Refrigerated trucks and containers in Saudi Arabia are the reefer vans, rigid trucks, semi-trailers and ISO containers that carry chilled and frozen food across long routes between Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam and the regions. This page lists Saudi suppliers and covers the SFDA food transport requirements, the ATP agreement, how to size units for hot long-haul work, and what affects cost and delivery.
Jeddah combines a deep water port, a large import market for grain, meat and ingredients, and a western region population that includes the seasonal pilgrim flow. In November 2024 MODON described a Jeddah Food Cluster across the Second and Third Industrial Cities, covering about 11 million square meters, with 124 operating factories, 76 of them ready built to Saudi Food and Drug Authority standards, a central food safety laboratory, and about 134,000 square meters of shared cold and dry storage. MODON reported SAR 4.4 billion invested so far. That scale explains why food and beverage processing is one of Jeddah's busiest equipment markets.
Press reports from 2025 describe a processed food factory in Jeddah being built by Brazil's BRF with the PIF-owned Halal Products Development Company, with a halal innovation centre attached, and a 2026 report says JBS announced further investment in its Jeddah processed food site. Treat both as reported plans and confirm the current status. Plants like these buy food processing equipment, filling and sealing machines, cutting and slicing machines and metal detectors for food, plus blast freezers and cold storage rooms.
Halal is a design question, not a label. Ask the supplier whether materials and lubricants that touch product are suitable for halal certified lines, and keep processing lines for halal product free of cross contact. Food grade stainless grades, washdown ratings and cleanable design matter more in Jeddah's humid air, where condensation encourages mould. Refrigeration needs to be sized for high ambient temperature, so ask for capacity at local summer conditions, a defrost plan and backup power. Product plants answer to the food regulator, so check that your equipment and layout fit its facility requirements, and that HACCP consulting is booked before commissioning.
Most imported ingredients, packaging and machinery come through Jeddah Islamic Port, which now has bonded and logistics parks beside the terminals. Chilled and frozen goods depend on refrigerated trucks and containers, so confirm reefer plug availability at the terminal. Compare quotes on one line specification with post a requirement.
Jeddah is the commercial centre of the western Kingdom, and its factories sit in three industrial cities south of the built-up area, all supervised by the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, known as MODON. Saudipedia dates the First Industrial City to 1971, with about twelve million square metres and 1,119 factories, east of Al-Rahmaniyah Market. The Second opened in 2009 west of the Coastal Road, about 30 km from the first. The Third, east of the Coastal Road, is listed with 714 factories and a much larger 80 million square metre footprint, of which 24 million is developed. In August 2024 Argaam reported more than SAR 521 million of new MODON projects there, among them a first-phase wastewater plant of 10,000 cubic metres a day in the Second City and 24 ready-made factories of 350 square metres each in the First.
Jeddah Islamic Port is the main gateway. Wikipedia describes 62 berths in service in 2023 and a share of roughly 65 percent of the Kingdom's seaborne imports, and the port is the western end of the planned Saudi Landbridge. In March 2025 DP World and Mawani inaugurated the expanded South Container Terminal, which lifts capacity from 1.8 to 4 million TEU, and a SAR 900 million, 415,000 square metre logistics park is being built beside it. The airport lies to the north, and trucks carry cargo inland to Mecca, Medina, Taif and Riyadh.
MODON leases plots and ready units. Mawani regulates the port. ZATCA runs customs, and opened an all-in-one customs hall at the port in January 2022. Jeddah Municipality issues trade and building permits, the General Directorate of Civil Defense approves fire and life safety, and the National Water Company runs water and sewage. Confirm current steps on each authority's own platform before contracting.
Construction and fit-out lead because of waterfront and city redevelopment. Food, plastics, packaging, paint and metal plants in the industrial cities buy machinery and spares, while port and logistics operators buy handling gear. Fuel is distributed from Aramco's North Jeddah bulk plant, but refining and heavy petrochemicals sit in other cities.
