Fire Protection brands in Saudi Arabia
What is fire protection in Saudi Arabia, and what types are there?
Fire protection in Saudi Arabia is the group of systems and products that detect fire, warn occupants, suppress or control the fire and contain it, designed under the Saudi Building Code and checked by the General Directorate of Civil Defense. ListGCC places it within plumbing and sanitary products for Saudi buildings, since sprinklers, hydrants and hose reels share tanks, pumps and pipework with the water services. Two rule sets apply: SBC 801 and SBC 201 decide what a building must have, and a SASO technical regulation decides which extinguishing equipment may be sold.
On Saudi projects the fire scope is usually let to a specialist contractor under the MEP package, but the consultant and the Civil Defense reviewer approve the design and each product submittal. The five product groups we list are below.
| Type | Where Saudi buyers use it | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| Sprinkler systems for buildings and warehouses | Giga-project hotels and malls, hospitals, logistics parks around Riyadh and Dammam, industrial plants in Jubail and Yanbu | Occupancy hazard, system type (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge), sprinkler K-factor, temperature rating, valve stations, pump and tank sizing |
| Fire detection and alarm panels and devices | Residential towers, schools, mosques, offices, data centres | Panel architecture, detector choice per space, voice evacuation where required, interfaces with HVAC, lifts and access control |
| Fire extinguishers, portable and wheeled | Every building, shops, workshops, vehicles and fuel stations | Extinguishing agent, size, rating, SASO conformity and a label in line with the technical regulation |
| Fire hydrants, hose reels and riser equipment | Site fire mains in industrial cities, warehouse yards, high-rise risers | Working pressure, hose type (semi-rigid or lay-flat), outlet connections, cabinet and coating for exposure |
| Fire-resistant glazing systems | Stair enclosures, corridors, lobbies and atria | Rated period, whether insulation is needed or integrity alone, and test evidence covering glass, frame and seals together |
Fire mains, sprinkler pipework and riser pipes come from the wider pipes and fittings range for Saudi projects, including ductile iron pipe for underground fire mains. The same contractor often handles sanitary ware and fixtures, so ceiling and riser coordination between the two scopes is worth settling early.
How does the Saudi climate affect fire protection choices?
The Saudi climate affects fire protection through extreme summer heat inland, airborne dust across the Kingdom and humid, salty air on the Gulf and Red Sea coasts. Each one changes product selection, so state the site conditions in the specification rather than leaving them to the supplier.
Inland heat in Riyadh, Qassim and the interior
Roof spaces, metal-clad warehouses and rooftop plant rooms in central Saudi Arabia get much hotter than occupied rooms. Sprinkler temperature ratings must exceed the normal maximum ceiling temperature where each head is installed, and the designer should flag hot zones on the drawings. Extinguishers in outdoor cabinets, guard houses and vehicles must suit the operating temperature range shown on their label; shade or relocate them if not.
Dust storms and sandy sites
Dust storms and construction dust load up optical smoke detectors and beam detector lenses, which leads to nuisance alarms and, over time, slower response. Order detectors with contamination monitoring, protect them until the building is clean, and agree a cleaning and testing cycle with the maintenance provider. Logistics sheds with open dock doors often suit heat, aspirating or beam detection better than point smoke detectors.
Coastal sites in Jeddah, Jubail and Dammam
On the Red Sea and Gulf coasts, humid and saline air corrodes hydrant bodies, landing valves, pump skids and cabinets. Industrial plants in Jubail and Yanbu often follow owner specifications for coatings and materials; for commercial buildings, write the coating system and cabinet material into the order.
Which codes and certificates apply to fire protection in Saudi Arabia?
