Cold storage for agriculture in Saudi Arabia is the refrigerated rooms, plant and controls that hold dates, potatoes, onions, vegetables and imported fruit after harvest, from Qassim and Al Ahsa date factories to Jeddah and Dammam importers. This page lists Saudi suppliers and covers room types, refrigeration sizing for inland summers, SFDA and refrigerant requirements, and what sets cost and delivery time.
Yanbu is an industrial and port city first, so the agriculture and agri-equipment sector here is a support market for farms in the wider Madinah region rather than a farming cluster inside the Royal Commission zone. Saudi Gazette reporting carried by Zawya puts the Madinah region third in the kingdom for dates, at about 344,000 tonnes a year, or roughly 18 percent of national output. Yanbu Al-Nakhal, the inland part of the governorate about 47 km from the town, is the nearest agricultural area, though this page does not claim figures for it. Larger date orchards and packing houses sit closer to Medina, around 160 km east.
Buyers who supply date and palm growers look at irrigation systems, drip irrigation, irrigation pumps and fertilizers. Pumps matter because water is drawn from wells and treated supplies in a hot desert climate, where Wikipedia records a July mean daily maximum of 40.5 C. Post-harvest items such as agricultural cold storage and sorting and grading machines follow the harvest. A second, quieter buyer group is landscaping contractors for the industrial city and housing districts, who need sprinklers, controllers and soil conditioners.
Imported equipment lands at the Yanbu ports, or at Jeddah, and moves by truck. Pesticides, seeds and fertilisers are controlled products, so confirm import and sale rules with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture before you stock them. Machinery needs SASO conformity, and customs clearance is handled by ZATCA at the port of entry.
Ask irrigation suppliers for emitter flow data at your water quality and for filter options, since salty groundwater clogs drippers. Request spares kits with every pump. If you are fitting out a farm and need quotes from several sellers, post a requirement with your acreage and water source.
Yanbu is three places in one. Yanbu Al-Bahr is the older seafront town where most residents live, Yanbu Al-Nakhal is a separate inland area about 47 km away, and Yanbu Al-Sina'iya in the south holds the industrial city. The industrial city is planned and run by the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, which was established on 21 September 1975 and answers to the Council of Ministers. Its mission is to plan and manage energy-intensive and petrochemical cities, and gas collected from oil operations is meant to feed their plants. In April 2026 Arab News, citing the commission's annual report, put total investment in the Jubail and Yanbu industrial cities above SR1.5 trillion by the end of 2025, and described Yanbu as a refining and downstream processing centre. Wikipedia lists three refineries, a plastics facility and several petrochemical plants in the city.
The expansion known as Yanbu-2 was launched in July 2005 on about 66 square kilometres, with a plan for 34 basic and secondary industries and 224 light industries. Those are 2005 plan figures. On 9 April 2025 Aramco and Sinopec signed a framework agreement to advance engineering studies for a petrochemical expansion at the Yasref refinery, with a 1.8 million tonne a year steam cracker and a 1.5 million tonne aromatics complex. Aramco described it as a study-phase project.
King Fahd Industrial Port is described as the largest port for loading crude oil and petrochemicals on the Red Sea, with terminals for general cargo and containers, bulk cargo and crude oil. The East-West crude pipeline from the Eastern Province ends here. In May 2026 Mawani, a shipping line and SABIC announced the Red Sea Express container service linking the port with Ain Sokhna in Egypt and Aqaba in Jordan, at up to 1,100 TEU. In December 2025 Mawani signed a SAR 29 million logistics agreement with a logistics company for a 120,500 square metre cargo and storage site at a Yanbu port. The airport has domestic flights to Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam. Medina lies roughly 160 km east by road, so inland deliveries often route through it.
Inside the industrial city, the Royal Commission handles land, utilities and investor services. Port matters go through Mawani and the port operator, customs through ZATCA, and building permits through the municipality. Fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense, and medical products need Saudi Food and Drug Authority authorisation. Confirm the current steps with each body before you commit to a delivery date.
Refining, petrochemicals and port operations buy valves, pumps, coatings, gases, instrumentation and safety gear. Contractors follow plant shutdowns, and about 332,000 residents (2022 census) support housing, clinics and food supply.
