Talc in Saudi Arabia is a soft magnesium silicate mineral, mined in the Kingdom in small quantities and imported for plastics, paint, ceramics, rubber and paper. This page explains Saudi talc deposits, why purity and asbestos-free testing matter, how to specify grades, which licences and import rules apply, and what drives price and delivery.
Not in the sense of working mines. Jeddah is a port and trading city, and the large metal and phosphate operations of the Kingdom lie inland and in the north, so the mining, quarrying and minerals activity in the city is mostly commercial. Buyers here are quarry operators supplying the building trade, aggregate and ready mix producers, and trading offices that ship mining consumables to sites elsewhere. Check each project's own location before you plan deliveries, since a site in the Arabian Shield is a long haul from the coast.
The nearest real demand is construction. Hard rock for aggregates, sand and base course feeds the roadwork, towers and waterfront works across the city, which means stone crushers and screening plants, mobile crushing plants and aggregate processing equipment are the practical categories. Cement and concrete plants buy silica sand, gypsum and calcium carbonate. Dewatering and ventilation work for tunnels and deep excavations calls for mine dewatering pumps. Suppliers who stock mining PPE and gas detection for mines also sell to confined space and tunnel crews.
Jeddah Islamic Port is the entry point for crushers, drill rods, wear parts and mill liners headed to sites in the west and centre. Wikipedia lists 62 berths in service and a share of about 65 percent of Saudi seaborne imports, and the March 2025 South Container Terminal expansion lifts capacity to 4 million TEU. Oversize pieces such as crusher frames need heavy haulage, so ask for route surveys and escort rules before the vessel arrives. The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources licenses mining and quarrying, so check that a seller supports the licence holder's paperwork.
Buy wear parts against a stocked list so a crusher stop does not wait for a ship. Ask for ore or rock test data when sizing screens. Use post a requirement to compare offers, and check the sourcing guide for vetting steps.
Jeddah is the commercial centre of the western Kingdom, and its factories sit in three industrial cities south of the built-up area, all supervised by the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, known as MODON. Saudipedia dates the First Industrial City to 1971, with about twelve million square metres and 1,119 factories, east of Al-Rahmaniyah Market. The Second opened in 2009 west of the Coastal Road, about 30 km from the first. The Third, east of the Coastal Road, is listed with 714 factories and a much larger 80 million square metre footprint, of which 24 million is developed. In August 2024 Argaam reported more than SAR 521 million of new MODON projects there, among them a first-phase wastewater plant of 10,000 cubic metres a day in the Second City and 24 ready-made factories of 350 square metres each in the First.
Jeddah Islamic Port is the main gateway. Wikipedia describes 62 berths in service in 2023 and a share of roughly 65 percent of the Kingdom's seaborne imports, and the port is the western end of the planned Saudi Landbridge. In March 2025 DP World and Mawani inaugurated the expanded South Container Terminal, which lifts capacity from 1.8 to 4 million TEU, and a SAR 900 million, 415,000 square metre logistics park is being built beside it. The airport lies to the north, and trucks carry cargo inland to Mecca, Medina, Taif and Riyadh.
MODON leases plots and ready units. Mawani regulates the port. ZATCA runs customs, and opened an all-in-one customs hall at the port in January 2022. Jeddah Municipality issues trade and building permits, the General Directorate of Civil Defense approves fire and life safety, and the National Water Company runs water and sewage. Confirm current steps on each authority's own platform before contracting.
Construction and fit-out lead because of waterfront and city redevelopment. Food, plastics, packaging, paint and metal plants in the industrial cities buy machinery and spares, while port and logistics operators buy handling gear. Fuel is distributed from Aramco's North Jeddah bulk plant, but refining and heavy petrochemicals sit in other cities.
