Surface mining equipment in Saudi Arabia is the open-pit fleet of haul trucks, excavators and shovels, loaders and dozers working in phosphate, bauxite, gold and aggregate operations across the Kingdom. This page covers fleet sizing, the dealer and contractor model, tyres and wear parts, SABER and heavy equipment rules, and what drives price and lead time.
Not in the sense of open pits. Jubail is an industrial processing city, and its link to mining, quarrying and minerals is as a port and process location. The nearest large minerals hub is Ras Al-Khair, well north of Jubail on the Gulf coast, where Ma'aden's phosphate and aluminium complexes are reported to sit and where a railway brings phosphate from the north. For primary mining equipment, buyers should look to those northern and western mining belts rather than Jubail itself.
The city's plants consume minerals and run mineral handling duties. Fertilizer, sulphur and petroleum coke move through King Fahd Industrial Port, according to the Mawani report from November 2023, and that handling creates demand for conveyor systems, dust control and wear resistant parts. Industrial minerals such as silica sand, bentonite, gypsum and calcium carbonate are bought for glass, drilling fluids, construction and polymer filler uses.
Treat Jubail as a trading and delivery point. Merchants and agents offer minerals by the bag, bulk truck or container, shipped through the Jubail ports or the Dammam area. Equipment such as stone crushers and screening plants, mining PPE and diamond tools is usually supplied by dealers in Dammam and Khobar or shipped from other regions.
Before you buy, ask for the mineral's particle size distribution and chemical analysis, and confirm that material for plant use matches the plant's specification. For regulated minerals, check the licence position of the seller with the relevant Saudi mining authority. If you cannot find a local source, post a requirement and let suppliers elsewhere in the Kingdom respond.
Jubail also has civil and industrial construction going on at scale, so aggregates, sand and crushed stone for concrete and road base are bought locally. Quarry output usually comes from sites inland, delivered by truck, so ask for delivery terms per tonne and the haul distance, since transport often decides the landed price.
Jubail is a planned industrial city before it is a town. The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, created in 1975, develops and runs Jubail Industrial City on the Arabian Gulf coast of the Eastern Province. Saudipedia names SABIC as the main owner of the industrial complexes and says 13 of its 16 Saudi production plants stand here, alongside Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATORP), Advanced Petrochemical Company and Jubail United Petrochemical Company. The older estate is often called Jubail 1. Jubail 2, whose foundation stone was laid in 2004, was planned in stages, with about a quarter of its area reserved for industry and a primary zone for chemicals such as methanol, ethylene oxide and ammonia, according to a 2018 trade report.
The Commission reported that investment across its industrial cities passed SAR 1.5 trillion (about USD 400 billion) by the end of 2025, and Saudipedia says it has set aside SAR 67.5 billion to double the city's area by 2030. Smaller fabricators, workshops and service firms cluster around the main plants, because the big complexes buy maintenance and contract labour continuously.
The Port of Jubail is two harbours under Mawani, the Saudi Ports Authority. King Fahd Industrial Port, opened to serve the industrial city, handles bulk and plant cargo, and Jubail Commercial Port handles general, container and bulk cargo. Saudi Global Ports, a PIF and PSA International venture, holds a build-operate-transfer contract for multipurpose terminals at four Eastern Province ports including both Jubail harbours. In December 2025 Mawani announced a land lease of more than SAR 500 million to a chemical terminal operator for 70,000 cubic metres of chemical storage at Jubail Commercial Port. Dammam is about 100 km south by road, and trucks and rail carry cargo on to Riyadh.
Inside the industrial city, the Royal Commission allocates land, supplies infrastructure and approves investors. Power, water and seawater cooling come from Marafiq, the utility for Jubail and Yanbu. Fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense, medical products need the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, and customs entries are handled by ZATCA. Confirm the current steps with each body before signing.
Petrochemicals, refining and chemicals buy pumps, valves, instruments, coatings, gases and maintenance services on shutdown calendars. Utilities and the port buy electrical and marine equipment. Construction and housing demand follows the expansion programme.
