PPR pipes and fittings in Saudi Arabia are heat-fused polypropylene (PP-R and PP-RCT) systems for hot and cold water in homes, hospitals, hotels and offices, and they fall under SASO's regulation for pipes in water networks. This page explains the SASO certificate and the SASO-ISO-15874 standard, how to size the wall for Saudi summer water temperatures, jointing and testing, the brands available and what sets price and delivery.

PPR pipes are polypropylene random copolymer pressure pipes for building water services, sold with matching fusion fittings, brass threaded adaptors and valves. In the Kingdom they are the usual choice for water distribution inside buildings and sit within the broader Saudi pipes and fittings category, which also covers drainage, buried and metal pipe.
A Saudi order should name four things: resin (PP-R or PP-RCT), pipe series or SDR, any fibre composite layer, and the metric outside diameter. SASO does not accept soft conversion from inch sizes, so the design must use the metric series.
| Type | Where Saudi projects use it | Key points to state |
|---|---|---|
| PP-R pipe, cold water series | Cold water branches in housing, schools and mosques | SDR, diameter, operating pressure |
| PP-R pipe, hot water series | Domestic hot water from heaters and central plant in hotels and hospitals | Maximum water temperature, SDR from the maker's table |
| PP-RCT pipe | Hot water mains and larger risers where higher strength at heat allows a thinner wall | Material class marked on pipe, rated life at temperature |
| Fibre composite (faser) pipe | Exposed risers, plant rooms and long runs in basements | Expansion reduction claimed, support and fixed point spacing |
| Fusion fittings, brass transition fittings, PPR valves | Connections to fixtures, heaters, pumps and tanks | Same system as the pipe, brass insert grade, valve type |
For drainage and soil lines Saudi contractors use PVC and CPVC pipe systems; buried water services, farms and irrigation use HDPE pipe for buried water and irrigation; and medical gas or premium plumbing specifications may call for copper tube and fittings.
PPR pipe sold in the Kingdom falls under SASO's Technical Regulation for Building Materials Part 5, Pipes used in Water, Electricity and Gas Networks, which lists SASO-ISO-15874-2 for polypropylene hot and cold water pipe. The supplier placing it on the market needs a certificate of conformity under a Type 3 model, or the Saudi Quality Mark, as of 2026.
| Requirement | What it means for a PPR buyer | Authority |
|---|---|---|
| Certificate of conformity, Type 3 (ISO/IEC 17067), from a body acceptable to SASO | Ask for the certificate naming the product, sizes and factory | SASO and its notified bodies, through SABER |
| Saudi Quality Mark or equivalent | Pipes carrying it are deemed to comply with the regulation | SASO |
| SASO-ISO-15874-2 | The product standard listed for polypropylene hot and cold water pipe | SASO adoption of ISO 15874 |
| Supplier declaration of conformity kept for at least ten years | The supplier must be able to produce it to regulators | SASO, customs and market surveillance |
| Metric nominal diameters; no soft conversion from inch sizes | Order in the metric series the design uses | SASO |
| Saudi Building Code, plumbing part | Design and installation rules still apply on top of the product regulation | Saudi Building Code National Committee |
The regulation was approved by SASO's board on 20 June 2019 and published in the Official Gazette on 2 August 2019, and only the Arabic text is legally authentic. SASO notes that the product and customs code list on SABER is the current version, so check the HS code there. Our guide to SASO and SABER certificates walks through product and shipment certificates for imported lots.
Water temperature sets the PPR wall more than pressure does. Riyadh and Qassim summers heat cold water in roof tanks and exposed pipes, and hot water circuits run continuously in hotels and hospitals, so size every line for its real maximum temperature.
According to the Plastics Pipe Institute, PP-RCT has higher long-term strength at elevated temperature than older PP-R resins, about 25 percent more stress capability for the same wall and temperature, and PP-R and PP-RCT pipe and fittings can be fused to each other. ISO 15874-2 leaves the choice of application class, design pressure and dimension class to the purchaser and does not apply above the temperature limits in its Part 1 table, so get the maker's table for the exact pipe.
aquatherm notes that plain PP can expand five to ten times more than copper or steel, and its fibre composite pipe reduces this by at least 75 percent. Plan fixed points and expansion loops on exposed risers in Jeddah and Dammam towers. The same maker limits unprotected outdoor storage to six months, so shade pipe stock on site. PPR does not corrode in the humid, salty air of the Red Sea and Gulf coasts, which is one reason it replaced galvanised steel in housing.
PPR is joined by heat fusion, so the installer's tools and training decide whether the system holds. Socket fusion covers small and medium sizes, butt fusion large diameters, and electrofusion sockets suit repairs; aquatherm lists hand welders for 16 to 63 mm and electrofusion from 20 to 250 mm in its range.
PPR in the Kingdom comes from Saudi producers and from importers of German, Turkish and Gulf-made systems. For imported pipe, the importer of record holds the SASO certificate, so an established distributor usually clears goods faster.
Our guide on sourcing industrial suppliers in Saudi Arabia lists wider checks. For quotes from several suppliers in Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam, post a PPR pipe requirement with diameters, series and delivery city.
Polypropylene resin price, wall series and certificate status move Saudi PPR prices the most. Saudi-made pipe in common sizes is usually in stock; imported systems depend on sea freight and SABER clearance.
