Lubricating greases are semi-solid lubricants consisting of base oil, thickener, and performance additives, used where liquid oil cannot be retained or where sealed-for-life lubrication is required. Evaluate suppliers on their product range, automated dispensing system support, and technical guidance for grease compatibility when switching products. Never mix greases with incompatible thickener types, as this can cause softening, hardening, or separation leading to bearing failure.

What type of grease is best for high-temperature bearing applications in the GCC?
For bearings operating above 120 degrees Celsius in GCC conditions, polyurea or perfluoropolyether (PFPE) greases offer the best thermal stability. Lithium complex greases are suitable up to approximately 150 degrees Celsius. Calcium sulphonate complex greases provide excellent high-temperature performance combined with superior water resistance and EP properties. Always select a grease with a dropping point at least 50 degrees Celsius above the maximum expected bearing temperature.
Can we switch grease brands without purging the bearing?
Switching grease brands requires verifying thickener compatibility. Greases with the same thickener type (e.g., lithium complex to lithium complex) from different manufacturers are generally compatible. However, mixing incompatible thickener types such as lithium complex with polyurea can cause catastrophic softening or hardening. When switching to an incompatible grease type, completely purge the old grease from the bearing and repack with the new product.
What is the shelf life of grease stored in GCC warehouse conditions?
Standard greases stored in sealed containers in a shaded, cool warehouse have a typical shelf life of 2-5 years depending on the thickener type and formulation. However, if warehouse temperatures exceed 40 degrees Celsius for extended periods, oil separation from the thickener can occur, reducing shelf life. Store grease containers horizontally or inverted to prevent oil separation from the surface. Synthetic and polyurea greases generally have better shelf stability than standard lithium greases.
