Heat treatment furnaces are sought by firms that finish forgings and tubular parts. Plastics firms look at injection molding machines and extrusion lines for pipes, films and packaging.
Most machines arrive by sea through King Abdulaziz Port, so ask the seller whether the quote includes sea freight, customs clearance and delivery to your plant gate. Saudi customs and product conformity rules apply to imported machinery, so confirm the current requirements with ZATCA or your freight agent before shipping. Foundation work, three phase power and compressed air should be ready before the machine lands; ask the dealer for a site pre-installation sheet.
Aftersales matters more than the price difference between brands. Ask where the nearest service engineer is based, how long spare spindles, controllers and torches take to arrive, and whether the dealer offers operator training in Arabic and English. The Third Industrial City is the large one: about 48 million square metres south of Dammam along the Dhahran-Uqair Road, planned in 2013 for petroleum, mineral, plastic, automobile, food and building-materials industries. In October 2024 three MODON projects worth over SAR 318 million were reported there, including a 4.5 km road to King Salman Energy City. That energy city, known as SPARK, lies between Dammam and Al-Ahsa and was described in 2024 as a 50 square kilometre site for oil and gas suppliers. In November 2024 the Eastern Province Municipality awarded a further 2.4 million square metre industrial city project in Dammam.
King Abdulaziz Port is the gateway. A January 2026 report put its container capacity at just under 3.9 million TEU, and said Saudi Global Ports plans to invest SAR 3.5 billion in Dammam by 2030, including an integrated logistics park. The port is about 400 km from Riyadh, and the same report counted five to seven daily rail services between Dammam and two Riyadh locations. Dammam Airports announced agreements worth over SAR 500 million for airport upgrades in October 2025. Ask your forwarder whether your shipment clears at the port or moves in bond to the destination.
MODON handles plots and leases inside its estates. The Eastern Province Amana, based in Dammam, covers five municipalities, namely Dhahran, East Dammam, Central Dammam, West Dammam and al-Khobar, and issues certain professional licences. The Saudi Food and Drug Authority oversees food, medicines and medical equipment. Civil Defense approves fire and life safety, and Saudi Electricity Company connects power.
