Forklift rental in Saudi Arabia is the hire of diesel, electric or LPG trucks for warehouses, port yards, factories and project stores, with or without an operator. This page covers how to match truck type, capacity and tyres to the job, how SASO lifting rules and heavy equipment licensing apply as of 2026, and what a hire order should state.
Industrial land in Mecca is concentrated at the Second Industrial City of Makkah in Al-Akashiya, where MODON began handing over a 45.4 million square meter site in July 2021. It is roughly 20 km from the Holy Mosque and about 25 km from the Haramain train station. In November 2024 Arab News reported a SR1.75 billion ready-built complex contract with a private developer on more than 1.3 million square meters, designed to include ready-made and prefabricated buildings. Occupancy figures change, so ask for current availability. For wider options see industrial real estate and rental.
Warehouses for rent serve distributors who supply hotels and catering, while workshop spaces suit maintenance firms. Industrial zone plots apply to larger plans. Contractors rent portacabins and cranes, generators and forklifts. Seasonal operators lease buses for workers and temporary storage.
Ask MODON about plot terms in the industrial city, and the municipality about permits for any other site. Confirm utility connections, road access to the Fifth Ring Road and distance to Jeddah Islamic Port, which Argaam put about 70 km from the industrial city. Fire and life safety approvals come from Civil Defense.
Seasonal demand lifts rental prices and shortens availability, so book equipment and storage early for peak periods. Check insurance and operator terms on rented plant. To compare several options, post a requirement.
Contractors and service companies in Mecca often need accommodation and staff transport as well as space. Buses, site offices and temporary structures are rented in volume for projects, and the rules for worker housing are set by the authorities, so confirm the current requirements before you sign any lease. A rental firm that supplies drivers, maintenance and replacements saves your site team time.
Mecca is a destination first and a factory town second. Most of what the city consumes, from building materials to hospital supplies, is made elsewhere and brought in, and the industrial land that does exist sits on the outer edge. The main site is the Second Industrial City of Makkah in the Al-Akashiya district, which MODON, the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, began handing over in July 2021. Argaam reported an area of about 45.4 million square meters on the Fifth Ring Road where the Makkah, Taif and Jeddah roads meet, roughly 20 km from the Holy Mosque.
In November 2024 MODON signed a contract with a private developer for a ready-built industrial complex in Makkah, over 1.3 million square meters and SR1.75 billion, which Arab News described as MODON's first privately developed complex. Its stated aims were 5,000 jobs and up to 60 percent of output for export. Treat these as announced targets and ask for current occupancy before you plan around them.
There is no seaport in the city. Argaam put Jeddah Islamic Port about 70 km from the industrial city and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah about 88 km away, and the Haramain railway station about 25 km. Jeddah Islamic Port is described as the principal port serving the holy cities and handles about 65 percent of the Kingdom's seaborne imports, so most containers for Mecca clear at Jeddah and finish the journey by truck. For heavy industry, port services and large stockists, go to the Jeddah market first.
Holy Makkah Municipality, which sits under the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, handles permits, waste and food inspections, including the seasonal controls in the Hajj period. MODON deals with factory land. Medical devices are regulated by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, and fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense. Confirm each step on the authority's own platform.
Demand follows pilgrim numbers: hotels, catering, cleaning, cooling, hospital supplies and construction near the Holy Mosque. Heavy industry is thin here, and oil, gas and petrochemical buyers are in the Eastern Province. Use the sector pages below for the Mecca view of each trade.
