Packaging Printing brands in Saudi Arabia
What is packaging printing, and which formats do Saudi manufacturers order?
Packaging printing turns board, paper and film into branded packs ready for the filling line. In the Kingdom it is part of printing and paper supply in Saudi Arabia, and demand comes from dairy and juice producers, water bottlers, snack and date packers, detergent makers and the growing local pharmaceutical industry.
| Pack type | Process most Saudi converters use | Where it goes | Points to fix in the enquiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cartons for medicines, cosmetics and sweets | Sheetfed offset with finishing | Pharma plants, cosmetics brands, confectioners in Riyadh and Jeddah | Board type, die line, colour standard, Braille, batch and expiry print area |
| Roll labels | Narrow-web flexo or digital | Water, juice, laban and detergent bottles | Label stock, cold and wet adhesive, unwind direction, Arabic text check |
| Printed laminates and pouches | Gravure or wide-web flexo, then lamination and pouch making | Snacks, dates, coffee, frozen and dry foods | Laminate structure, barrier, seal settings, food-contact suitable inks and adhesives |
| Sleeves and wrap-around labels | Gravure or flexo on shrink or OPP film | Beverages and dairy in bottles | Shrink percentage, distortion print, bottle sample for trials |
| Printed corrugated cases | Flexo post-print or litho-lamination | Shipping cases, retail displays, date and produce boxes | Board grade for humidity, stacking load, print coverage |
Materials come from neighbouring categories: paper and boxboard in Saudi Arabia, packaging and printing inks and plastic films. Plain shipping cases are under corrugated cartons, and catalogues or leaflets under commercial printing.
Which rules apply to printed packaging in Saudi Arabia?
As of 2026, three sets of rules meet on a Saudi printed pack: Arabic labelling for food under SFDA, printery licensing by the Ministry of Media, and the brand owner's own food safety and barcode standards.
| Requirement | What it covers | Authority or source |
|---|---|---|
| SFDA.FD/GSO 9 labelling of prepackaged foods | Label text on food packs must be in Arabic; any other language sits alongside and matches it | SFDA |
| Printery licence under the Law of Printed Materials and Publication (2000) | Printeries and pre-printing services | Ministry of Media |
| Commercial registration | Every printing and converting business | Ministry of Commerce |
| BRCGS Packaging Materials, Issue 7 | Food and consumer packaging converters, where customers require it | BRCGS, through certification bodies |
| EuPIA statement of composition | Inks used on food packs | Ink supplier, following EuPIA guidance |
Arabic label content
SFDA states that under SFDA.FD/GSO 9 food labels must be in Arabic, and where another language is used it must be alongside the Arabic with identical information. English-only food labels therefore do not comply. Bilingual artwork adds proofing rounds, so build a text check by an Arabic reader into approval, and confirm the current regulation text with SFDA.
Printery licensing
Saudipedia summarises the Law of Printed Materials and Publication, issued in 2000, as requiring a Ministry of Media licence for printeries, with conditions on the licensee that can be waived by ministerial exemption. Ask converters for the licence alongside the CR.
Inks and hygiene
EuPIA publishes guidance on inks for food contact materials and on inks applied to the non-food-contact surface, plus a model statement of composition listing potential migrants. BRCGS published Packaging Materials Issue 7 in October 2024, with audits against it from 28 April 2025 according to LRQA. Saudi dairy and beverage brands commonly require both from their converters.
How do you control print quality on Saudi packaging?
Control Saudi packaging print with a colour standard, barcode verification and inline inspection, and test labels and films under the real conditions in the filling hall.
- Colour: ISO 12647-6 sets process control for flexographic printing of labels, boxes and flexible packages; ask the converter which standard it prints to and approve a press proof.
- Barcodes: GS1 advises grading with an ISO/IEC 15426 compliant verifier against the GS1 General Specifications tables; ask for reports on each new artwork.
- Inspection: 100% camera inspection catches missing Arabic text, wrong batch fields and colour drift before cases reach the line.
- Climate: dry inland Riyadh air builds static on films, while humid Jeddah and Dammam warehouses soften board; store and condition stock for the city.
- Cold filling: laban and juice bottles sweat, so label adhesives need trials on wet, chilled containers.
Who supplies packaging printing in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi packaging print is supplied by carton printers and label converters around Riyadh's industrial cities, flexible packaging plants in Jeddah and Dammam close to food factories, and regional groups importing into the Kingdom. Local conversion shortens lead times and can count in local content evaluations.
A converter's equipment tells you a lot. Brands on ListGCC used across the Saudi packaging print chain include Pillar Technologies corona and plasma treaters for film adhesion, BST eltromat web guiding and inline print inspection, Prati inspection slitter rewinders for labels, and API Foilmakers stamping foils and holographic films for premium and anti-counterfeit packs. For in-line coding or labelling at your plant, see labelling machines and the packaging machinery guide for GCC food plants; vet converters using the supplier sourcing guide.
What affects packaging printing cost and delivery in Saudi Arabia?
Cost follows substrate, tooling, quantity and finishing; delivery follows artwork approval, material availability in the Kingdom and seasonal capacity.
- Tooling: plates, cylinders and dies are fixed costs; digital printing avoids them for short runs.
- Materials: imported film and board carry freight and port time through Jeddah Islamic Port or King Abdulaziz Port.
- Bilingual artwork: Arabic and English approvals add rounds.
- Compliance: low-migration inks and full inspection cost more and reduce recall risk.
- Peaks: Ramadan, Hajj and Riyadh Season promotions book out presses.
To collect offers on one specification, post your packaging printing requirement with formats, quantities, city and artwork status.
