For large-scale buffering at production sites and export terminals, lined rock caverns and salt-cavern underground storage offer the lowest cost per kilogram. Liquid hydrogen storage in vacuum-insulated cryogenic tanks serves applications where volumetric density is critical, including marine bunkering and long-distance transport.
