Air preparation units are the filter, regulator and optional lubricator that condition compressed air before it reaches a machine. This page helps Saudi buyers choose the type, size it for dust, heat and coastal humidity, understand the SASO and SABER route, and compare authorised suppliers in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam.
Refineries and petrochemical plants never stop buying spare parts. Wikipedia lists three refineries, a plastics facility and several petrochemical plants in Yanbu, and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu has reported investment of over SR1.5 trillion across its two industrial cities by the end of 2025. For the industrial equipment and MRO sector, that sets Yanbu apart from a trading city: buyers want certified, traceable parts that match the plant's specifications, delivered within days of a failure. Planned work such as the Yasref petrochemical expansion, still in the study phase after an April 2025 agreement, would add new packages of pumps and valves.
Process plants run on industrial valves, control valves, centrifugal pumps and API process pumps. Rotating equipment needs bearings, seals and gaskets and couplings. Utilities use industrial air compressors and hydraulic hoses and fittings. Workshops buy hand tools, torque tools and bolts and nuts for shutdown campaigns.
Imported parts come through the Yanbu ports or Jeddah, and air freight lands at the local airport or Jeddah. Plants usually require suppliers to be on an approved vendor list, and parts for pressure or hazardous service need material certificates and traceability. Equipment needs SASO conformity where applicable. Confirm the specific documentation with the plant's procurement office before quoting.
Two clusters buy differently. Plant maintenance departments order planned parts months ahead, while contractors and port operators order urgently and pay for same-day availability.
Ask for a stocked-parts list and a lead time per item, and request mill test certificates with valves. Keep critical spares on site for shutdown windows, and agree return terms for parts ordered in advance. For long parts lists, post a requirement with tag numbers.
Yanbu is three places in one. Yanbu Al-Bahr is the older seafront town where most residents live, Yanbu Al-Nakhal is a separate inland area about 47 km away, and Yanbu Al-Sina'iya in the south holds the industrial city. The industrial city is planned and run by the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, which was established on 21 September 1975 and answers to the Council of Ministers. Its mission is to plan and manage energy-intensive and petrochemical cities, and gas collected from oil operations is meant to feed their plants. In April 2026 Arab News, citing the commission's annual report, put total investment in the Jubail and Yanbu industrial cities above SR1.5 trillion by the end of 2025, and described Yanbu as a refining and downstream processing centre. Wikipedia lists three refineries, a plastics facility and several petrochemical plants in the city.
The expansion known as Yanbu-2 was launched in July 2005 on about 66 square kilometres, with a plan for 34 basic and secondary industries and 224 light industries. Those are 2005 plan figures. On 9 April 2025 Aramco and Sinopec signed a framework agreement to advance engineering studies for a petrochemical expansion at the Yasref refinery, with a 1.8 million tonne a year steam cracker and a 1.5 million tonne aromatics complex. Aramco described it as a study-phase project.
King Fahd Industrial Port is described as the largest port for loading crude oil and petrochemicals on the Red Sea, with terminals for general cargo and containers, bulk cargo and crude oil. The East-West crude pipeline from the Eastern Province ends here. In May 2026 Mawani, a shipping line and SABIC announced the Red Sea Express container service linking the port with Ain Sokhna in Egypt and Aqaba in Jordan, at up to 1,100 TEU. In December 2025 Mawani signed a SAR 29 million logistics agreement with a logistics company for a 120,500 square metre cargo and storage site at a Yanbu port. The airport has domestic flights to Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam. Medina lies roughly 160 km east by road, so inland deliveries often route through it.
Inside the industrial city, the Royal Commission handles land, utilities and investor services. Port matters go through Mawani and the port operator, customs through ZATCA, and building permits through the municipality. Fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense, and medical products need Saudi Food and Drug Authority authorisation. Confirm the current steps with each body before you commit to a delivery date.
Refining, petrochemicals and port operations buy valves, pumps, coatings, gases, instrumentation and safety gear. Contractors follow plant shutdowns, and about 332,000 residents (2022 census) support housing, clinics and food supply.
