Formwork Systems Suppliers, Saudi Arabia
Formwork systems in Saudi Arabia are the engineered wall, slab, climbing and aluminium forms and shoring used to cast concrete structures. This page lists Saudi formwork suppliers, compares the four system types, explains how summer heat changes pour planning, which Saudi Building Code parts and falsework standards apply, and what drives formwork cost and lead time.

What are formwork systems, and which types are used in Saudi Arabia?
Formwork systems are engineered moulds and support structures that shape and hold concrete until it gains strength. In Saudi Arabia they are used on high-rise and residential projects in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province, on industrial and infrastructure work, and in housing programmes with repeated layouts. ListGCC places them under construction equipment in Saudi Arabia.
The family has four leaf categories. Choosing between them depends on the structure, the number of repeats and the cycle time the programme needs.
| Formwork type | Where Saudi projects use it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Wall formwork | Retaining walls, cores, shear walls, columns, reservoirs and industrial tanks | Design concrete pressure, panel and tie system, surface finish, crane capacity for gang forms |
| Slab formwork | Floor slabs in towers, hotels, hospitals and car parks | Slab load, prop or tower capacity, drop heads for early striking, reshoring sequence |
| Climbing formwork | Cores of tall buildings, bridge piers, towers and silos | Climbing method, anchor capacity in young concrete, platform loads, wind limits |
| Aluminium formwork | Housing projects and villa compounds with repeated floor plans | Number of reuses, set coverage per floor, monolithic wall and slab casting, panel handling weight |
Formwork works with concrete pumps and vibrators, tower cranes for moving forms and scaffolding for access and edge protection. Site-built forms use formwork timber and plywood, and road and rail viaducts often need bridge formwork systems.
How does Saudi heat affect formwork and pouring?
High summer temperatures in Saudi Arabia shorten setting time and dry exposed concrete quickly, which changes pour planning, striking and curing. On tall structures in the interior, wind and dust add load and wear on climbing systems.
Pour planning
ACI 305R-20 identifies high air temperature, high concrete temperature, low humidity and wind as the conditions that harm fresh concrete, and says the effects are stronger on a windy, sunny day than on a calm, humid one. For formwork this means: confirm the delivery rate so walls are filled without cold joints, avoid long waits between lifts, and check that the form design pressure matches the planned pour rate and mix.
Working hours and curing
Saudi Arabia bans private sector outdoor work between noon and 3 pm from 15 June to 15 September (Arab News reported the 2025 dates; confirm the current year with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development). Many large pours move to night shifts. Curing must start as soon as forms are struck, and forms left in the sun should be shaded or cooled before concrete is placed where the specification allows it.
Dust and wear
Sand in hydraulic climbing units, screw jacks and prop threads causes wear and jamming. Ask for a cleaning and lubrication schedule and keep spare parts for hydraulic cylinders on site.
Which codes and standards apply to formwork in Saudi Arabia?
Formwork in Saudi Arabia is governed through the Saudi Building Code and the project specification, with temporary works design usually done to European or British standards. There is no SASO product certificate specific to formwork systems that we could find. Checked in October 2026; confirm requirements with the project's code consultant.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority or source |
|---|---|---|
| SBC 302 Construction and SBC 304 Concrete Structures | Construction practice and concrete work on building projects, including formwork and its removal as set in the code and specification | Saudi Building Code National Committee |
| Third-party inspection by bodies accepted for each Saudi Building Code part (list updated September 2026) | Code compliance inspection on building projects | SASO |
| EN 12812:2008 falsework performance requirements and design classes (formwork itself excluded) | Falsework carrying formwork and fresh concrete | CEN, published in the UK by BSI |
| BS 5975-1:2024 and BS 5975-2:2024 | Temporary works management, falsework design and implementation, where specified | BSI |
| Midday outdoor work ban, noon to 3 pm, 15 June to 15 September | Formwork crews and pours on private sector sites | Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development |
EN 12812 does not cover timber formwork beams or steel props, which have their own product standards (EN 13377 and EN 1065), so ask for component test evidence. Imported formwork equipment that includes regulated items may need SASO paperwork; our guide to SASO and SABER certificates explains the process.
Documents to ask for before the first pour
Whatever the system, a Saudi site team should hold these before concrete is placed: the formwork and shoring drawings with design loads and pour rates, calculations for props or towers and for any slab that carries reshoring, the erection and striking sequence, the anchor and tie details for climbing units, load test or conformity evidence for props and beams, and an inspection checklist signed before each pour. Keep the drawings on site so the consultant and the inspection body can check the installed formwork against them.
Choosing between system types
Aluminium panel systems pay back through repetition, so they suit housing schemes with many identical floors. Conventional steel and timber beam systems handle irregular layouts and changes more easily. Climbing formwork makes sense once a core is tall enough that crane time for re-setting forms becomes the bottleneck. Ask suppliers to price two options against your programme rather than one.
Who supplies formwork systems in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi formwork supply comes from international system makers with Saudi branches and yards, regional rental companies, local fabricators of steel and aluminium panels and props, and timber merchants. On large buildings the supplier normally provides the formwork design and site support as part of the package, so compare engineering capability as well as equipment.
The supplier listings on this page are the place to compare formwork makers and rental firms. Ask each supplier where its yard is (Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam affects delivery), whether the offer is rental or sale, who signs off the shoring design, and how returned equipment is inspected and charged.
Systems fabricated abroad usually arrive through King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam or Jeddah Islamic Port. For a supplier vetting checklist, see sourcing industrial suppliers in Saudi Arabia. To collect offers, post your requirement with drawings, quantities and the floor cycle you need.
What drives formwork cost and lead time in Saudi Arabia?
The cost of formwork in Saudi Arabia depends on how much equipment the cycle needs, how long it stays on site, how much engineering is included and how far the site is from the supplier's yard. We do not publish prices, as they depend on quantities, duration and market conditions.
- Quantity on site: faster cycles need more forms and props at the same time.
- Duration: rental cost accumulates when the structural programme slips.
- Engineering and supervision: design drawings, calculations and a site engineer for the first cycles.
- Custom systems: climbing formwork and aluminium sets are designed for the building and take longer to deliver.
- Transport: sites far from the main cities add trucking time for each delivery and return.
- Return condition: charges for cleaning, repairs and missing parts at the end of hire.
Freeze the structural drawings before ordering aluminium or climbing systems, and agree how design changes will be priced.
