Heavy or unstable loads often also need strapping and banding, and a sound pallet or crate under the load. Film resin itself comes from polyethylene and plastic raw material suppliers, and many Saudi film makers buy locally produced resin.
Choose stretch film by testing it on your heaviest and least stable loads over your longest route, often Dammam to Jeddah or Riyadh to a regional depot by truck. A film that holds a load in the warehouse can fail after a day of road vibration and heat.
A wrapper with powered pre-stretch stretches the film before it reaches the load. Lantech gives the example of a 65 gauge film pre-stretched 250%, which is about 26 gauge on the load. The same maker notes that cast film unwinds quietly and is clear, while blown film resists puncture, so mixed operations often run both. Polifilm describes hand film as flexible and cost effective for low volumes and mixed pallet types, and machine film as faster and more consistent for higher volumes. Ask shrink film suppliers for shrinkage at your tunnel or hood temperature, measured to ASTM D2732, and for UV stabilised grades on pallets that will stand outdoors at plants or ports.
Desert heat and dust shorten film life in storage and in use. Store film cool and covered, and specify UV stabilised grades for anything left outside.
The SASO Technical Regulation for Degradable Plastic Products is the main rule for these films: its Annex 1 lists elastic plastic film rolls for goods packaging, clinging film rolls and heat shrinkable film rolls among products that must be degradable and carry the SASO logo. Intertek described the regulation's scope in 2017 as disposable polyethylene and polypropylene products of 250 microns or less, and said products made or imported as final products must carry SASO's oxo-biodegradable logo. Saudi Arabia has its own film extrusion industry, so most stretch and shrink film is bought directly from Saudi manufacturers or their distributors, with imports for specialty and very thin high performance grades.
