Oilfield chemicals in Saudi Arabia are the inhibitors, H2S scavengers, demulsifiers, biocides and mud additives injected on Aramco fields, gas plants and rigs. This page lists Saudi suppliers and covers each product family, how Aramco supplier registration and product trials work, how heat and sour gas change storage and dosing, the role of iktva and local blending, and what sets price and lead time.
Most chemicals, lubricants and industrial gases demand in Jeddah comes from the three MODON industrial cities in the south of the governorate. The First Industrial City opened in 1971 on about 12 million square meters, the Second in 2009 on about 8 million, and the Third, opened in 2012, is planned across a much larger area and is still being developed. Plastics, paint, resin and packaging plants cluster here, and each one consumes solvents, resins and polymers, industrial paints and coatings and industrial lubricants. A reported share of the Kingdom's plastics and petrochemical conversion capacity sits in the western region, though that figure comes from an exhibition notice, so treat it as indicative.
Salt air is the first driver. Steel in the port, in warehouses and on the corniche corrodes quickly, so buyers ask for anti corrosion coatings, marine coatings and epoxy coatings with documented film thickness. The second is the port and shipyard trade at Jeddah Islamic Port, which uses marine lubricants and gas cylinders and regulators for welding and repair. The third is water. Desalination plants south of the city, such as the Shuaibah complex about 120 km away, rely on water treatment chemicals and flocculants and coagulants.
Ask for a safety data sheet in Arabic and English with every drum, and check whether the product needs a licence for storage or transport before an order is placed. Hazardous goods warehouses need Civil Defense approval, and chemical plants answer to environmental regulators, so confirm the current requirement for your product. Lubricant buyers should ask for the approval list of the equipment maker, since viscosity grade matters in Jeddah's heat. Where possible, buy gases from a filler with a local cylinder test bay, because exchange cycles are faster than waiting for cylinders to ship from another region.
Large scale bulk petrochemical production is stronger in Jubail and Yanbu, so Jeddah buyers of base chemicals usually buy from distributors rather than producers. What Jeddah does well is formulation, blending, packaging and distribution to the western region. To compare quotes on one specification, use post a requirement.
Jeddah is the commercial centre of the western Kingdom, and its factories sit in three industrial cities south of the built-up area, all supervised by the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, known as MODON. Saudipedia dates the First Industrial City to 1971, with about twelve million square metres and 1,119 factories, east of Al-Rahmaniyah Market. The Second opened in 2009 west of the Coastal Road, about 30 km from the first. The Third, east of the Coastal Road, is listed with 714 factories and a much larger 80 million square metre footprint, of which 24 million is developed. In August 2024 Argaam reported more than SAR 521 million of new MODON projects there, among them a first-phase wastewater plant of 10,000 cubic metres a day in the Second City and 24 ready-made factories of 350 square metres each in the First.
Jeddah Islamic Port is the main gateway. Wikipedia describes 62 berths in service in 2023 and a share of roughly 65 percent of the Kingdom's seaborne imports, and the port is the western end of the planned Saudi Landbridge. In March 2025 DP World and Mawani inaugurated the expanded South Container Terminal, which lifts capacity from 1.8 to 4 million TEU, and a SAR 900 million, 415,000 square metre logistics park is being built beside it. The airport lies to the north, and trucks carry cargo inland to Mecca, Medina, Taif and Riyadh.
MODON leases plots and ready units. Mawani regulates the port. ZATCA runs customs, and opened an all-in-one customs hall at the port in January 2022. Jeddah Municipality issues trade and building permits, the General Directorate of Civil Defense approves fire and life safety, and the National Water Company runs water and sewage. Confirm current steps on each authority's own platform before contracting.
Construction and fit-out lead because of waterfront and city redevelopment. Food, plastics, packaging, paint and metal plants in the industrial cities buy machinery and spares, while port and logistics operators buy handling gear. Fuel is distributed from Aramco's North Jeddah bulk plant, but refining and heavy petrochemicals sit in other cities.
