Aerial work platforms in Saudi Arabia are the scissor lifts, boom lifts and vertical mast lifts used to put workers safely at height on giga projects, plant turnarounds and building maintenance. This page lists Saudi dealers and rental companies and explains how to pick the right machine, what the SASO lifting equipment regulation and national MEWP procedure require as of 2026, how desert heat and dust affect machines, and what drives cost.
Jubail builds in two modes: industrial plant work inside the Royal Commission's estates, and the housing, schools and services that support a growing workforce. For construction and building materials buyers, the first mode means piling, structural steel, concrete and heavy lifting for process units. The second is steadier. A 2018 trade report on Jubail 2 listed an 860 km road network, 63 bridges, seven residential districts for about 120,000 more residents and a university, and Saudipedia says the Commission plans over 50,000 new housing units and a university in 2026 as part of a SAR 67.5 billion programme to double the city's area by 2030.
Plant and port projects consume structural steel, cement and concrete and pipes and fittings. Heavy lifts need cranes and lifting services, and coastal works use marine and coastal materials. Housing and school work adds waterproofing and insulation and thermal insulation, which matter in Gulf summers. For crane selection, our overhead crane buying guide explains capacities and duty classes.
Contractors work from yards and camps near the industrial estates, and suppliers keep stock in workshop and warehouse areas around them. Bulk and heavy cargo comes through King Fahd Industrial Port, general cargo through Jubail Commercial Port, and trucks bring steel and cement from other Eastern Province and Riyadh suppliers. Mawani reported in 2026 that the commercial port's container terminal is being upgraded under a Saudi Global Ports contract, with berth depth planned to rise from 14 m to 18 m.
Building works follow the Saudi Building Code, and fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense. Inside the industrial city, plot use and construction start are agreed with the Royal Commission, so confirm site rules before mobilising. Contractors working for large operators often must buy from approved vendors, so ask which brands are accepted. Request mill certificates for steel, and cube test results for concrete. Ask whether delivery includes unloading, because crane access on narrow plots is limited. To compare supply quotes, post a requirement.
Jubail is a planned industrial city before it is a town. The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, created in 1975, develops and runs Jubail Industrial City on the Arabian Gulf coast of the Eastern Province. Saudipedia names SABIC as the main owner of the industrial complexes and says 13 of its 16 Saudi production plants stand here, alongside Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATORP), Advanced Petrochemical Company and Jubail United Petrochemical Company. The older estate is often called Jubail 1. Jubail 2, whose foundation stone was laid in 2004, was planned in stages, with about a quarter of its area reserved for industry and a primary zone for chemicals such as methanol, ethylene oxide and ammonia, according to a 2018 trade report.
The Commission reported that investment across its industrial cities passed SAR 1.5 trillion (about USD 400 billion) by the end of 2025, and Saudipedia says it has set aside SAR 67.5 billion to double the city's area by 2030. Smaller fabricators, workshops and service firms cluster around the main plants, because the big complexes buy maintenance and contract labour continuously.
The Port of Jubail is two harbours under Mawani, the Saudi Ports Authority. King Fahd Industrial Port, opened to serve the industrial city, handles bulk and plant cargo, and Jubail Commercial Port handles general, container and bulk cargo. Saudi Global Ports, a PIF and PSA International venture, holds a build-operate-transfer contract for multipurpose terminals at four Eastern Province ports including both Jubail harbours. In December 2025 Mawani announced a land lease of more than SAR 500 million to a chemical terminal operator for 70,000 cubic metres of chemical storage at Jubail Commercial Port. Dammam is about 100 km south by road, and trucks and rail carry cargo on to Riyadh.
Inside the industrial city, the Royal Commission allocates land, supplies infrastructure and approves investors. Power, water and seawater cooling come from Marafiq, the utility for Jubail and Yanbu. Fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense, medical products need the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, and customs entries are handled by ZATCA. Confirm the current steps with each body before signing.
Petrochemicals, refining and chemicals buy pumps, valves, instruments, coatings, gases and maintenance services on shutdown calendars. Utilities and the port buy electrical and marine equipment. Construction and housing demand follows the expansion programme.
