Industrial lubricants in Saudi Arabia, in this category, are specialist oils such as slideway oils, food-grade H1 lubricants, chain and oven oils, white oils, circulating oils, open gear and wire rope compounds and quench oils. This page lists Saudi suppliers and covers what to specify, how heat and dust affect each product, the SASO lubricating oils regulation and food-grade checks as of 2026, and what sets price and delivery.
Demand in Mecca comes from running a city of pilgrims, not from processing raw materials. The biggest users are cleaning and sanitation contractors, hotels, laundries, water and wastewater operators, hospitals and construction sites. For process chemicals, solvents and large gas contracts, buyers look to the producers around Jeddah and the Eastern Province. In chemicals, lubricants and industrial gases, Mecca is mainly a delivery destination.
Water treatment chemicals and cleaning chemicals lead, because large hotels, cooling plants and sanitation crews run all year. Industrial lubricants and hydraulic oils serve elevators, escalators, generators and the vehicle and equipment fleets that move people and waste. On building sites, construction chemicals such as admixtures and waterproofing compounds go into foundations and façades. Oxygen and nitrogen cylinders supply hospitals, workshops and welding work.
Drums, pails and cylinders arrive by truck from Jeddah, where the port brings in most of the Kingdom's seaborne cargo. Hazardous goods have transport and storage rules, so ask the supplier for safety data sheets and confirm cylinder test dates on delivery. The municipality and Civil Defense set conditions for storage inside the city. Hospital oxygen systems are part of the medical gas rules covered under health regulation.
Agree a delivery window for the busy Hajj weeks well ahead, since consumption of cleaning and water-treatment products rises when pilgrim numbers do. Ask for a cylinder exchange schedule rather than ad hoc orders, and request product data in Arabic and English. If you need quotes from several distributors, post a requirement.
Consumption of sanitation and water-treatment products rises with occupancy, so Mecca distributors plan stock around Ramadan and Hajj. Buyers who order only at the last minute pay for urgency, while those with a standing schedule get priority. Coating and paint orders follow hotel refurbishment cycles, which are often timed to finish before the busy weeks begin.
Mecca is a destination first and a factory town second. Most of what the city consumes, from building materials to hospital supplies, is made elsewhere and brought in, and the industrial land that does exist sits on the outer edge. The main site is the Second Industrial City of Makkah in the Al-Akashiya district, which MODON, the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, began handing over in July 2021. Argaam reported an area of about 45.4 million square meters on the Fifth Ring Road where the Makkah, Taif and Jeddah roads meet, roughly 20 km from the Holy Mosque.
In November 2024 MODON signed a contract with a private developer for a ready-built industrial complex in Makkah, over 1.3 million square meters and SR1.75 billion, which Arab News described as MODON's first privately developed complex. Its stated aims were 5,000 jobs and up to 60 percent of output for export. Treat these as announced targets and ask for current occupancy before you plan around them.
There is no seaport in the city. Argaam put Jeddah Islamic Port about 70 km from the industrial city and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah about 88 km away, and the Haramain railway station about 25 km. Jeddah Islamic Port is described as the principal port serving the holy cities and handles about 65 percent of the Kingdom's seaborne imports, so most containers for Mecca clear at Jeddah and finish the journey by truck. For heavy industry, port services and large stockists, go to the Jeddah market first.
Holy Makkah Municipality, which sits under the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, handles permits, waste and food inspections, including the seasonal controls in the Hajj period. MODON deals with factory land. Medical devices are regulated by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, and fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense. Confirm each step on the authority's own platform.
Demand follows pilgrim numbers: hotels, catering, cleaning, cooling, hospital supplies and construction near the Holy Mosque. Heavy industry is thin here, and oil, gas and petrochemical buyers are in the Eastern Province. Use the sector pages below for the Mecca view of each trade.
