What is the temperature range for PTFE components?
PTFE operates continuously from minus 200 to plus 260 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for cryogenic LNG applications through to high-temperature refinery service. Short-term excursions up to 300 degrees Celsius are tolerable, though mechanical properties degrade above the continuous rating.
How does PVDF differ from PTFE for piping applications?
PVDF is a melt-processable fluoropolymer that can be welded using conventional butt-fusion and socket-fusion techniques, making it cost-effective for long piping runs. PTFE cannot be melt-welded. PVDF offers good chemical resistance up to 150 degrees Celsius but is not suitable for the broadest range of chemicals that PTFE can handle.