Fire protection in Saudi Arabia is governed by the Saudi Building Code, chiefly the Saudi Fire Code SBC 801 and the general building code SBC 201, which call on NFPA standards for system design, and by SASO's Technical Regulation for Fire Control Materials and Equipment, which requires a certificate of conformity before extinguishing equipment is sold. We checked these sources in October 2026.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi Fire Code SBC 801 and SBC 201 Chapter 9 | Which buildings need sprinklers, alarms, standpipes and extinguishers, and how they are installed; NFPA standards are used to design the systems | Saudi Building Code National Committee; enforced with the Civil Defense |
| SBC 2024 edition | Reported to have come into effect on 30 June 2025; projects that passed key Civil Defense milestones under SBC 2018 may continue under that edition | Saudi Building Code National Committee, Civil Defense |
| SASO Technical Regulation for Fire Control Materials and Equipment (approved August 2019) | Fire extinguishing equipment, firefighting pumps, extinguishing agents, and parts and fittings; fire alarm and firefighting systems are excluded and follow the Saudi fire code instead | SASO, with notified bodies |
| Certificate of conformity, Type 3 (ISO/IEC 17067) | Each product in the regulation's scope before it is placed on the market, plus a technical file with the supplier declaration and risk assessment | SASO notified bodies; certificates handled through SABER |
| Referenced standards in the regulation | SASO standards for portable and mobile extinguishers, SASO GSO ISO 7165 and ISO 11601, SASO GSO EN 671 for hose systems, SASO NFPA 20 for fire pumps, and SASO ISO 14520 parts for gaseous systems | SASO |
| SBC inspection bodies | Third-party inspection against the Saudi Fire Code; SASO's accepted list was last updated on 6 September 2026 | SASO |
Read the SASO regulation closely: its English translation notes that only the Arabic version is legally binding, and its standards list is subject to review, so suppliers must check they hold the current editions. Equipment carrying the Saudi Quality Mark or its equivalent is treated as meeting the regulation's safety requirements. For alarm panels and complete sprinkler systems, the approval question is mostly about design and installation under SBC 801, reviewed by Civil Defense or one of the consultancies it certifies as reviewers. Our guide to SASO and SABER certificates explains product and shipment certificates step by step. If you also buy for the UAE, the UAE Civil Defence approval guide shows how the rules differ there.
Who are the fire protection suppliers in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi fire protection buyers deal with Saudi factories, Gulf manufacturers with Saudi branches, and agents for American, European and Asian brands. The right route depends on whether you need engineered systems with commissioning, or catalogue items such as extinguishers and hose reels.
SFFECO, the Saudi Factory for Fire Equipment, makes extinguishers and firefighting equipment in the Kingdom, and NAFFCO supplies extinguishers, sprinkler products and pump sets across the region. For sprinklers and valves, Saudi submittals often name Tyco, Viking, Globe and Grinnell. Detection and alarm systems are offered by Notifier and Edwards (EST), among others, and portable extinguishers by brands including Amerex and Kidde.
Factory, authorised agent or trading stockist?
Alarm networks, gaseous suppression and fire pump sets are best bought from the maker or its authorised agent, who can supply programming, commissioning and certified spares. Trading stockists in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam are practical for extinguishers, hose reels, cabinets and replacement sprinklers, as long as every item has a valid SASO certificate of conformity and SABER shipment record. Locally made equipment can also shorten lead times.
Ask each supplier for the SASO certificate per model, the referenced standard, datasheets with temperature ratings and finishes, compatibility statements for alarm devices, delivery and spares commitments, and references from Saudi projects. When you are ready to compare offers, post your requirement to reach Saudi fire protection suppliers.
What affects the price and lead time of fire protection in Saudi Arabia?
In Saudi Arabia, fire protection prices and lead times turn on conformity status, system scope and origin. A product with a current SASO certificate and local stock moves fast; an imported item that still needs a notified-body certificate, or a system that needs Civil Defense design review, takes longer.
- Certification route: new certificates add testing, factory assessment and fees under the Type 3 model; models already certified avoid this.
- Scope: deluge, foam and gaseous systems need more engineering and commissioning than wet sprinklers; voice evacuation and networked panels raise alarm costs.
- Raw materials: steel, copper and agent prices drive cylinders, pipe, cabinets and cables.
- Origin: imports clear through King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam or Jeddah Islamic Port and need SABER shipment certificates; Saudi-made products skip the sea leg.
- Programme: giga-project packages are often split into phases, so agree price validity, escalation and storage terms up front.
ListGCC does not quote prices. Ask suppliers to show local-stock and import options side by side, with delivery dates, so you can judge cost against programme.
