Acetylene in Saudi Arabia is bought as dissolved acetylene in refillable cylinders for cutting, brazing, gas welding and preheating on fabrication yards, plant shutdowns and construction projects. This page lists Saudi acetylene suppliers and covers how the cylinder works, safe storage and transport in the Kingdom's heat, the SASO and ISO rules that apply as of 2026, and what drives cost and lead time.
Yanbu runs on hydrocarbons. Wikipedia lists three refineries, a plastics facility and several petrochemical plants in the city, and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu was set up to build industries that use gas and oil as feedstock. For the chemicals, lubricants and industrial gases sector that means two kinds of buyer: the producers, who need process chemicals and catalysts, and the large maintenance base around them, who need oils, gases and coatings every week. Yasref, an Aramco and Sinopec joint venture, is studying a petrochemical expansion with a 1.8 million tonne a year steam cracker, according to an April 2025 Aramco announcement, and any such project would add commissioning demand for nitrogen and chemicals.
Plant operators buy nitrogen for purging and inerting, oxygen and argon for welding on shutdowns, and cylinders and regulators. Maintenance teams look at industrial lubricants, turbine oils and anti-corrosion coatings, because salt air from the Red Sea attacks steel quickly. Port and shipping users add marine lubricants and marine coatings. Water treatment chemicals serve the cooling circuits of the process plants.
Hazardous materials need safety data sheets and compliant storage, and civil defence inspects chemical warehouses. Inside the industrial city the Royal Commission sets environmental conditions for tenants. Gas cylinders must be tested and marked, and transport of dangerous goods follows national rules. Confirm current requirements with the Royal Commission and the General Directorate of Civil Defense before you open a store.
Ask whether a gas supplier delivers by cylinder, bundle or bulk tank, and who owns the tank. For coatings, request the system data sheet for a C5 marine atmosphere and the surface preparation standard. Use post a requirement to compare lubricant quotes against the equipment maker's approvals.
Yanbu is three places in one. Yanbu Al-Bahr is the older seafront town where most residents live, Yanbu Al-Nakhal is a separate inland area about 47 km away, and Yanbu Al-Sina'iya in the south holds the industrial city. The industrial city is planned and run by the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, which was established on 21 September 1975 and answers to the Council of Ministers. Its mission is to plan and manage energy-intensive and petrochemical cities, and gas collected from oil operations is meant to feed their plants. In April 2026 Arab News, citing the commission's annual report, put total investment in the Jubail and Yanbu industrial cities above SR1.5 trillion by the end of 2025, and described Yanbu as a refining and downstream processing centre. Wikipedia lists three refineries, a plastics facility and several petrochemical plants in the city.
The expansion known as Yanbu-2 was launched in July 2005 on about 66 square kilometres, with a plan for 34 basic and secondary industries and 224 light industries. Those are 2005 plan figures. On 9 April 2025 Aramco and Sinopec signed a framework agreement to advance engineering studies for a petrochemical expansion at the Yasref refinery, with a 1.8 million tonne a year steam cracker and a 1.5 million tonne aromatics complex. Aramco described it as a study-phase project.
King Fahd Industrial Port is described as the largest port for loading crude oil and petrochemicals on the Red Sea, with terminals for general cargo and containers, bulk cargo and crude oil. The East-West crude pipeline from the Eastern Province ends here. In May 2026 Mawani, a shipping line and SABIC announced the Red Sea Express container service linking the port with Ain Sokhna in Egypt and Aqaba in Jordan, at up to 1,100 TEU. In December 2025 Mawani signed a SAR 29 million logistics agreement with a logistics company for a 120,500 square metre cargo and storage site at a Yanbu port. The airport has domestic flights to Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam. Medina lies roughly 160 km east by road, so inland deliveries often route through it.
Inside the industrial city, the Royal Commission handles land, utilities and investor services. Port matters go through Mawani and the port operator, customs through ZATCA, and building permits through the municipality. Fire and life safety approvals come from the General Directorate of Civil Defense, and medical products need Saudi Food and Drug Authority authorisation. Confirm the current steps with each body before you commit to a delivery date.
Refining, petrochemicals and port operations buy valves, pumps, coatings, gases, instrumentation and safety gear. Contractors follow plant shutdowns, and about 332,000 residents (2022 census) support housing, clinics and food supply.
