for distributed energy resources | Listed in the SASO annex |
| SASO IEC 62116 | Islanding prevention test for grid-tied PV inverters | Accredited laboratory |
| SASO IEC TS 62910 | Low voltage ride-through test procedure | Accredited laboratory |
| EN 50530 and IEC 61683 | Overall efficiency and conversion efficiency | Manufacturer type tests |
| IEC 62894 | Inverter data sheet and nameplate | SASO labelling check |
| SABER shipment certificate | Each consignment of regulated products | SASO via approved certification bodies |
Labels and nameplate. The regulation asks for product labels in Arabic and English and sets a minimum inverter nameplate: maker, model, type, MPP voltage range, number of MPP trackers, maximum input voltage and current, rated power and voltage, maximum output current, frequency, degree of protection, safety class, weight and dimensions. Check a sample nameplate against this list before shipment, since gaps surface at certification.
Factory systems. The supplier must show an effective quality management system and environmental management system at the factory; ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certificates satisfy this. SASO also requires inverters to meet the rules of the authorities that govern grid connection. Our guide to SASO and SABER certificates explains product and shipment certificates step by step.
Who supplies solar inverters in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi buyers get inverters from authorised distributors in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province, inside EPC packages, or direct from factories on utility projects. Brands with Saudi channels include Huawei FusionSolar inverters, Fronius solar inverters including the Tauro range and Delta Electronics PV string inverters.
- Through an EPC: small-scale systems up to 2 MW must be designed and installed by qualified firms, so the inverter usually arrives with the installer. See solar EPC services in Saudi Arabia.
- Distributor: for spares and replacement units, confirm the model holds a valid SASO certificate and that warranty service is available in the Kingdom.
- Factory direct: for utility volumes, with factory acceptance tests and local spares agreements.
Request the SASO certificate of conformity, IEC and UL test reports, the derating curve and the warranty terms, and use our checklist on vetting industrial suppliers in Saudi Arabia. To compare offers, post a solar inverter requirement.
What affects solar inverter price and lead time in Saudi Arabia?
Certificate status and power class move the price and the delivery date more than anything else.
- Certification: a model already certified by SASO and registered on SABER clears King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam or Jeddah Islamic Port faster than a new model awaiting tests.
- Power class: utility string inverters and central stations are built to order; residential and commercial sizes are more often held in local stock.
- Grid functions: ride-through, reactive power control and plant controller integration required by the utility add engineering time.
- Local content: on NREP projects the developer may prefer locally assembled equipment to meet the tender minimum.
