Couplings and clutches in Saudi Arabia are the flexible, rigid and fluid couplings and the industrial clutches that transmit torque from motors and turbines to pumps, compressors, fans, crushers and conveyors. This page lists Saudi suppliers and explains coupling types, how desert heat and dust affect them, alignment practice, which API, ISO, SASO and explosion protection rules apply as of 2026, and what drives price and delivery.
Jeddah has more working machinery per square kilometer than most Saudi cities outside the eastern industrial belt. The three MODON industrial cities run food, plastics, paint and metal plants, the Islamic Port runs cranes, reach stackers and conveyors, and utilities to the south run pumps and turbines around the clock. In November 2024 MODON reported SAR 367 million of infrastructure work for the first phase of the Third Industrial City, plus a 10,000 cubic meter per day wastewater plant in the Second, so new plants keep arriving. Every one of them consumes spares. The industrial equipment and MRO market here is about fast replacement as much as new purchase.
Fluid handling leads: centrifugal pumps, ball valves, butterfly valves and mechanical seals, driven by water, wastewater and cooling circuits. Rotating equipment needs ball bearings, gears and gearboxes and V belts and timing belts. Compressed air users look at industrial air compressors and compressed air filters. Workshops stock hydraulic hoses and fittings, hand and power tools and industrial fasteners and hardware.
Start with a critical spares list for each line: the part, the lead time and the effect of a stop. Ask distributors to hold agreed stock on consignment rather than discounting a bulk order. Salt and humidity shorten life, so specify stainless or coated fasteners near the coast, sealed bearings and corrosion resistant valve trim. Check that pumps are selected at the actual duty point in summer heat, since cooling water temperature changes the curve. Insist on original manufacturer certificates for bearings and seals, because counterfeit parts circulate in every large MRO market.
Goods arrive through Jeddah Islamic Port, where the Mawani and DP World logistics park, a reported SAR 900 million project with groundbreaking in May 2024, adds covered storage and a large pallet capacity. Urgent items can come by air to King Abdulaziz International Airport. Shutdown planners should order long lead items such as large valves and gearboxes months ahead. To compare quotes on a single parts list, use post a requirement.
Jeddah is the commercial centre of the western Kingdom, and its factories sit in three industrial cities south of the built-up area, all supervised by the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, known as MODON. Saudipedia dates the First Industrial City to 1971, with about twelve million square metres and 1,119 factories, east of Al-Rahmaniyah Market. The Second opened in 2009 west of the Coastal Road, about 30 km from the first. The Third, east of the Coastal Road, is listed with 714 factories and a much larger 80 million square metre footprint, of which 24 million is developed. In August 2024 Argaam reported more than SAR 521 million of new MODON projects there, among them a first-phase wastewater plant of 10,000 cubic metres a day in the Second City and 24 ready-made factories of 350 square metres each in the First.
Jeddah Islamic Port is the main gateway. Wikipedia describes 62 berths in service in 2023 and a share of roughly 65 percent of the Kingdom's seaborne imports, and the port is the western end of the planned Saudi Landbridge. In March 2025 DP World and Mawani inaugurated the expanded South Container Terminal, which lifts capacity from 1.8 to 4 million TEU, and a SAR 900 million, 415,000 square metre logistics park is being built beside it. The airport lies to the north, and trucks carry cargo inland to Mecca, Medina, Taif and Riyadh.
MODON leases plots and ready units. Mawani regulates the port. ZATCA runs customs, and opened an all-in-one customs hall at the port in January 2022. Jeddah Municipality issues trade and building permits, the General Directorate of Civil Defense approves fire and life safety, and the National Water Company runs water and sewage. Confirm current steps on each authority's own platform before contracting.
Construction and fit-out lead because of waterfront and city redevelopment. Food, plastics, packaging, paint and metal plants in the industrial cities buy machinery and spares, while port and logistics operators buy handling gear. Fuel is distributed from Aramco's North Jeddah bulk plant, but refining and heavy petrochemicals sit in other cities.
