Fire detectors and detection devices
Large Saudi developments, from Riyadh office towers to Eastern Province industrial facilities, are usually built with fire-alarm panels and detection devices sourced from different manufacturers that still need to commission as one certified loop. Apollo, a UK detection specialist, addressed that problem early by publishing the Discovery, XP95 and Soteria protocols that many panel brands now support directly. Its addressable smoke, heat and multi-sensor detectors, call points and sounders are found across a wide range of engineered fire systems and are stocked through Saudi fire and MEP distributors.

Apollo is a UK-based manufacturer of fire-detection devices with a distinct engineering approach: instead of locking its detectors to a single proprietary panel, the company publishes its Discovery, XP95 and Soteria loop protocols so that other panel manufacturers can build compatibility into their own control equipment. This is one reason Apollo detectors show up as a specified loop component across such a broad range of engineered fire-alarm systems worldwide, including projects across the Kingdom.
For consultants and contractors working on multi-vendor installations, that open approach to protocol compatibility simplifies specification: the detection devices, the panel and the cause-and-effect programming can be sourced independently while still being expected to operate together as a single certified system.
The core Apollo range covers the devices that make up a fire-detection loop:
As loop components, these devices are generally paired with a compatible control panel chosen by the project's fire-alarm designer; a distributor can confirm which panel platforms support a given Apollo protocol before order.
Apollo detection devices are specified across a wide span of Saudi construction activity: commercial towers and mixed-use developments in Riyadh and Jeddah, industrial and logistics facilities in the Eastern Province around Dammam and Jubail, and hospitality and institutional projects tied to the Kingdom's giga-project pipeline. On these sites, detectors are typically wired into loops that report to a Civil Defense-approved panel, with programming that coordinates smoke extraction, fire dampers and evacuation sounders.
Saudi Arabia's climate is a real design factor for detection equipment. Extended periods of extreme heat, seasonal dust storms and, along the coast, high humidity and salt exposure can all affect sensor response and enclosure longevity, which is why maintenance schedules for detectors in exposed plant rooms, car parks or semi-outdoor areas are often set more conservatively than in milder climates. Contractors comparing panel and detector options can browse the fire alarm systems category on ListGCC for related equipment stocked by Saudi suppliers.
Apollo products enter the Saudi market through authorised fire and MEP distributors who hold certified stock and can answer protocol-compatibility questions, and through general electrical traders whose stock and technical support are typically more limited. Because detection loops require a matching protocol variant, buyers generally confirm with the supplier whether Discovery, XP95 or Soteria devices are needed for the specified panel before placing an order, mismatched devices will not commission correctly on the loop.
Lead times depend on whether the requested devices are held in local warehouse stock in cities such as Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam, or need to be sourced against a specific order. Buyers should request EN54 certification paperwork and confirm the batch's compliance status against SASO and Saber import requirements referenced in the project specification.
Instead of approaching Saudi distributors individually, buyers on ListGCC can submit one request detailing the Apollo detector types, protocol variant and quantities required, and receive quotes back from several verified dealers for side-by-side comparison. Verification badges on supplier profiles let procurement teams see which listed dealers have been checked before a purchase order is placed.
Comparing multiple quotes also helps balance price against stock position and delivery timeline, which is often the deciding factor on construction programmes where a delayed detector shipment can push back final commissioning and Civil Defense handover.
A UL or Kitemark logo is not UAE approval. Here is how civil defence certificates, Dubai ESL rules and approved maintenance contractors fit together.
