Power distribution equipment in Saudi Arabia covers the substations, ring main units, busduct, energy meters, power factor correction and voltage regulators that take power from the SEC network or a private plant to the loads. This page lists Saudi suppliers and explains SEC distribution specifications, the 230/400 V transition, smart metering, the IEC standards in tenders, the effect of Saudi heat and dust, and what drives cost and delivery.
Energy in Jubail is organised around the industrial city's own utility. Marafiq, the Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu, began commercial operations on 1 January 2003 and supplies power, desalinated and process water, seawater cooling and wastewater treatment to the Royal Commission's estates. Buyers of energy and renewables equipment in Jubail are therefore a mix of the utility, the large plants with their own generation and cooling, and contractors building new capacity.
A few developments, reported in different years, show the direction. Construction of the Jubail 3B Independent Water Project was reported in June 2022 as partly powered by a 61 MWp solar plant, with a 58 km power line and a substation. Saudi Aramco has announced a hydrogen hub in Jubail Industrial City, which a 2024 report said could start operating by 2027. Both create orders for solar panels and modules, substations and hydrogen and fuel cell equipment. Check current status with the developers, since schedules move.
Day to day, plants buy diesel generators for standby, power distribution gear, chillers and cooling towers. Hot, humid summers keep cooling plant under heavy load, and salt in the air shortens the life of unprotected enclosures.
Ask for equipment rated for high ambient temperature and coastal corrosion, and request type test reports. Connection to the grid or to the utility's networks is agreed with the utility and the Royal Commission, so involve them before ordering large items. Generators and switchgear arrive through King Fahd Industrial Port or Dammam and need heavy transport, so confirm lifting and delivery access at the site. For an installed solar or storage system, compare the EPC contractor's references and warranty terms. Send one specification to several suppliers through post a requirement.
Jubail is a planned industrial city before it is a town. The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, created in 1975, develops and runs Jubail Industrial City on the Arabian Gulf coast of the Eastern Province. Saudipedia names SABIC as the main owner of the industrial complexes and says 13 of its 16 Saudi production plants stand here, alongside Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATORP), Advanced Petrochemical Company and Jubail United Petrochemical Company. The older estate is often called Jubail 1. Jubail 2, whose foundation stone was laid in 2004, was planned in stages, with about a quarter of its area reserved for industry and a primary zone for chemicals such as methanol, ethylene oxide and ammonia, according to a 2018 trade report.
The Commission reported that investment across its industrial cities passed SAR 1.5 trillion (about USD 400 billion) by the end of 2025, and Saudipedia says it has set aside SAR 67.5 billion to double the city's area by 2030. Smaller fabricators, workshops and service firms cluster around the main plants, because the big complexes buy maintenance and contract labour continuously.
The Port of Jubail is two harbours under Mawani, the Saudi Ports Authority. King Fahd Industrial Port, opened to serve the industrial city, handles bulk and plant cargo, and Jubail Commercial Port handles general, container and bulk cargo. Saudi Global Ports, a PIF and PSA International venture, holds a build-operate-transfer contract for multipurpose terminals at four Eastern Province ports including both Jubail harbours. In December 2025 Mawani announced a land lease of more than SAR 500 million to a chemical terminal operator for 70,000 cubic metres of chemical storage at Jubail Commercial Port. Dammam is about 100 km south by road, and trucks and rail carry cargo on to Riyadh.
Inside the industrial city, the Royal Commission allocates land, supplies infrastructure and approves investors. Power, water and seawater cooling come from Marafiq, the utility for Jubail and Yanbu. Fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense, medical products need the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, and customs entries are handled by ZATCA. Confirm the current steps with each body before signing.
Petrochemicals, refining and chemicals buy pumps, valves, instruments, coatings, gases and maintenance services on shutdown calendars. Utilities and the port buy electrical and marine equipment. Construction and housing demand follows the expansion programme.
