Extrusion Equipment Suppliers, Saudi Arabia
Food extrusion equipment in Saudi Arabia means the cooking extruders, pellet lines, pasta presses and encrusting machines that Saudi snack, cereal, pet food and bakery plants use to shape and cook doughs and grits. This page sets out the machine types, what Saudi heat and dust do to a line, the SFDA, halal and SASO points that apply, and how to compare suppliers in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam.

What does food extrusion equipment do, and which machines do Saudi factories buy?
Food extrusion equipment forces a conditioned mix through a barrel with turning screws and out through a die, cooking and shaping it in one continuous step. In Saudi plants it is one branch of food processing equipment for Saudi factories, fed by grinding and milling machines that size corn grits and flour and by industrial mixers and blenders that make the dry premix.
Two operating principles matter when you compare bids. According to the Institute of Food Technologists, a single-screw extruder is kept full and its throughput follows screw speed, while a twin-screw extruder is starve-fed at a controlled rate and builds pressure as needed, so it copes with drier and stickier recipes. Expansion happens at the die as superheated water turns to steam, and the die plate inserts can be machined to different cross-sections so one plate makes several shapes.
| Machine | What Saudi plants make with it | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| Single-screw snack extruder | Corn curls, balls and rings | Output in kg per hour, L/D ratio, die and knife options, grit size range |
| Twin-screw cooking extruder | Ready-to-eat cereals, co-extruded filled pillows, pet food | Screw element library, specific mechanical energy range, preconditioner, liquid injection points |
| Pellet line | Half-product pellets sold to fryers or expanded with hot air | Forming die, cooling, multi-stage dryer, final pellet moisture |
| Pasta and cold forming press | Short and long pasta, non-expanded shapes | Vacuum mixer, barrel cooling, bronze or polymer dies, dryer sizing |
| Encrusting and forming machine | Kibbeh, maamoul, date-filled biscuits | Dual feeds for crust and filling, piece weight, pieces per hour |
Upstream and downstream, an extrusion hall also contains silos and dosing, the dryer, oil and seasoning drums, and the bagging line from food packaging equipment suppliers. Pellet producers often sell to snack plants that run frying lines. Animal feed pelleting and extruded fish feed belong under feed processing machines, and polymer extruders under plastic processing machinery.
How do Saudi heat and dust affect food extrusion equipment?
Saudi conditions hit an extrusion line in three places: feed moisture, cooling capacity and dust. Inland plants in Riyadh, Qassim and Sudair see very dry, dusty air with large swings between day and night; Jeddah and Dammam add coastal humidity.
Feed and product moisture
Stable extrusion depends on steady feed moisture, the IFT column notes, because moisture sets melt viscosity and therefore pressure and expansion. In dry inland air, stored grits lose moisture; in coastal plants they can gain it. Adjust water dosing to measured moisture rather than a fixed setting. After drying, expanded snacks and cereals take up water quickly in humid air, so coastal plants need conditioned coating and packing rooms.
Cooling and steam
Barrel cooling water heats up in summer, so chillers should be sized for the hottest month, not the design average. Preconditioners need steady, dry steam; ask what steam pressure and flow the bid assumes and check it against your boiler.
Fine dust in the plant
Outside dust loads filters on motors and control panels, and the plant's own flour and sugar dust is combustible. NFPA 660 (2025), which replaced NFPA 61 and NFPA 652 among others, ties collector choice and explosion protection to a dust hazard analysis. Specify sealed, cooled panels and dust collection systems sized for the feeders and seasoning drums.
Which approvals apply to food extrusion equipment in Saudi Arabia?
As of 2026, Saudi Arabia approves the food factory rather than the extruder: SFDA licenses the plant and its products, halal rules govern ingredients, and SASO rules apply to imported food-contact items listed in its technical regulations. Confirm the current position for your HS code on SABER before shipping.
| Requirement | Applies to | Authority |
|---|---|---|
| Food factory licence and inspection against GSO hygiene standards | The plant where the line operates | SFDA |
| SFDA.FD/GSO 2055-1 halal food; halal certificates from centres recognised by the Saudi Halal Center for products that need them | Ingredients such as gelatine, animal fats and meat derivatives, and products labelled halal | SFDA, Saudi Halal Center |
| Technical Regulation for Food Safety of Tools and Appliances Used in the Kitchen: certificate of conformity from a SASO notified body | Food-contact tools and equipment listed in its annex; check the SABER list for your item | SASO |
| EN 1672-2:2020 hygiene and cleanability | Machine design, specified in the purchase order | CEN |
| EHEDG EL Class II or ED certification | Dismantled wet-cleaned or dry-cleaned equipment, voluntary | EHEDG |
| NFPA 660 (2025) | Combustible dust handling around the line | NFPA, where the insurer or project specification requires it |
The SASO regulation lists named products by HS code, and its annex says the product list on the SABER platform is the most up to date version. Industrial extruders may not appear on it, but feeders, knives or small appliances shipped with the line can, so ask your clearing agent to check every line item.
Who supplies food extrusion equipment in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi buyers source extrusion lines from manufacturers' agents and regional offices, from integrators who package the extruder with dryers and coaters, and, for smaller forming machines, from bakery equipment distributors. For cooking extruders, deal with the maker or its appointed agent: screw profiles, dies and recipes are engineered as a set.
ANKO, carried on ListGCC, makes encrusting and forming machines that feed crust and filling separately, used for kibbeh, maamoul and other filled products familiar to Saudi bakeries and frozen food plants. For snack and cereal lines, book a trial on your own raw materials, take samples home for shelf life and sensory tests, and write the agreed output, bulk density and moisture into the acceptance protocol.
Ask each supplier what spares sit in Saudi Arabia (screw elements, die inserts, knives, heater bands), whether a technologist can reach Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam quickly, and who answers for the whole line. To compare offers, post your requirement for an extrusion line and let Saudi suppliers quote against the same scope.
What affects the price and lead time of food extrusion equipment in Saudi Arabia?
The extruder model, line capacity and the equipment around it drive cost; recipe trials, commissioning and spares drive the rest. A full twin-screw cereal line costs far more than a standalone snack extruder.
- Machine: screw type, diameter and length, drive power, die count.
- Line: preconditioner, dryer, coating, seasoning, conveying and controls from one or several makers.
- Running cost: wear rate of screws and dies on abrasive grits, spare sets in country.
- Hygiene build: stainless construction, open frames, tool-free covers.
- Services: trials, factory acceptance, site start-up and operator training.
Forming machines may come from stock; cooking extruders are built to order and shipped to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam or Jeddah Islamic Port, then installed and commissioned before SFDA licensing or a licence variation for the new products.
