Electronics and industrial automation in Saudi Arabia covers components, ICT and security hardware, robots and PLCs, industrial networks, UPS and power electronics, and sensors, bought by Aramco and SABIC sites, utilities, factories in MODON cities, data centres and giga-projects. This page sets out the six families, where demand sits in Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Jeddah, which SABER, CST, RoHS and NCA rules apply as of 2026, and how to choose a supplier.
Mecca's electronics demand is about managing people and buildings, not factory lines. Large hotels, transport stations, hospitals and the surrounding public facilities need security, networks, power backup and building controls. Plant automation, PLC panels and robotics are only a minor part, and those buyers sit in the industrial cities of Jeddah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province. Browse the full range under electronics and industrial automation.
Safety and surveillance lead: CCTV and IP cameras, access control systems and biometric access for entrances and staff areas. UPS systems protect hotel and hospital loads when the grid blinks, and structured cabling and industrial Ethernet switches link them. Two-way radios are widely used by seasonal operations staff. PLCs appear in district cooling and water plants.
Products arrive by road from Jeddah after port clearance. Because many installations support large crowds, specify equipment for continuous operation in heat and dust, and ask for local commissioning and support. Telecommunications devices need type approval, so confirm the requirement with the regulator before importing radios or wireless gear. Security work follows rules set by the competent authorities, and integrators should confirm which approvals their design needs.
Choose integrators who can staff the busy pilgrim months, and write response times into the contract. Request spares and a service plan with the first quote. For multiple offers on a single specification, post a requirement.
Summer temperatures and dust shorten the life of enclosures, fans and batteries, so ask for ingress protection ratings and thermal margins that suit outdoor cabinets in the Hejaz climate. Many Mecca systems are watched by operations rooms around the clock, so redundancy for power and network paths matters more than raw speed or the latest features.
Mecca is a destination first and a factory town second. Most of what the city consumes, from building materials to hospital supplies, is made elsewhere and brought in, and the industrial land that does exist sits on the outer edge. The main site is the Second Industrial City of Makkah in the Al-Akashiya district, which MODON, the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, began handing over in July 2021. Argaam reported an area of about 45.4 million square meters on the Fifth Ring Road where the Makkah, Taif and Jeddah roads meet, roughly 20 km from the Holy Mosque.
In November 2024 MODON signed a contract with a private developer for a ready-built industrial complex in Makkah, over 1.3 million square meters and SR1.75 billion, which Arab News described as MODON's first privately developed complex. Its stated aims were 5,000 jobs and up to 60 percent of output for export. Treat these as announced targets and ask for current occupancy before you plan around them.
There is no seaport in the city. Argaam put Jeddah Islamic Port about 70 km from the industrial city and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah about 88 km away, and the Haramain railway station about 25 km. Jeddah Islamic Port is described as the principal port serving the holy cities and handles about 65 percent of the Kingdom's seaborne imports, so most containers for Mecca clear at Jeddah and finish the journey by truck. For heavy industry, port services and large stockists, go to the Jeddah market first.
Holy Makkah Municipality, which sits under the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, handles permits, waste and food inspections, including the seasonal controls in the Hajj period. MODON deals with factory land. Medical devices are regulated by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, and fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense. Confirm each step on the authority's own platform.
Demand follows pilgrim numbers: hotels, catering, cleaning, cooling, hospital supplies and construction near the Holy Mosque. Heavy industry is thin here, and oil, gas and petrochemical buyers are in the Eastern Province. Use the sector pages below for the Mecca view of each trade.
