Greases Suppliers, Saudi Arabia
Greases in Saudi Arabia are the bearing, EP, high-temperature, food-grade and oilfield greases that refineries, petrochemical plants, mines, cement works, fleets and drilling crews buy from oil marketers and specialist makers. This page covers grease types and codes, how desert heat, sand and coastal humidity change the choice, which SASO and buyer rules apply as of 2026, and what sets price and delivery time.

Greases brands in Saudi Arabia
Which greases do Saudi plants and drilling crews buy?
Saudi buyers order greases by application: general bearing greases for motors and conveyors, EP and complex greases for heavy and hot plant, water-resistant greases for coastal and wet duty, food-grade greases for food plants, and thread compounds and anti-seize for oil and gas connections. Greases form part of lubricants and oils in Saudi Arabia. A grease is mostly base oil, typically 80 to 97% by volume according to Mobil, held in a thickener that releases it to the contact surfaces.
| Application | Common grease type | Spec points to state |
|---|---|---|
| Electric motors, pumps and fans in Jubail and Yanbu plants | Lithium, lithium complex or polyurea, NLGI 2 or 3 | Base oil viscosity, motor maker recommendation, speed factor |
| Crushers, kilns and conveyors at cement and mining sites | Lithium complex or clay greases with EP additives, heavy base oil | Load rating, upper temperature, sealing against dust |
| Heavy mobile plant and haul trucks | EP lithium complex, often with moly | NLGI grade for the central lubrication system, pumpability |
| Port cranes and coastal equipment in Dammam and Jeddah | Calcium sulphonate complex or water-resistant lithium complex | Water washout, rust protection |
| Food, dairy and beverage plants | Food-grade greases (NSF H1) | Registration of the exact product |
| Drill pipe, casing, tubing and flange bolts | Thread compounds and anti-seize | Compound type named in the drilling specification, metal content |
| Wire ropes on cranes, rigs and vessels | Penetrating and dressing compounds | Rope maker recommendation, salt and sand resistance |
Automatic lubricators and central systems are under lubrication systems in Saudi Arabia, and bearings themselves under ball bearings. For oil-bath equipment see gear oils for Saudi gearboxes or hydraulic oils; rust preventives sit under rust preventives and penetrants.
How should desert heat, sand and coastal humidity shape your grease choice?
Pick grease for the worst condition the bearing sees: summer heat in Riyadh and the interior, abrasive dust at mines and quarries, or humid salt air on the Gulf and Red Sea coasts. Each one shortens grease life in a different way, so a single plant-wide grease rarely fits every point.
Heat
Oxidation speeds up and the oil bleeds out faster as temperature rises. Read the operating range on the data sheet, or the upper temperature letter in the DIN 51502 code (K is +120°C, N +140°C, P +160°C), and leave margin. Do not use the dropping point as a working limit: Mobil's Mobilith SHC greases, for instance, show a dropping point of 265°C but are rated to 150°C.
Sand and dust
Fine dust mixed into grease becomes an abrasive paste. Good seals, clean fittings and enough fresh grease to purge the old charge matter as much as the product. Store cartridges and pails indoors and closed; dust gets into open kegs on site.
Humidity and salt
At Jubail, Ras Tanura, Dammam and Jeddah, water and chlorides reach bearings through breathing seals. Ask for water washout (ASTM D1264) and rust test results, and use water-resistant thickeners on exposed bearings.
Changing products
Thickeners do not always mix. Mobil's compatibility chart shows many combinations as borderline or incompatible, with hardening, softening or bleeding as the result. When standardising plant greases, test compatibility first and purge the old grease.
Which approvals and standards apply to greases in Saudi Arabia?
Lubricating oils are regulated in Saudi Arabia by a SASO technical regulation published on 13 October 2023, with certificates handled through SABER; whether a particular grease falls within it should be confirmed with the importer or a conformity body. Beyond that, greases are bought to equipment maker recommendations and operator specifications. We checked in October 2026.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority |
|---|---|---|
| Technical Regulation for Lubricating Oils (published 13 October 2023) | Regulated lubricants placed on the Saudi market; scope for greases to be confirmed | SASO, via SABER |
| NLGI grade, ASTM D217 | Consistency of every grease | NLGI scale, ASTM method |
| DIN 51825 and DIN 51502 code | Bearing greases and their classification | DIN |
| Operator specification and approved products | Greases and thread compounds for Aramco, SABIC and other owners | The owner's procurement and engineering |
| NSF H1 registration | Greases with possible food contact | NSF, required by the buyer |
The SASO and SABER guide covers product and shipment certificates for imports.
Who supplies greases in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi grease supply runs through international oil companies and their Saudi distributors, regional blenders, and agents for specialist grease and compound makers. Owners often name approved brands, so start from the plant's lubrication schedule or the operator's approved list.
Brands for greases here include Shell Gadus greases, Mobil Mobilith SHC synthetic greases, Texaco and Caltex greases from the Chevron group, Lubriplate industrial and food-grade greases, Bestolife and Jet-Lube thread compounds used on drill pipe and casing, and Nyrosten wire rope lubricants.
- Manufacturer or authorised distributor: needed for warranted equipment, operator-approved products and batch traceability.
- Stockist: fine for common NLGI 2 bearing greases and workshop use.
- Ask whether the grease is made in the Kingdom or imported, as that affects SABER paperwork and local content.
- Check pack options for remote sites: cartridges for crews, drums or bulk containers for central systems.
The sourcing guide explains how to confirm an agent's authorisation.
What sets grease prices and delivery times in Saudi Arabia?
The thickener system and base oil set the price: simple lithium greases are the cheapest, complex, sulphonate and polyurea greases cost more, and synthetic base oils more again. Food-grade registration, moly or other solids, and small packs push the price per kilogram higher.
Common bearing and EP greases are stocked in Riyadh, Dammam, Jubail and Jeddah and arrive within days. Synthetic, food-grade and specialty compounds are often imported, adding sea freight through King Abdulaziz Port or Jeddah Islamic Port and SABER time.
