Pesticides and insecticides in Saudi Arabia are the registered products that farms, greenhouses, date palm growers and pest control operators use against insects, mites and crop diseases. This page covers the main product types, how heat and long inland deliveries affect them, the GCC Pesticides Law and the MEWA and SFDA registration routes as of 2026, and how to buy from the Saudi suppliers listed below.

Pesticides are products that control pests, and insecticides are the subgroup used against insects; Saudi buyers also order acaricides for mites, fungicides and biological controls under the same heading. Within agri-inputs for Saudi farms and greenhouses they are the input with the strictest rules, because the Kingdom applies the GCC Pesticides Law to every product before it can be sold.
Demand comes from several distinct groups. Date palm growers in Al-Ahsa, Qassim and Madinah need treatments and traps for red palm weevil, first recorded in the Kingdom in 1987 in Qatif. Greenhouse vegetable producers around Riyadh, Al-Kharj and Tabuk fight whitefly, thrips and mites year round. Pivot farms in Al-Jouf, Hail and Wadi Al-Dawasir treat field crops, and municipal and private pest control operators buy public health insecticides for mosquitoes, flies and cockroaches.
| Product group | Common Saudi application | Main buying check |
|---|---|---|
| Insecticides for palms | Trunk injection and spraying of infested palms, treatment of removal sites | Registration for palm use, method of application, applicator safety |
| Greenhouse insecticides and acaricides | Whitefly, thrips, aphids and spider mites in tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers | Mode of action group, pre-harvest interval, compatibility with biological control |
| Field crop insecticides and fungicides | Cereals, potatoes, fodder and vegetables under centre pivots | Label crop and dose, application through boom or chemigation |
| Biological and pheromone products | Mass trapping of palm weevil, microbial insecticides in greenhouses | Lure strength and field life, cold chain for live organisms |
| Public health insecticides | Vector, fly and cockroach control in homes, food premises and cities | SFDA registration number, licensed operator use |
Neighbouring products are covered elsewhere: herbicides for cereals, orchards and non-crop land, fertilisers for pivot and drip farms that are often tank mixed with crop protection, and boom sprayers, mist blowers and dusters that apply them.
In Saudi Arabia the main threat to pesticide quality is heat between the port and the farm. Products landed at Jeddah Islamic Port or King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam may travel hundreds of kilometres by truck to Qassim, Al-Jouf or Jazan, and then sit in a farm store through summer.
As of 2026, Saudi Arabia applies the GCC Pesticides Law and its implementing regulation: no pesticide may be produced, imported, repackaged or distributed before it is registered with the competent authority. MEWA is the authority for agricultural pesticides, and SFDA registers public health pesticides through its Ghad system.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority or reference |
|---|---|---|
| Registration before production, import, repackaging or distribution | All pesticides | GCC Pesticides Law, Article 5 of the implementing regulation |
| Registration certificate valid five years, renewable | Registered pesticides | GCC implementing regulation, Article 12 |
| Approved label in Arabic or English | Every pack: actives, uses, safety, pre-harvest interval, dates, local registration number | GCC implementing regulation, Article 11 |
| Trading licence for every shop and store, valid three years | Pesticide sellers and warehouses | Competent authority under the GCC regulation |
| Registration of agricultural inputs and import permits | Agricultural pesticides, including organic and biological products | MEWA, General Directorate of Plant Resources |
| Registration of public health pesticides | Products for household, vector and public health use | SFDA, Ghad system |
Where a product is made only for export and is not registered in its country of origin, the regulation asks for evidence of registration in at least two countries of the European Union, Japan, the United States or Canada. Enforcement is real: in July 2019 MEWA reported fines against 19 agricultural companies and seizures of illicit, expired and unregistered pesticides, with penalties that can reach SAR 200,000, destruction of the goods at the violator's expense and closure of the business. The English text of the GCC law is a translation and the Arabic original prevails, so confirm current requirements with MEWA or SFDA before a first import.
Choose a supplier that holds the registration for each product you need, a licensed store near your farm and the technical staff to advise on rotation and residues. Saudi buyers normally deal with registration holders' distributors in Riyadh, Qassim, Jeddah and the Eastern Province rather than with overseas manufacturers.
Brands carried in this category include Agrostulln, a German producer of micronised wettable sulfur and colloidal liquid sulfur used against powdery mildew and mites, which date plantations and greenhouse farms in Qassim and Al-Ahsa buy through national agricultural distributors.
Prices follow the active ingredient, its patent status, the formulation and the pack size, plus freight and dangerous goods handling into Jeddah or Dammam. Lead time is set by registration more than by shipping: a product already registered and stocked by a Saudi distributor can be delivered within days, while a new product must pass the Pesticides Registration Committee first. Seasonal demand for palm treatments and greenhouse programmes also tightens stock, so contract the season's volumes early and take them in batches. To reach several registered suppliers at once, post your requirement with the crop, pest, area and delivery region.
